2298 Week 13 - The Week in Review, Part 3
Buyers and Sellers
In our final All-Star Break push, we want to explore the possible buyers and sellers of the league for the final 43 games. We will take a look at what the buyers need and what they might have to offer. Also, we will look at what the sellers have to offer with the understanding that they would probably want prospects and young players with future potential. Buyers Abernathy (36-29, T-1st, IL) Needs: Catcher, hitters, run producers Possible trade bait: CF Callie Love (49 potential), SP David Coocoo (47 potential) Do not trade: SP Mike Rubric (59 P) Diamond City (33-32, 2nd, RL) Needs: C, LF, CF, Speed Possible trade bait: SP Burp Taylor (54 P) Easy Town (34-31, 3rd, BL) Needs: SP, RP, 2B, 3B Possible trade bait: 1B Lannie Tykeson (65 P), 3B Aaron Sinn (54 P) Do not trade: SP Wilson Beachball (54 P) Analysis: Tykeson looks like he may be a star, but Easy Town wants to win now. If they want to win now, Tykeson's rising star will gain them two of their needs positions. He may be the most intriguing trade bait. Fort Hagen (35-30, 3rd, IL) Needs: LF, RF, Speed Possible trade bait: CF John Merrow (58 P), LF Midnight Flowers (50 P) Goodneighbor (45-20, 1st, ML) Needs: C, 3B Possible trade bait: CL Isaiah Swindler (58 P) Analysis: They don't have much to offer so may not truly be a buyer. Not likely that the sellers want a young closer over other positions. Nordhagen Beach (40-25, 1st, BL) Needs: CL, RP, SS Possible trade bait: 3B Dirty Dog Sapienza (63 P) Do not trade: CL Cush Baker (67 P), SS Pointie Shroud (53 P) Analysis: Two positions of need may just require patience. Still, they could use better relief pitching now to help win more games. Oberland (50-15, 1st, RL) Needs: C, RP Possible trade bait: SP Tombstone Costner (44 P) Analysis: Not truly a buyer unless they give up a player to another buyer. Quincy (35-30, 2nd, ML) Needs: 2B, CF, RP Possible trade bait: 3B Brad Gossiper (46 P), SP Colt Finley (45 P), SP Rickey Schoolmaster (45 P) Analysis: The Gunners have some good trade potential and definitely look to be active. Starlight (36-29, T-1st, IL) Needs: SP, 2B, SS Possible trade bait: CF Geminy Grasshopper (48 P), 1B Bobb County (46 P), C Deacon Gookin (46 P), SP Trombone Jones (44 P) Do not trade: SS Nick Maris (56 P), SP Chad Sweet (46 P) Analysis: Starlight looks to be in good shape, but their two top starters are not producing. It looks like their future team is stacked, so it might be better to hold on to what they have and see many more successful future seasons. University Point (33-32, 4th, ML) Needs: 1B, LF, 3B Possible trade bait: 3B Matt Dupermart (53 P), CF Kelvin Blueprint (51 P), 3B Blue Beak (50 P), SP Tup Mallory (50 P), 2B Ryan Rolled (47 P), 2B Luke Peerless (45 P) Analysis: The Deathclaws have a lot of raw potential in Boston Common. If they want to compete for a wildcard spot now, they could afford to give up one or two prospects to push them to 2nd. There is little chance they could make enough moves to challenge Goodneighbor or Oberland for the SCA crown. Warwick (34-31, 3rd, ML) Needs: SS, CF, C Possible trade bait: RF Kern Rifleman (51 P), SP Brian Bridges (49 P), 2B Ryan Pondrose (48 P), SS Arthur Dimmesdale (46 P), C Nickles Czerniewski (45 P), SP Whip Lashley (45 P) Do not trade: SP Bubba Edwards (45 P), LF Bobby Thesea (42 P) Analysis: Like league mates, UP, the Mirelurks have the potential to buy several pieces but also have some prospects close to being ready to call up. Sellers Atom (27-38, 6th, ML) Possible trade bait: SP Matt "Ace in the Hole" Hope, CF Ed Tarberry, RP Daddy-o Sixx, RP Chris Leggman, RP Jason Jumping County Crossing (28-37, 6th, BL) Possible trade bait: CL William Whitehurst, RP Chopsticks McWilliams, LF Machete Thompson Jamaica Plain (30-35, 5th, ML) Possible trade bait: RP Mike Grille, LF Bryan Benton Roxbury (17-48, 6th, RL) Possible trade bait: CL Tom Mannequin, 3B Grognak Inman, RP Kyle Grogg, RP James Hickory, SP Scaredy Cat Talbott, RP Odysseus Blades, LF Rocky Gourd, SP Nick Mutfruit Analysis: Blow it up! The worst team in the CBO has a lot of guys that could help another team while they should work on building the best farm in baseball. That's not currently the case as they only have four future-pro rated players, one of those a closer. Salem (29-36, 5th, BL) Possible trade bait: C Mike Laughingman, SP Terrence Artman, RP Josh Hugs, RF Scott Bregman Sunshine Tidings (24-41, 6th, IL) Possible trade bait: CF Frank Corsica, LF Amari Nukes, 3B Ryan Bobb, RP Vince Moon, RP Accident John, CL Handsome Frank, RP Jumbo Cleveland Analysis: They can really improve the farm. Vault 81 (26-39, 5th, RL) Possible trade bait: 1B Erns Gold, RP Danny Rocketman, CL Radscorpion Johnson, RP Alex Godcomplex, SP Curt Redcoats, SP Josh Mustang, RP Front Porch Potter, RP Nate Truckman, C Ronald Raygun, LF Sam Farland Analysis: Gold may be a controversial trade since he and Quickwalker seem to be the heart of the team. However, they can sell Gold a lot higher now than they will get for him later. The pitchers are mostly too old and not productive enough, so who knows what the Dwellers can get for them? This team's front office exudes no confidence they can fix this roster anytime soon.

July 2298 - News and Notes - July 8
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 8 July 2298 - Sphinx Stumped by Riddle Starlight Lady Killers Justin Sphinx was permanently kicked out of the Puzzlers Club at Hubris Comics West in Fort Hagen after he was not happy with being "picked on" by the members there. Curious about what members of the Puzzlers Club did, Sphinx attended a meeting last night while the Lady Killers prepare for their important weekend series at third-place Fort Hagen. When Sphinx joined, the members waited for hi answer asked by the club president and assistant manager of Hubris Comics West, Emeril Nigma. According to Nigma, Sphinx became distraught when he could not answer the riddle and kept yelling out, "Why are you picking on me?" as he overturned game tables and magazine racks. "Very bizarre behavior," Nigma said. "He said he was named Sphinx, so I thought he would appreciate my question. "What was my question? What goes on four feet in the morning, two feet at noon, and three feet in the evening? I thought he would appreciate that one. Boy, oh boy, was I wrong!" There is no discipline expected, but Sphinx is not welcome to any club events again. He is also expected to pay for damages to equipment and stock. 8 July 2298 - FHE Yao Guai Ship Moss to Abernathy Done deal! The FHE Yao Guai have agreed to send 33-year-old RHP Hercules Moss to the Abernathy Adamantium for 24-year-old 3B Jerry Leftnut and 20-year-old C Poppt Person. The trade, rumored for days, was completed in the wee hours this morning. Moss has taken the mound for 26 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 0-3 record with a 7.80 ERA. The reliever has limited opposing batters to a .310 batting average. On the year Leftnut has hit .313 with no home runs, 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs. 8 July 2298 - Penaltybox Whitewashes Radstags Joe Penaltybox came out firing strikes and when the game ended, the Abernathy Adamantium hurler had struck out 8, leading Abernathy past the Concord Radstags, 9-0. Penaltybox allowed just 2 hits in the ballgame. "I'm glad that one is in the rearview mirror," said Concord manager Mark Gourdroot. This year Penaltybox has recorded a 8-5 mark. In 17 starts he has fanned 87 batters in 114.1 innings with a 4.33 ERA. 8 July 2298 - Udder Goes Distance in 6-1 Win Matt Udder pitched a gem to lead Oberland to victory over the Vault 81 Dwellers, 6-1. Oberland leads the South Charles Association Railroad League by 17½ games. Udder allowed 1 run on 2 hits over 9 innings for the T-51s. He walked 1 and struck out 6. "We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Udder. Jeremy Bugs was the best hitter for the T-51s. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI. 8 July 2298 - Hancocks Stomp Cats, 16-3 The Goodneighbor Hancocks powered past the Atom Cats, 16-3, at Coolest Field in Town. Zachary Utsinger was 4 for 5 with a triple, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3, to lead the charge. Oscar Chekhemani got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. The Hancocks have now won 6 straight. Early in the game, Utsinger had a 2-run double for Goodneighbor. It was his 21st double of the season and put the Hancocks on top, 2-0. "I like our mindset right now," said Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate. 8 July 2298 - Dimes Now 8-7 After Subduing Lady Killers Starting pitcher Joey Dimes took care of business, helping the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud stifle the Starlight Lady Killers, 3-2. With the victory, the Silver Shroud upped their record to 36-30. Dimes, the winner, is now 8-7 after putting the clamps on the Starlight offense. In 8 innings of work, he gave up 1 run on 3 hits, while collecting 6 Ks. "We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Dimes. Micah Morals led the Shroud offense. He was 2 for 3 with a double, a run, and an RBI. 8 July 2298 - Streaking Ghouls Win Another One, 5-4 The The Slog Ghouls turned back the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 5-4, at Tarberry Field Forever. Boots Yellowhair, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The triumph puts The Slog at 37-29 for the season after winning their 6th straight. Chipping in for The Slog was pitcher David Kiwi. He stroked a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, Kiwi threw 7 innings allowing 4 runs. "I'm not out there for personal accomplishments," Kiwi told a The Slog Citizen reporter after the game. "I'm out there to help the team win, and that's what we did today." 8 July 2298 - Extra-Inning Walk-Off Win for Mirelurks Put Them in 2nd Place Tie The Warwick Mirelurks did just enough to secure a victory over the Quincy Gunners, 5-4, at The Homestead. Nobody did more than first baseman Straight QuaLiTy. Pem Pollack earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record is now 6-2. Quincy's current losing streak has reached 4 games. The Mirelurks procured the win, in large part because of shortstop Tumble Lastman. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single. "It's great to see the crowd jacked up," QuaLiTy said.

July 2298 - News and Notes - July 9
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 9 July 2298 - Vault 81 Trades with Fort Hagen: Two for Two In a hastily called press conference, Vault 81 announced today a trade with Fort Hagen that will send 30-year-old RHP Radscorpion Johnson and 18-year-old minor league RHP Copper Geffre to the Silver Shroud in exchange for 20-year-old minor league C Tiger King and 21-year-old RHP Tom Sweeney. All players are expected to be in their respective new cities in time for today's games. To date this season, Johnson has fashioned a 2.51 ERA and rung up 9 saves for his club. He has 31 strikeouts and 8 walks. Opponents have hit for a combined .178 average against him and Johnson has a 4-2 won-lost mark. Sweeney has taken the mound for 10 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 0-0 record with a 5.06 ERA. The Vault 81 reliever has limited opposing batters to a .302 batting average. 9 July 2298 - Radstags Lambaste Adamantium, 12-1 Good production from right fielder David Stahl helped the Concord Radstags topple the Abernathy Adamantium, 12-1. Stahl was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Radstags. Their 32-35 record puts the Radstags 4th in the North Charles Association Institute League. Ricky Ticky Laughy, the top prospect , had a direct impact on the outcome. Laughy contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Concord up, 2-0. "In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Abernathy manager Chase Stingwing. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time." 9 July 2298 - Dominant Performance by Malone in University Point Win The University Point Deathclaws went home winners at Red Rockets Stadium, thanks in large part to starter Quentin Malone. Malone stifled the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, enabling University Point to grab the 2-1 win. Marc Pondsip converted his 14th save in 16 tries. With the win, University Point pushed its record to 35-32. Malone ran roughshod over the Jamaica Plain lineup. The right-hander allowed just 4 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 9. With the victory, he goes to 8-9 on the season. Malone told a University Point Daily News reporter that he was "gratified" with the win. 9 July 2298 - Iddings, Hancocks Finish Off Cats, 7-1 Goodneighbor picked up a win at Coolest Field in Town, bumping off the Atom Cats, 7-1. Pitcher Bruce Iddings was a major reason the Hancocks emerged victorious. The first-place Hancocks have won 7 straight. Iddings, now 12-2, scattered 7 hits over 9 innings for the Hancocks. "If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate. 9 July 2298 - Lady Killers Deal Silver Shroud 6-5 Defeat Fort Hagen first baseman Jim Tiller had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-5, to Starlight at Hubris Comics Park. Tiller went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Larry Undertaker notched his 21st save in 24 chances. The win puts Starlight at 37-30 this season. Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Hubris McBride? The Starlight third baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Lady Killers on top, 6-0. For the game, McBride had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats. "You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Starlight manager Eric Bendure. 9 July 2298 - Party Boys Tag Ghouls with 6-4 Loss Nordhagen Beach pinch hitter Matilde Moody had a 3-RBI performance, which helped his team down the The Slog Ghouls, 6-4. The triumph puts Nordhagen Beach at 41-26 for the season. Moody had a timely hit for Nordhagen Beach in the top of the seventh. With The Slog trailing 4-2, he turned a full count sinker into a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season, making it 5-4, Nordhagen Beach. "We take it day by day here," said Moody, "and today was a good one for us."

July 2298 - News and Notes - July 10
I mentioned trades after the All-Star Break, and they are flowing in. One random trade today and two AI-generated!
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 10 July 2298 - County Crossing Trades Grognak for Abernathy's Woolf It is being reported in Abernathy that the Adamantium and the County Crossing Bloodbugs have agreed on a trade. According to anonymous sources 19-year-old minor league SS Tattoo Woolf and 18-year-old C Mitch Hunt will be dealt to the Bloodbugs in return for 32-year-old RHP Bad Company Grognak. This season Grognak has compiled a 3-7 mark with a 6.45 ERA in 17 starts. Last season, he led the Brotherhood League in wins with 10, while leading the BL in losses two seasons ago with 11. He is expected to be the second third pitcher in the Abernathy rotation with current fourth starter Kyle Clevinger (6-10, 6.75) either moving to the bullpen or being sent to Bunker Hill. 10 July 2298 - Egret Ninjas Ship Juras to Goodneighbor Everybody is overjoyed with a trade consummated today by the Egret Ninjas and the Goodneighbor Hancocks. In the deal Egret got 20-year-old minor league 3B Paul Middle, 20-year-old minor league RHP Edward Waddle and 20-year-old minor league SS Fulton House from Goodneighbor and dealt 30-year-old 3B Jason Juras and 19-year-old minor league C Brent Flannel to the Hancocks. The general managers that made the swap are happy and the players are happy, too. One of the GMs commented, "This was a good swap for all concerned." This year Juras is hitting .277, produced 36 RBIs and 13 home runs, scored 40 times and gotten on base at a .360 rate. Currently on a six-game losing streak, the Ninjas have probably become sellers as the trade deadline nears this month. On the other hand, Goodneighbor has a veteran to play third base in its championship push. 10 July 2298 - Easy Town Trades Prospects to Atom for Sixx, Lopez It is being reported in Atom that the Cats and the Easy Town Assaultrons have agreed on a trade. According to anonymous sources 29-year-old RHP Daddy-O Sixx, 20-year-old SS Luis Lopez and a 3rd round draft pick will be dealt to the Assaultrons in return for 20-year-old minor league 3B Aaron Sinn, 20-year-old minor league LF Jeff "Baywatch" Fischler and 19-year-old minor league 1B Justin Vertz. In 27 relief appearances, Sixx is 1-1 with one save and a 5.02 ERA in 57.1 innings pitched. Lopez on the season is batting .220 with 3 home runs. His totals include 29 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has played in 67 games. 10 July 2298 - Duck Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle Good Don Duck truly did it all at Coolest Field in Town today. The Goodneighbor Hancocks right fielder hit for the cycle -- collecting 1 single, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run -- as he paced his club to victory, 17-1 over the Atom Cats. "You know that sweet sound you hear when you hit the ball just right? I heard that every time today," Duck said later. "It was a heck of a feeling." It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Atom pitching for 5 hits in 6 at-bats and his name will now go into the record books. Duck also racked up 3 RBI and 4 runs scored in the game. Good Don Duck hit a solo-shot off Jesse Emacipated in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, grounded out in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th. It is just the third time a player has hit for the cycle in CBO history and the second time this season. Duck is batting .376 with 9 home runs and 45 RBIs this season. 10 July 2298 - Hit Parade: Samuels Pops 5 Hits No matter what the County Crossing Bloodbugs threw him today, Sean Samuels hit it. The 20-year-old Easy Town Assaultrons center fielder racked up 5 hits in 5 at-bats today at Beantown Brewery Stadium and led the Assaultrons to a 13-7 victory. Sean Samuels singled in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th. On the year Samuels is hitting .369 with 100 hits, 8 home runs, 45 RBIs, .444 OBP and has scored 58 runs. Despite Samuels' day, teammate Matt Stoops was named the game MVP. The Assaultrons shortstop went 4 for 5 with two doubles, walked once, scored twice, and drove in four. 10 July 2298 - Driftwood Excels, But Mirelurks Win Warwick and Quincy duked it out and the Mirelurks came out victorious. The Quincy Gunners got a superb performance from right fielder David Driftwood, but the Warwick Mirelurks still won the game, 7-5. Driftwood went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Bobby Van Marter got the win, improving to 5-5. He worked 7.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Melon Sanderson hit a 2-run double off Manny McDuff in the bottom of the fourth, which put the Mirelurks in front, 2-1. In addition to the double, Sanderson had 1 single and 2 walks, while going 2 for 3. "We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Sanderson said. The victory gives Warwick a record of 37-31, a game up on University Point for second place in the Minutemen League. 10 July 2298 - Silver Shroud Down Lady Killers, 10-5, Tied for 1st In the 10-5 Fort Hagen win over Starlight, the impact of Jim Tiller was substantial. Tiller, who is tied for 4th in the NCA in doubles with 28, was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI. Derek Green was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 5 hits, with 1 walk and 12 strikeouts. The win elevated the Silver Shroud to 37-31, now in a three-way tie with the Lady Killers and Abernathy for first place in the Institute League. With no one out in the bottom of the fourth, Sam Noob barreled up a fastball from Jonathan Newman. The result was a solo home run, putting the Silver Shroud in front, 2-0. "I guess we'll all be a happy family for at least one day," said Tiller. 10 July 2298 - Party Boys Drop Ghouls, 7-2, Win Crucial Series Nordhagen Beach second baseman Brian Masterson contributed to his team's 7-2 win over the The Slog Ghouls. Masterson, who is tied for 6th in the NCA with a .417 on-base percentage, went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Party Boys. Nordhagen Beach goes to 42-26. The win puts them 5 games up in their division over The Slog. It could have been a different outcome for Nordhagen Beach, had it not been for Dustin Mart, the 26-year old first baseman. Mart contributed a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put Nordhagen Beach up, 4-2. "We cashed in when we had the chance," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson.

July 2298 - News and Notes - July 11
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 11 July 2298 - Tiller Chosen #1 Player in NCA Jim Tiller has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 20-year-old first baseman of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud had a hot bat in the North Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors. Tiller batted .533 with 8 hits in 15 at-bats, 1 home run and 7 RBIs. This season Tiller is batting .403 with 112 hits, 9 home runs, 51 RBIs, .427 OBP and has scored 46 runs. 11 July 2298 - SCA Player of the Week Goes to Duck of Goodneighbor It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the South Charles Association, but last week Good Don Duck of the Goodneighbor Hancocks reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Duck rocked opposing pitching for a .588 average (10-for-17), 3 home runs and 6 RBIs to come away with the award. This year Duck has hit at a .376 pace and produced 45 RBIs, 9 home runs and scored 68 runs. 11 July 2298 - BMU: CA's Star Player Named So far in his young career, Bubbles Fleeker has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Commonwealth Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 21-year-old Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks first baseman hit at a torrid .571 clip as he collected 8 hits in 14 at-bats, 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and 5 runs scored. 11 July 2298 - BMU: Siltbean Wins MA Player of the Week Prize At the age of 28, Jeff Siltbean might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Fiddler's Green left fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .556 batting average. For his efforts Siltbean collected the Massachusetts Association Player of the Week Award. He racked up 5 hits in 9 at-bats, 1 home run and 3 RBIs last week in 3 games. Siltbean is hitting .331 this season with 6 home runs, 36 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 60 hits in 181 at-bats. 11 July 2298 - BMU: BNN Stats: Batting Leaders So, who leads the Boston Minor Union in home runs? Bobby Thesea, CVA, 16 Jim Uglyhair, NAT, 15 Oren Gep, NAT, 14 Paul Middle, ETM, 12 Jonathan Angelou, GRNTP, 11

2298 Week 14 - The Week in Review
Analysis
There was some movement this week, but very little has changed overall in a three-game week due to the All-Star Week festivities. Goodneighbor rises to #1 for the second time this season. Last time, they only held the top spot for a week before Oberland took its rightful place as the best team in the CBO. The Hancocks' rise is due in large part on what they did before this week. Riding an eight-game winning streak, Goodneighbor has shown that their 2297 team that finished the regular season as the #2 overall team was no fluke. Unlike last season, Goodneighbor should be able to advance in the playoffs against one of the two wildcard teams. That could spell trouble for the T-51s in the postseason. Nordhagen Beach was able to put an extra game of distance between The Slog and themselves this weekend thanks to taking two of three at The Slog. While the bullpen has been in the middle of the pack in effectiveness this season, the starters are one of, if not, the best units in the CBO. Even when they don't get the run support they need, that 3.75 ERA is outstanding. We will feature the Institute League at the bottom of this article. But first, the current Power Rankings. Power Rankings Weekly Team Power Rankings: Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Goodneighbor Hancocks (143.1, +1) 2) Oberland T-51s (140.6, -1) 3) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (119.2, o) 4) Diamond City Swatters (107.3, ++3) 5) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (102.9, o) 6) Warwick Mirelurks (102.9, ++3) 7) The Slog Ghouls (97.9, --3) 8) Starlight Lady Killers (96.9, -2) 9) University Point Deathclaws (96.3, ++9) 10) Easy Town Assaultrons (95.3, +2) 11) Abernathy Adamantium (93.9, --3) 12) Concord Radstags (93.4, -1) 13) Finch Farm Four Leafs (86.4, +1) 14) FHE Yao Guai (85.7, -1) 15) Quincy Gunners (84.6, --5) 16) Salem Witch Hats (78.4, +1) 17) Lexington Synths (76.1, ++4) 18) County Crossing Bloodbugs (74.8, +2) 19) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (72.4, --3) 20) Atom Cats (70.5, --5) 21) Vault 81 Dwellers (68.5, +1) 22) Egret Ninjas (68.4, --3) 23) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (64.8, o) 24) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (40.6, o) IL: A Three-Way Radrat Race Abernathy, Fort Hagen, and Starlight are all sitting atop the IL at 37-31 with just 40 games left on the slate. If this keeps up, we will have one of the more thrilling league finishes that we have had in our three years of the CBO. Only two will go to the playoffs. All three teams have had their ups and downs on the season with the Silver Shroud currently the hottest of the three: 7-3 in their last 10, weekend series win over the Lady Killers. The Adamantium are currently the coldest: 4-6 in their last 10, series loss at home against 4th-place Concord. Some of Abernathy's recent troubles come on offense. CF Flatface Parker, whom the Adamantium obtained from Quincy, has hit just .184 for his new team in 26 games after hitting .307 in 42 games with the Gunners. While the middle of the lineup has been doing its job, the bottom of the lineup is falling flat. In addition to Parker, Joel Mutfruit and Canbed McMurty are failing to get hits at a pace needed to pull up the 7th-best scoring offense in the North Charles Association. The Shroud can probably feel Abernathy's pain when it comes to offense. The 11th-best scoring offense has the least chance to separate itself from the pack unless it gets lights out pitching each and every game. The strange thing is that Fort Hagen is 3rd in the NCA in batting average and fourth in on-base percentage. They just do not get the timely hits they need at a consistent level to ever pull away from opponents. One aspect of that is that they are the second least powerful team in all of the CBO (FHE) with a NCA-low 46 home runs. For perspective, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys' two best home run hitters, Dustin Mart and Michael Fogcrawler have hit a combined 45! Shroud cleanup hitter Sam Noob hits well for average (.344), but he has only 10 home runs, making him dead last in home runs for a team leader. For further perspective, most teams have at least two with 10 or more home runs. The only other team without that number is the Yao Guai, whose homers leader, Pistol Schmidt, only has 11. In short, the Shroud need to drive in those runners on base with big-time hits. If they are in the market for trades, they should look to sell off their farm for a home run hitter or two. The Lady Killers are a team we still feel wary about due to their epic collapse last season. Sure, they cleaned house with the coaching staff, but many of the same players are here and will get nervous if they drop a few games at a time. Starlight is in the middle of the pack in scoring (6th with 352) and runs allowed (7th with 346). One of their biggest problems is that what should be a good starting staff in City Moore (4-9, 6.49), Chris Schneier (5-8, 5.84), Justin Sphinx (9-2, 3.43), and Jonathan Newman (8-9, 5.75) is 11th in the NCA in Starters ERA. It's only that good because of Sphinx's production since joining the team in late-April in a trade with Warwick. Despite the numbers not looking great, this team does have a lot of leadership and ability and right now stands as our favorite for taking the IL.

The View from the BMU
Today in the CBO The View from the BMU by Nat Wright-Kawolski 12 July 2298 – Trinity Plaza On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play. In our seventeenth trip around the BMU, we will go back downtown to an eyesore and a nice park next to a historic church, Trinity Plaza. The Church and the Tower According to one terminal entry, "This plaza was founded in 1733 and later hosted Trinity Church (finished in 1877). The church became overshadowed by the monolithic Trinity Tower to the southeast. . . . Trinity Plaza is an outdoor area centrally located between Trinity Church to the east, the Boston Public Library to the west and Trinity Tower to the south." Trinity Church According to a terminal about the Tower, "Standing at thirty stories tall, Trinity Tower was one of Boston's tallest skyscrapers, located on the south side of Trinity Plaza in West Boston. Trinity Tower was devastated by the Great War but remained standing, and has been damaged further by the subsequent two centuries of exposure to the elements." Trinity Tower By the time Nate arrived to the area just east of Diamond City in 2288, it was overrun by super mutants. Nate even had to make a long climb up the Tower to rescue WRVR's Rex Goodman and a friendly super mutant named Strong. Well, "friendly" is an operative word here; basically, Strong did not want to eat Nate or Rex. Instead, he only wants to find the "milk of human kindness." To this day, Strong, whose whereabouts are unknown, is probably still seeking that "human milk" like Rex Goodman taught him in "Mack Beth." The Plaza as the Field Boston Public Library serves as a tourist attraction and part of the Trinity Plaza settlement. Settlers began populating the area right after Nate was able to rid the Trinity area, as well as Boston Public Library, of the super mutant infestation. Boston Public Library and the Trinity Church have become staples of pre-War information with the large volumes of intact pre-War books and terminal entries. This reporter uses the Boston Public Library for nearly every history of the Commonwealth story, including this one. Not far away to the east is the original Hubris Comics where some of the HCU series shows are sound recorded and indoor scenes are filmed. The Plaza was once a large open area park with a large but damaged statue of one of America's founding fathers, George Washington (pictured above). Now the statue has been moved closer to the church and the Plaza serves as the open area for Memory Den Field, the baseball park for the Trinity Plaza Snipers. A nicer view of the Plaza minus the "eyesore" The Tower is mostly in ruins and there is concern that it could one day collapse, which would probably mean the end for Trinity Church and Trinity Plaza. Nate and a team from the Brotherhood of Steel and the Institute have looked into means of using pre-War methods of dynamiting the building where it would either collapse straight down or away from the church. Whatever might happen, the Tower would cause considerable damage to the read and ruin other functional buildings. Further research is going into the proper way to dispose of the "eyesore of the Plaza."

July 2298 - News and Notes - July 12
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 12 July 2298 - Goodneighbor-Oberland Start Two-Game Set Today The two best teams in the CBO start a two-game series at Graygarden Park tonight when the Goodneighbor Hancocks (48-20) on an eight-game winning streak take on the Oberland T-51s (52-16), the best team in the CBO in all three regular seasons. First pitch is at 7:05 PM when Sheng Kawolski (10-1) will match up with the Hancocks' leadoff hitter, Good Don Duck. John Oldsink (8-4) is the starting pitcher for Goodneighbor. The teams have won two games apiece in their matchups, splitting a series at Goodneighbor in April and the second series at Oberland in June. After this series, the teams will meet one more time in the regular season on August 23 and 24 at Goodneighbor's Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS. 12 July 2298 - BMU: Sentry Bots Drop Snipers, 6-1 We are starting to suspect a pattern here. We feature a BMU settlement, and then its team promptly loses the Tuesday game. Maybe we should start calling our "View from the BMU" segment the "Curse of the Publick" instead! The Somerville Place Sentry Bots picked up a win at Memory Den Field, knocking off the Trinity Plaza Snipers, 6-1. On the mound for Somerville Place was right-hander Danny Bell, who played a pivotal role in the win. With the win, Somerville Place pushed its record to 25-24. Somerville Place used a well-timed hit by Jason Eisch to capture the win. The first baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Sentry Bots ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important. "We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Bell said. 12 July - BMU: Angelou Goes Wild, But Nerd Ragers Win The College Square Nerd Ragers defeated the Greentop Nursery Night People, 12-11. Doing his part was left fielder Jonathan Angelou, who was 1 for 1 with a home run and 5 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. The winner in relief was Lost Dog Coleman. He is now 3-0. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 1.1 innings. College Square is now riding a 4-game win streak. It could have been a different outcome for College Square, had it not been for Jared Zaccone, the 21-year old center fielder . Zaccone contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fifth inning to put College Square up, 8-6. "It was one of those games where both teams were swinging the bat well," Zaccone said. 12 July 2298 - BMU: Wilde has 3 hit night, Commandos Move to 35-14 No one was more impactful than Hunter Wilde in the 6-4 Haymarket Mall win over Mass Pike. Wilde, who is tied for 4th in the MA in home runs with 12, went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. With the victory, the Commandos upped their record to 35-14. Wilde contributed in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run. It was one at-bat among others that helped Haymarket Mall get the win. "I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Wilde told the Haymarket Mall Citizen. "You win just by scoring more runs." 12 July 2298 - Hancocks Make It 9 In a Row with 6-4 Triumph Oberland first baseman Curtis Slingshot had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Slingshot was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice, even as Goodneighbor beat the T-51s, 6-4. The winning continues for Goodneighbor, with the latest making it 9 straight. Goodneighbor used the bat of Good Don Duck to get the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Hancocks ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage. "Our guys are never satisfied," said Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate. John Oldsink (9-4) earned the win, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 8.0 innings. He allowed two home runs in the contest, both to the T-51s' Curtis Slingshot who now has 18 on the season. Bus Paula picked up his first save of the season. Sheng Kawolski (10-2) lost for just the second time this season. In 6.0 innings, he allowed five runs, three earned, on 11 hits with one walk and six strikeouts, He also allowed two home runs. Bryan Assman and John Rose both homered for the Hancocks. Jumper Hayes had four hits on the day, including two doubles. 12 July 2298 - Seaweed Shows Off, Hits for Cycle David Seaweed did everything he could for the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets today -- literally. What seemed rare just a few weeks ago is suddenly becoming commonplace. The 20-year-old right fielder hit a single, a double, a triple, and a home run for the Red Rockets, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 10-6, at Red Rockets Stadium. "Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Seaweed reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat." In a game headed for the record books, Seaweed banged out 4 hits in 5 at-bats and totaled 5 runs batted in and 1 run scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck." "A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle." David Seaweed hit a two-run home run off Casey Diehl in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit a two-run triple in the 3rd, struck out in the 6th and doubled in the 8th. In 2298 Seaweed has hit at a .301 clip with 82 hits, 15 home runs, 62 RBIs and has scored 47 times. 12 July 2298 - Adamantium Down Witch Hats, 6-5, in 21 Innings The Abernathy Adamantium took Salem pitcher Mike Cartrette's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Tato Field. The final score had Abernathy getting past the Witch Hats, 6-5in a record-setting 21-inning affair. Cartrette went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 11. Jim Livermore earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record is now 1-0. Abernathy raised its record to 38-31 with the win. The Adamantium procured the win, in large part because of second baseman Shotgun McElveen. In the bottom of the 21st, he produced the game-winning run-scoring triple. "This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," McElveen told the Abernathy Herald. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them." Joel Mutfruit did more than his part after he was criticized for his hitting in the Weekly Report. The Adamantium third baseman pounded out 5 hits in 9 at bats to pace his team to a 6-5 thumping of the Witch Hats. Mutfruit struck out in the 2nd, flied out in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, struck out in the 8th, doubled in the 11th, singled in the 13th, walked in the 15th, singled in the 17th, struck out in the 19th, and singled in the 21st, which led to the winning run. This season Mutfruit has hit at a .248 clip and produced 35 runs batted in, 9 home runs and 30 runs. Salem's Mike Castillo may be a player to live in infamy as he set a CBO record for at bats with 10, tied in the game by teammate Antonio Toeclaw and Abernathy's Donny Kowalski. However, Castillo was 0 for 10 in those at bats, dropping his batting average to .275 on the season. Notes: Mike Castillo sets the SAL regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 8. Donny Kowalski sets the ABE regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 8. Mike Castillo sets the NCA regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 9. Donny Kowalski sets the ABE regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 9. Po Greenzone sets the NCA regular season extra-inning game record for strikeouts with 5. Mike Castillo sets the NCA regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 10. Donny Kowalski sets the ABE regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 10. Antonio Toeclaw ties the NCA regular season extra-inning game record for strikeouts with 5. Joel Mutfruit ties the NCA regular season extra-inning game record for hits with 5. 12 July 2298 - Scrapper, Lady Killers Too Much for Four Leafs The Starlight Lady Killers grabbed a win, 10-6, over the Finch Farm Four Leafs at Finch Family Park. Starlight catcher Hope Scrapper was 3-4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. The win puts Starlight at 38-31 this season. It could have been a different outcome for Starlight, had it not been for Glenn Higinbotham, the top prospect . Higinbotham contributed a solo home run in the top of the first inning to put Starlight up, 1-0. "It was a nice win for our side today," said Lady Killers manager Eric Bendure. "Not perfect, but we'll take it." 12 July 2298 - Schmidt Excels, But Cats Win The Atom Cats weathered an outstanding game by FHE third baseman Pistol Schmidt to topple the Yao Guai, 10-8. Schmidt was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Sam Teflon was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. The win puts Atom at 28-41. Pat Shammo dealt the Yao Guai a blow in the bottom of the third. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Atom leading 5-2, Shammo hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run double. "You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Atom manager Ben Stoudt. 12 July 2298 - Party Boys Deal Chemists 4-1 Defeat Nordhagen Beach Party Boys starter Tommy Beach was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 4-1. Beach picked up the win for Nordhagen Beach, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 11-3. Night Demon Archacki notched his 14th save in 16 chances. Jon Hitman, the 30-year old third baseman, had a direct impact on the outcome. Hitman contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Nordhagen Beach up, 3-1. "Throwing strikes was the main thing," Beach said. The North Charles Association Brotherhood League-leading Party Boys are 43-26. 12 July 2298 - Bloodbugs Drop Silver Shroud, 5-3 County Crossing Bloodbugs starter Zach DiGrande pitched a strong game against the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud at Beantown Brewery Stadium, leading the Bloodbugs to victory, 5-3. In 6 innings, DiGrande surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. The win puts the Bloodbugs at 30-39, while the Silver Shroud drop to 37-32. Joel Carrotflower, the County Crossing second baseman, contributed a 2-run single in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 4-1, Bloodbugs. For the game, Carrotflower was 2-4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI. "I felt good up there," said Carrotflower. "I saw the ball well."

"We'll savor this win," Higinbotham told the Starlight Times, "then get ready for the next game." 13 July 2298 - Yao Guai Cream Cats, 17-3 FHE third baseman Pistol Schmidt had a 4-RBI performance, which helped his team down the Atom Cats, 17-3. FHE is third in the South Charles Association Railroad League with a record of 33-37. FHE relied on the bat of Noah Arch to get the win. The center fielder ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Yao Guai ahead, 5-0. For the game, Arch had 2 doubles and 1 home run in 6 at-bats. "We did more than enough to get the win," said Arch. 13 July 2298 - Hitman Helps Nordhagen Beach Cruise to 10-3 Win A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys and Sunshine Tidings Chemists. The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys downed the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 10-3. The hitting star was third baseman Jon Hitman. Hitman went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 doubles. Jim Pickman had a timely hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, the Oberland catcher hit a run-scoring single. That put the T-51s in front, 2-1. Udder said his team "played with determination." The teams have now won three games apiece in the battle for South Charles Association regular season supremacy. 13 July 2298 - Silver Shroud Rally Late, Beat County Crossing, 7-6 The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud bested the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 7-6, at Beantown Brewery Stadium. Sam Noob was one of the standouts. He was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Fort Hagen raised its record to 38-32 with the win. Noob had a game-changing double in the top of the ninth. On a 2-0 fastball from William Whitehurst, he banged a run-scoring double to left, giving the Silver Shroud a 7-6 lead. It was the 20th double of the year for Noob. "We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Noob said. The Shroud entered the top of the eighth trailing 6-2. With Jeff Rickashaw pitching, Seth Dungan doubled to start off the inning. With one out, Jim Tiller doubled in Dungan to make it 6-3. Noob then hit an RBI single and advanced to second on the throw. With two outs and runners on 1st and 2nd, Bixton Moore singled in Noob to make the score 6-5 heading to the bottom of the eighth. In the ninth inning, William Whitehurst came on for the Blodbugs for the save attempt. He looked to close out the game quickly as he got the first two batters out. However, he then gave up a single and then an RBI double to Tiller to tie the game at 6-6 before Noob came up for his final at bat. Noob then came through to push Fort Hagen on top. Curtis Thriceshot pitched the bottom of the ninth, getting County Crossing down in order to pick up his CBO-best 25th save. Reliever Matt Demented was credited with the win to go 3-2 on the season. Whitehurst (4-4) was the losing pitcher thanks to his second blown save of the season.

School: Shaw High School Class: French I Teacher: Mrs. Fritterschmidt Date: 3/10/2077 Report: Bastille Day is important to me becos it is on my birthday. It is a holiday celebrated in France with croissants and baguettes and other French stuff. The French call the day le 14 juillet or Quarters juilliet because I think they really like Juliette from Romeo and Juliette because her name sound French, not English or Italian. Also, I think they like American money. Bastill Day is sellebrated every July 14 becos that is the day the French think they are like America and pop fireworks and play music. I think they accidentally added a 1 to the date and celebrate on the wrong date becos it should be July 4 if they are copying America. They aalo wanted to have a festival like America so they called theirs Fete Nationale so that it sounds more French and not American, but I think it looks like Feet National and I know the french like to walk on grapes bear feet. France is always copying America but they love America so they made the Statue of Liberty and copied a tiny one in Paris. That is why I think Bastille Fay is impotent. -Buck W

![]() It's finals time, so it is also begging season. Now, about Mr. Hitman: he has been on fire for an offense that has been on fire. Hitman is batting .422 (19 of 45) with seven doubles, two home runs, seven runs, and 13 RBI since joining the Party Boys 10 games ago. He has a .422/.469/.711 line in his last 10. Four of those games have been against Sunshine Tidings, where he is 11 for 19 with five of his doubles, one of his homers, four runs, and 10 RBI. And of course Nordhagen Beach has scored runs like this since he joined the team: 14, 23, 4, 8, 15, 4, 6, 7, 4, and 10. That's FOUR 10+ run games! That 10-game stretch pushed them past Easy Town for tops in runs scored in the NCA.

July 2298 - News and Notes - July 15
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 15 July 2298 - Noob Powers Silver Shroud to 12-4 Win The 12-4 Fort Hagen win over Concord was due in large part to Sam Noob. The Silver Shroud right fielder was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5. Fort Hagen now has a record of 39-32 with the win. It could have been a different outcome for Fort Hagen, had it not been for Jim Tiller, the top prospect . Tiller contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put Fort Hagen up, 1-0. "One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Noob told the Fort Hagen Bulletin. 15 July 2298 - Iddings Fans 15 Red Rockets In a performance to behold, Bruce Iddings was masterful today in the Hancocks 12-4 victory over the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets. He had them batting the breeze most of the day. In a strong outing, Iddings registered 15 strikeouts in the ballgame, gave up 8 hits and 2 walks. The 15 strikeouts sets the South Charles Association and ties the CBO record for a single game, breaking his own SCA record of 14 set on April 26. To this point in the season Iddings has 13 wins and 2 losses and a 3.14 ERA. With 143 strikeouts on the season, he is first in the SCA and second in the CBO behind Salem's Mike Cartrette (156). Cartrette also had a 15-strikeout performance, his on April 27. Cartrette also struck out 15 on 29 July 2297. The three games named in this article by Iddings and Cartrette are the only three 15+ strikeout games in CBO history. Despite Iddings' record-setting performance, Jumper Hayes was named the game MVP. The second baseman was 2 for 4 with a triple, a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI. 15 July 2298 - Justin Sphinx Blanks Sunshine Tidings, 12-0 There was no spell, no black magic -- just good pitching. Justin Sphinx of the Starlight Lady Killers blanked the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 12-0, at ArcJet Systems Stadium today, and he did it the old-fashioned way. After finishing the 6-hit, complete-game shutout, he was all smiles. "I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game," Sphinx said. "I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance." Sphinx walked 2 and struck out 4 in the victory. "He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes," Chemists manager Cozy Burmaster said later. In season stats Sphinx shows a 10-2 record in 14 games, 98.1 innings, 78 strikeouts and a 3.11 ERA. RF Damani Beebe was outstanding at the plate. He was 3 for 6 with two home runs, three runs scored, and six RBI. Hubris McBride also hit his 14th home run of the season at the leadoff position. His 14 home runs leads the Lady Killers. 15 July 2298 - Ratican Rips 2 Home Runs in 12-7 Knuckle Punchers Triumph Behind a fine performance from Matt Ratican, the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers knocked off the Vault 81 Dwellers, 12-7. Ratican was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 7 runs and scored twice for the Knuckle Punchers. The triumph makes Roxbury 19-52. Early in the game, Ratican had a 3-run home run for Roxbury. It was his 13th home run of the season and put the Knuckle Punchers on top, 4-1. "It was a solid team effort," said Ratican after the game. 15 July 2298 - Party Boys Stay Hot, Beat Bloodbugs, 6-3 Nordhagen Beach picked up a win at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium, bumping off the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 6-3. Pitcher Julian Shed was a major reason the Party Boys emerged victorious. The winning pitcher was Shed, now 8-7. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 6. Night Demon Archacki notched his 15th save in 17 chances. The outcome was still in doubt with two out in the top of the second inning, but Shed was able to pitch out of a jam. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and County Crossing trailing 1-0, Shed retired Slim Chembaker, who struck out. The North Charles Association Brotherhood League-leading Party Boys are 45-26.

July 2298 - News and Notes - July 16
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 16 July 2298 - Gimp is Gimpy FHE Yao Guai reliever Gimp Shackelford has to make an emergency trip to Vault 81 this morning after discovering an apparent infection on his backside. Shackelford woke up with soreness and redness covering the entirety of his lower back all the way down to his hamstrings. Team trainer Andy Roe alerted Shackelford that he had a bad infection, possibly a "staph" infection that would need to be treated. Roe decided that Shackelford needed to go to Vault 81 instead of Milton General Hospital because Marie Curie may know better how to treat him. In 18 games pitched on the season, Shackelford has allowed five earned runs on 23 hits with four walks and 25 strikeouts in 26.2 innings. 16 July 2298 - Mayday Wilkins Looking to Adjust It has only been a month since Mayday Wilkins joined Goodneighbor in a trade from FHE, but the reliever thinks he will have a big impact come September. Since joining the Hancocks, Wilkins has only appeared in three games, allowing no earned runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in 3.2 innings. He last appeared July 13 against Oberland when he pitched two scoreless innings in the 2-1 loss. Despite his low usage, Wilkins, however, is not discouraged from getting little work. "I came here because Goodneighbor wants to win the championship," Wilkins said. "I don't think they traded for me without a plan." On the season, Wilkins is 1-0 with one save. He has pitched 16.1 innings in 15 total appearances, allowing 10 earned runs (5.51 ERA) on 22 hits with three walks and 17 strikeouts. "I'm not young like a lot of the guys," the 33-year-old said. "That's why I think the coaches are saving me until September so I can help them win games in the playoffs." 16 July 2298 - Hancocks Lambaste Red Rockets, 13-1 The Goodneighbor Hancocks beat the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, 13-1, at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS. The Hancocks got a fine performance from first baseman Bryan Assman, who was 3 for 3 with a triple, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Quincy Eloquent earned the win to go to 12-5. He allowed 1 run on 8 hits, with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts in 8.1 innings of work. The victory gives Goodneighbor a record of 51-21. In the bottom of the first, Jumper Hayes hit a 2-run home run. The 8th home run of the season for the Goodneighbor second baseman put the Hancocks on top, 2-0. "Nice to tuck this win away," said Hayes. 16 July 2298 - Pettinato Helps Quincy Outscore Atom The Quincy Gunners grabbed a win, 15-10, over the Atom Cats at The Stone House. Quincy third baseman Ben Pettinato went 4 for 5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Ryan Kazarian notched his 2nd save in 4 chances. With the win, Quincy pushed its record to 38-34. The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fifth when Pettinato, who is on pace for 69 RBI this season, hit a 2-run single. It propelled the Gunners into the lead, 9-7. "Nice to see our side come away with the win," Pettinato said after the game. Jeff "Baywatch" Fischler was outstanding for the Cats. He was 4 for 5 with a triple, a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI. 16 July 2298 - Party Boys Reel Off Another Win The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys picked up a win at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium, knocking off the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 5-4. Starting pitcher Derek Gist played a key role in the triumph. With the win, Nordhagen Beach upped its record to 46-26. The Party Boys got a big at-bat from right fielder Tomas Jones. For the game, Jones went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 18th home run of the season gave Nordhagen Beach a 3-0 lead. "We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Jones. 16 July 2298 - Fort Hagen Beats Concord, 2-1 Fort Hagen Silver Shroud starter Derek Green turned in a top-notch performance against the Concord Radstags at Nuka Park. The result was a win for the Silver Shroud, 2-1. Green, now 8-9, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing no runs. With the win, Fort Hagen raised its record to 40-32. Micah Morals, the 22-year old third baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Morals contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Fort Hagen up, 2-0. "We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Morals. 16 July 2298 - T-51s Need 10 to Do in Swatters The Oberland T-51s picked up a win at Graygarden Park, taking down the Diamond City Swatters, 5-4, in 10 innings. Starting pitcher Lennie Landslide was a big reason why after allowing just one run in 6.0 innings. Aaron Still, credited with the win, is now 5-0. He allowed no runs on no hits. Oberland leads the South Charles Association Railroad League by 16 games. The T-51s procured the win, in large part because of third baseman Jeremy Bugs. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single. "Put a star next to this win," Bugs said. The Swatters' Wally Warwick made the game more interesting in the top of the 8th when he hit a three-run bomb off Oberland reliever Matt Breakball to tie the game, 4-4.

"It felt great to be hitting like that, but a downer when you look at the scoreboard. 5-for-5 does wonders for your confidence, but it's a shame we couldn't win, too." Prince Billingsley hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and singled in the 8th. 2298 Week 15 - The Week in Review
Analysis
Oberland and Goodneighbor swapped at the top once again. Though the Hancocks have been one of the two hottest teams in the CBO, the rankers moved the T-51s back to the top spot. Goodneighbor trails Oberland by three games in the race for the #1 seed, and it looks like these two teams will remain competitive throughout the season to try for that home advantage. The other hottest team is the Nordhagen Beach who followed up a six-game winning streak with their current longest streak of seven games. In four series in July, the Party Boys have won all four and now sit at 10-1 in the month to push their league lead to seven games over The Slog and eight over Easy Town. Abernathy climbs up the Power Rankings again thanks to a sweep of Sale, which included a 21-inning affair, and a series win at Lexington. That turnaround comes after going 1-5 in the Institute League in their first two July series. Now the Adamantium hold a one-game lead over both Fort Hagen and Starlight in the league we featured last week. Another team that has been super hot in July is Warwick, which now holds a better position in the Minutemen League after beating University Point two out of three times. The Mirelurks are two games up on Quincy and three up on the Deathclaws for the ML Wildcard spot. Power Rankings Weekly Team Power Rankings: Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Oberland T-51s (141.6, +1) 2) Goodneighbor Hancocks (139.2, -1) 3) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (130.9, o) 4) Warwick Mirelurks (109.1, +2) 5) Abernathy Adamantium (103.1, ++6) 6) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (101.6, -1) 7) Starlight Lady Killers (98.6, +1) 8) The Slog Ghouls (98.6, -1) 9) Easy Town Assaultrons (98.2, +1) 10) Quincy Gunners (98.2, ++5) 11) Diamond City Swatters (95.7, --7) 12) University Point Deathclaws (91.7, --3) 13) FHE Yao Guai (89.3, +1) 14) Concord Radstags (84.8, -2) 15) Salem Witch Hats (78.9, +1) 16) Finch Farm Four Leafs (77.8, --3) 17) Vault 81 Dwellers (76.0, ++4) 18) Lexington Synths (75.4, -1) 19) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (71.9, o) 20) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (69.0, ++3) 21) Egret Ninjas (67.4, +1) 22) County Crossing Bloodbugs (66.0, --4) 23) Atom Cats (61.0, --3) 24) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (38.8, o) The CBO MVP is in the South While several players are having MVP-like seasons and are bound to be competitive for the North Charles Association MVP, the overall CBO MVP appears to be a player in the South Charles Association. We will analyze those three below in our current order of prediction for the final vote should it happen today. Wayne Lacy, RF. Diamond City Just recently, we may have had Lacy as the unanimous favorite. However, the two players below have come on as of late to make this race a little tighter. First, here are Lacy's impressive numbers: .373 average (8th CBO) 112 hits (T-10th) 27 home runs (1st) 75 RBI (2nd) 72 runs (T-3rd) .433 OBP (6th) .713 SLUG (1st) .340 ISO (1st) 4.7 WAR (T-1st) Jumper Hayes, 2B, Goodneighbor Hayes has been one of the hottest hitters in the league, including winning the Player of the Week award for the second time this month, which will probably earn him the July Player of the Month award. Hayes' numbers in the Top Ten of the CBO: 113 hits (T-7th) 66 runs (T-5th) 4.7 WAR (T-1st) 15.5 Def. Zone Rating (2nd) 1.152 Def. Efficiency (6th) Stuart Costantino, C, Quincy Costantino seems to be a longshot for the MVP at this point, but he hits well from a difficult position. Not many other catchers in the league hit as well as Costantino does, pushing him up on the overall outlook because of his position. Here are his numbers in the Top Ten: .376 average (T-6th) 65 runs (7th) .450 OBP (3rd) 4.5 WAR (3rd)

The View from the BMU
Today in the CBO The View from the BMU by Nat Wright-Kawolski 19 July 2298 – General Atomics Galleria On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play. In our eighteenth trip around the BMU, we will go the pre-War shopping center run entirely by robots, General Atomics Galleria. Robots Be Crazy According to a terminal entry at the Galleria, "A pre-War relic, the galleria was meant to be a demonstration of what a town's commercial district would look like if it were run entirely by robots. Inhabited only by Mr. Handies and Mr. Gutsies of varying personalities, the location is entirely oblivious to the war. "Just prior to the war, a grand opening supervisor was meant to arrive, whom [Nate Howard] masquerade[d] as in order to gain further access to the location. A manual password override can be found at the terminal in the back of the bowling alley, while the prior supervisor's password keycard can be found in the director's office to the left of their desk. "If one reads the myriad of terminals, it can be learned that it is suspected that the previous supervisor was killed by the director, with an advisory that the park should be shut down permanently. "The various shops around the galleria remain open, but will not operate normally until the grand re-opening event has been officially triggered. Due to errors in the Mr. Handy robots' programming, many interactions can result in the shopkeepers and inhabitants attacking the Sole Survivor, resulting in the destruction of robots that would have otherwise become vendors." Nate was able to use some acquired hacking skills to tame the robots at the location, eventually turning the shops and bowling alley into a nice escape from Boston in the Commonwealth. Human who settled the area worked as suppliers, bankers, repairers, and other needed services that the robots cannot supply. The Galleria Attractions The Control Tower - Get a view of the scenery and interact with the management bots. General Atomics Outlet - Shopping and souvenirs. Buy your own personal robot here. Madden's Gym - Get your boxing lessons here. You can even fight the Champ. Handy Eats - The one and only robot-run restaurant of the Commonwealth. Back Alley Bowling - A fun distraction from life. Bowl, play billiards, play arcade games, be young. Fallon's Department Store - One of the newest Fallon's chain stores around the Commonwealth. Pinelli's Bakery - Donuts, Sweet Rolls, and Cakes: All made by the chef robot, Torte. Slocum's Joe - One of the few intact Slocum's around the Commonwealth. Still serving hot coffee, jelly donuts, and Slocum's famous Buzzbites. General Atomics Galleria Park - The only stadium with a robot PA announcer.
