Well, everybody''s entitled to one bad inning per month, I'd say, I grant you that giving up a salami to Lewis Brinson, of all underachievers, is embarrassing, and being down four runs after four batters hit isn't so good when you team can only manage three all night, but I wouldn't consign Megill to the scrap heap just yet.

On the plus side, Baez drew a walk! Before he'd ever struck out as a Met, no less. What are the odds on that??? And Conforto got a hit,

But that's thin gruel. 4 out of 5 down the drain. Let's see if Walker's recovered from the ASG, yet.

Zilch. Javier Bum-ez struck out twice on Saturday, his Mets debut.

Have you wised up and started drinking heavily yet? They play the last place team again in a few hours, start self-medicating now.

Also, I counted 3 position players last night that can't run at full speed, or weren't to try to avoid aggravating an injury. Such a mess.

I guess I should quickly note the highlights of Tuesday's debacle before watching tonight's "fun":

• "Bombs Away!" Walker gives up HRs to Isan Diaz (3rd of the season) and Alex Jackson (1st of his career).
• At the time of the HR, Jackson was batting .037. Yes, you read that right.
• Walker also gave up a 2-run, 2-out single to Bryan de la Cruz, who entered the game hitting .071

Gary Cohen had a crap game calling it off of the monitor. He nearly called JD Davis's double a home run, and got way too excited for fly balls by McNeil and Alonso.

OTOH, he called the ball Alfaro hit to drive in the final MIA run "a broken-bat bloop". It landed on the warning track. Some "bloop", Gary.

(Btw, we had a play at the plate on Brinson…but Gold Glove Baez threw the relay halfway to Biscayne Bay. Sigh…)

Mets won a game, and I see from the box score that PEEEETE stole a base, so I assume the Fish were afflicted with *at least* communal diarrhea to facilitate that, which also explains the 5-3 W the Mets limped away with.

I missed all of this series, but will get to see today's ******** **** womble. Huzzah!

El Mago. I'm not used to seeing such baseball savvy in the Mets uniform. That home plate slide was incredible.

After seeing Villar, Pete, and Dom all reach base and stand their waiting with nobody out, and suffering through consecutive shambolics by Whiffis, Flailez, and Popforto, I need a drink.

Since I have neither alcohol nor carbolic acid handy, I'll try my luck with this (plonks down yellow bottle) dishwashing liquid.

Hey, it's only the third time in four innings the Mets left the bases loaded. (7th and 8th last night, 1st today.)

Gotta keep the suspense going, right?

Oh hi fellow degenerates, isn't it fun watching the first place team* in the NL East play the last place team?

PS. As I was typing this the ball off Brinson's bat went in the gap. So let's say *** next to "first place".

Javier Baez came to the plate five times today.

He struck out

and struck out

and struck out

and struck out

and... struck out.

Eight left on. Reminds me of an old post at Faith and Fear in Flushing.

Quote:
On a night when few did much and many did little, Bay continued to brave the storm in a skiff made of futility, standing in proximity to home plate six times for no immediately discernible reason. He produced a groundout, reached on an error and then struck out, struck out, struck out and…struck out.

0-for-6 with four strikeouts, none of which came with a Met runner on base, which prevents me, in all good conscience, from picketing the team hotel in L.A. this morning while chanting:

HEY, HEY, JASON BAY!
HOW MANY METS DID YOU STRAND TODAY?

Thumbs down

I didn't even realize there was such a thing as a platinum sombrero, but leave it to the $%@% Marlins to inflict one. Also I didn't know a team could make 5 errors and still win a game.

Let's all get drunk like it's the last night of the world first place!

I had to look this up to verify and yep, 5 K's, all swinging. Wow. Gallo is going through the same thing on our side (Baez is doing just a bit better than him, though). Funny how some guys, when traded, freeze like a deer in headlights while others dive right in like a porpoise.

I mean close to half his outs are strikeouts. Either expect a lot of strikeouts or gnash your teeth for the next few months.

All I'm saying is if somebody had bothered to call Ruben Tejada to cover for Lindor's absence, the Mets might have scored more runs today. Yes, Ruben's also gonna hit .210-ish. But he'd put a couple in play. Like, f.e., with the bases ******* stuffed.

I always loathed Javier Baez, but I saw him only a couple of times a year (I actually see quite a few Cubs games every year, since especially on Fridays they might be the only entertainment in town), but now he's on my screaming stupid team...

He can be all the nice guy to have around he wants to be. I loath Baez. I hate the type of player Baez is. I hate having the type of player that Baez is on my team.

Lindor's best buds with him? Good! They can go to L.A. next year together!

I'm going back to bed.

First "platinum sombrero" for the Mets since Ryan Thompson in 1993. (Previous offenders were Ron Swoboda [2x], Dave Kingman and…Frank Taveras?)

I'm fairly sure that with Baez on the team, we won't have to wait 28 years for the next occurence, Perhaps not even 28 DAYS.

And isn't great that with 27 (or however many) arms in the bullpen, Boy Genus Rojas handles the staff so well that he needed to get key outs in the 8th from…Yennsy Diaz? I mean, Yennsy did fine cleaning up Familia's mess. But still.

Contributing to the "fun" of the Marlins' winning rally was the Mets twice failing to get easy outs at home plate. The first time, Defensive Stud James McCann whiffed on the tag. The second time, he dropped the throw. Yay for defense!

That said, the winners on the night had to be the offense:

Marlins gift us with 8 BB, 5 errors
Mets score 2 runs, have 15 LOB

Championship form! I can smell the champagne now!
