Nice second round pick. Mincher had a decent career, making the All Star team with the Seattle Pilots in 1969 when he hit 25 homers, a total of 200 in his 13 year career.

We have only begun this season's journey to see who will meet in the World Series. If there is any indication of how the quest will develop, April was not the month to show it.
The Cardinals lost 10 straight to open the season as the Phillies are looking for a repeat. Not so in the American League, the Yankees are in the middle of the pack.

May 15th 1956 Update
In the American League, Boston and Baltimore are slugging it out as the Red Sox are the current hot team. Over in the National League, the St Louis Cardinals started out 0-10
and have crawled out of the cellar. Meanwhile the Cubs sprung out ahead of defending Champs the Phillies. Defending AL Champs, the Yankees are in the middle of the pack.

June 1st 1956 Update
It looked as if the St Louis Cardinals were going to turn their dismal start around. Not! They are on a 7 game losing streak. Only the Brooklyn Dodgers have a far worse record at
this point in the season. The New York Yankees decided to make a move and race to the top of the AL. In the NL, the Phillies have retaken the top spot from the Cubs. But there
is still time left for any team to make their move.

June 15th 1956 Update
The season is starting to heat up as the Baltimore Orioles have broken out of the American League, a 10 game winning streak helped them out. Over in the National League, the
Cubs have seen their lead shrink over the New York Giants. Willie Mays (Phillies) .407 and Bill Skowron (Cubs) .405 are looking for the fabled .400 Batting Average Club.

July 1st 1956 Update
We have two hot teams going into the the stretch for the All Star Break. The New York Yankees decided to pull ahead of the Baltimore Orioles, a 15 game winning streak and a
falter for the Orioles. Over in the National League, the Cubs have pulled ahead, but they should watch out for the Giants. A half dozen players are loitering around the .400 Club.
Maybe one will do it, maybe the first since Ernie Lombardi's .410 in 1936. The Race

August 1st 1956 Update
The two NY York Ballclub have the best record to start the second half of the season, 14-6. The Yankees have a double digit lead over the Red Sox. In the National League, the
Cubs are holding on to a diminishing lead over three clubs. We still have around 52 games remaining, so it is anyone's ball game.

Washington Senators Report
Record 51-51: 5th Place 18 GB
A better record in July (17-11) help to lift the somewhat dismal season. Steve Bilko is on pace to hit 56 HRs. It might break Willie Mays' and Babe Ruth's record of 48 in a single season

The Cubs are on a roll with 10 straight wins. The Yankees are still holding a double digit lead. There is still plenty of ball games to play, so stay tuned.
