My mom lived to 94. Sadly she suffered from dementia in her final years. I live in dread of that happening to me. Trying to keep my mind active with a large bucket list of fighters to creat. Also do lots of crosswords.

What about your dad? Both of my parents were at least pretty sharp right to the end, so something else will kill me.

Dad passed away a few months after the Bears Super Bowl win. Cancer contributed to his demise. He smoked a pack or two of Camels a day. He was in his 70s. He never lost his sense of humor. We watched a lot of sports together over the years:Baseball, football, hockey, and the fights.When I was 7 he took me to see The Harder They Fall and spent the rest of the day telling me stories about old fighters and local gangsters. He treated the Sporting News like it was a sacred text.

Your life stories really struck a cord with me. I had an aunt that also suffered from dementia as well, scares the hell out of me. Your approach is good and you can't let that specter control things I guess.
My dad passed when I was 7yo but the few memories I have is going fishing & duck hunting with him. My most fond memories however
were watching the Friday night "Gillette Cavalcade of Sports Boxing"!
The Fullmer brothers, (Gene & Don) & how about Rocky Marciano vs Jersey Joe , and so many other great fighters of the late 40's and 50's!
My Dad had a passion for boxing and passed on some great stories related to the sport! He also boxed in Golden Gloves or what ever it was called then as a young man. He use to box in events at some of the local county fairs & at the Milwaukee Eagles Club if I recall correctly.
So just wanted to say thank you as I recall those Friday nights I so looked forward to. You just made my day!

I used to smoke a pipe but gave it up 20 years ago. Wow. 50 years together. Really great. Liz and I have a shade over 20. I consider us to be a mixed marriage since she's a Packer and cub fan. Baseball was my dad's favorite sport although boxing ranked high. My sister recalls listening to Louis Conn II with dad on the radio. Like you I remember Friday night fights(and any other night they were televised) The old Gilette jingle is running through my head.as I type. Harry Dublinsky's brother Joe was a frequent house guest when I was a kid. When I was very young my dad told me about a trick old cutmen used for nose bleeds. Its worked for me for 60 years.
