Sunday, October 30, 2089 VIPERS COOL OFF STALLIONS BATS, EVEN SERIES IN 4TH GAME OF PRO CUP SERIES Some good pitching finally made an appearance in this year's Pro Cup Series. Country Corbin and Michel Bourgeois combined to cool off the blazing bats of the South Fork Stallions 3-2 to even up the series at two games each. Howie Dassner continued to come through in the clutch with a game-winning sacrifice fly in the top of the 9th. Corbin has struggled in the playoffs so far, but not in this game. He tossed 5 and two-thirds innings and held South Fork to 4 hits and one run. The game was still tied when he departed the game. Michel Bourgeois (2-1/2.66 ERA/3 saves/9 games/20 IP) followed him and got the victory. He limited the Stallions to one run on 3 hits in his 3 and one-third frames. South Fork got a solid outing from its starter Owen Frank, who hurled 5 innings and allowed one run on 4 hits. The defeat went to Jimbo Tucker (0-1/2.81 ERA/3 saves/7 games/16 IP). Tucker permitted one run and 2 hits in 2 innings. Valmara scored first on Tavio Ortega's (.259 BA/4 HR/10 RBI) home run in the top of the 2nd frame. It was his 4th roundtripper in the postseason. South Fork's Gillis Featherstone (.340 BA/7 RBI) tied it up in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI base knock. Pinch hitter Vinny Silvera put the Vipers in front 2-1 in the 7th on an RBI single. Once again the Stallions knotted the score at 2-all in the 8th frame on Rupert Kruger's (.412 BA/1 HR/9 RBI) run-scoring hit. Valmara won it in the 9th on singles by Pavel Malashenko (.218 BA/5 RBI) and Vinny Silvera (.667 BA/2 RBI) and Howie Dassner (.322 BA/2 HR/17 RBI) sac fly. Each club was held to 7 hits apiece. Game five in South Fork will be pivotal. Manager Primo Sirak has his ace Arjan Huntsman (19-3/2.18) ready to go. He has impressed with a 4-1 mark and a strong 2.29 ERA in 5 postseason starts. South Fork's skipper Jay Murphy will go with Clinton Starr (13-12/3.03 ERA). His place in the playoff rotation was taken by Kenny Falconer (10-12/4.14 ERA), who has not fared well in the postseason. Starr has made 2 relief appearances in this year's playoffs. He has not surrendered a run in 4 innings. Last edited by Eugene Church; 07-03-2025 at 05:22 PM. |

Thursday, November 3, 2089 VALMARA ROOKIE SHORTSTOP DASSNER NAMED IPA POSTSEASON MVP; TEAMMATES BOURGEOIS AND HUNTSMEN FINISH 2ND AND 3RD IN POLL Valmara's 20-year-old rookie shortstop Howie Dassner had a year he will never forget. He was selected to the Ruthlandian Union All-Star team, his Vipers won their 5th Pro Cup and he also was honored as the IPA Pro Cup Postseason Most Valuable Player. Two of his teammates, reliever Michel Bourgeois and starter Arjan Huntsman, came in second and third in The Islandian Times Pro Cup MVP poll. Howie Dassner sparked Valmara to the overall IPA crown with a fine postseason performance. In 19 games he batted .304 with 21 hits in 69 plate appearances with 5 doubles, 3 homers, 21 RBIs and 10 runs scored. Pro Cup MVP runner-up Valmara closer Michel Bourgeois also played a vital role in the team's Pro Cup victory with 10 relief appearances. He posted a 2-1 mark with a 2.70 ERA and 3 saves in 23 IP. Winding up third in the Pro Cup MVP balloting was Viper starting pitcher Arjan Huntsman, who made 6 postseason starts with a 4-2 record and a 2.49 ERA. He hurled 43 innings. Huntsman had 2 complete games and one shutout. All of the three players are rookies. Valmara's future appears to be in good hands. |

Friday, November 4, 2089 LEAST LIKELY TO SUCCEED CAPTURES IPA PRO CUP CROWN Prior to the start of the 2089 IPA Pro Cup playoffs the oddsmakers, pundits, quipsters and scribes completely overlooked and forgot the Valmara Vipers. The baseball analysts and experts forecast the IPA Pro Cup champion would be the Forest City Firebirds. Guess who knocked off the Pro Cup favorite in the RU Title Round --- the #8-rated Valmara Vipers. #2-ranked Summerland did make it to the Union Title Round where they lost to #3 South Fork. The #4 Eastshore Cotton Kings never made it out of Round One. They fell to the Vipers in a hard-fought 7 games series. Only one time in the last decade has the media correctly forecast the IPA playoffs. Except for Valmara, they did a real good job in their postseason prognostications. EC will start working on the Award winners soon.
Doing Sunday programs on 8 radio stations is taking a lot of time. I'm also on Monday, Wednesday and Friday morings in one market. That is why it is so busy. I can't spend the time on the IPA as I did in the past. I really enjoyed the 2089 season. Hope you did, too. The views have gotten back to normal. Average per day is about 300 views. I think the key is to post daily. I think things perk up for the playoffs, too. Thanks to all of you for following the IPA for so long. Really appreciate all of you. |

Wednesday, January 4, 2090 GETTING TOUGH TO MAKE THE IPA HALL OF FAME -- NO ONE ELECTED THIS YEAR The ballots are counted and the results are in. Unfortunately, no player was elected to the Hall of Fame this year. The top vote getter was Far Mountain outfielder Ernie Friedricks, who received votes from 67.6% of eligible electors. Second best in the balloting was South Fork's standout shortstop Carroll Ezzell at 62.2%. Friedricks batted .311 in his 13 seasons. He scored over 1200 runs in his career and stole 786 bases. 6 times he topped the league in thefts. Fredericks is 4th overall in IPA history in stolen bases. He made 4 All-Star teams.
