Game 64: Boston Americans vs. Detroit Tigers
A solid win by the visiting team, as this game remained close throughout. In the end, the Boston Americans (37-27) picked up the victory by topping the Detroit Tigers (34-30) by a 6 to 5 score. Boston now enjoys a 2-game lead in the American League standings over the Philadelphia Athletics (35-29).
Sam Leever (10-5) was today's winning pitcher of record, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits in his 124-pitch outing; Game Score 53. American League All-Star Selections
The results are out, and the Detroit Tigers lead the American League with six (6) players named to the 1904 All-Star Game. The Boston Americans and Washington Senators are each providing four (4) players. Despite the appropriate league rules, neither the St. Louis Browns nor the Chicago White Sox had a player named. The Commissioner's office is investigating.

Game Performance Spotlight: Tommy Sheehan
Richmond Flying Squirrels 3rd baseman Tommy Sheehan had a tremendous game in a losing outcome. Achieving 6 hits (11 total bases with 2 Runs and 4 RBIs) in the game, Sheehan is making a name for himself and showing that he might soon be on his way to his Brooklyn Superbas parent club.

Game 65: Boston Americans vs. Detroit Tigers
Make that 7 consecutive wins, as the Boston Americans (38-27) topped the Detroit Tigers (34-31) by a 4 to 3 score as the teams head into the All-Star break. Despite the nice win streak, Boston's lead in the American League race remains at 2 games as the Athletics continue to win as well.
Despite arguably being outpitched by his opponent, Noodles Hahn (11-5) picked up the win by allowing just 3 earned runs on 10 hits and 1 walk in the 124-pitch effort; Game Score 56. Despite taking the loss, Doc White (10-8) pitched well allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks, striking out 5; Game Score 62. The hitting attack for the Americans was led by Bill Lange (1 for 3, Double, Run, 2 RBIs, Walk) and Dave Brain (1 for 4, Triple, Run). The Tigers' hot bats were powered by Jim Delahanty (3 for 4, 2 Doubles, Run), Roger Bresnahan (3 for 4, Run), and Miller Huggins (2 for 4, RBI). Player of the Game: Doc White

1904 All-Star Game
What an All-Star Game this was! Despite trailing by a 5 to 2 score heading into the bottom of the 8th inning, the National League mounted a furious comeback to pick up the win by a 6 to 5 outcome.
Red Ames, as the National League starter, pitched 2 innings in which he allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 37. The NL bullpen took over with Elmer Stricklett, Bill Reidy, Bob Wicker, and Jack Pfiester keeping things in check. George Mullin (1-0) picked up the win by going 3 innings in which he permitted 2 earned runs on 4 hits and 1 walk. Rube Waddell was give the start for the AL, going 1 inning in which he allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits; Game Score 37. Things went well for the bullpen, as Rip Ragan and Bob Ewing did not allow a run in their combined 2 innings. For reasons I simply cannot determine, Jock Menefee (0-1) was forced to pitch 5 2/3 innings in which he served up 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits and 3 walks. The AL did not use ace pitchers Noodles Hahn or Christy Mathewson -- why??? The National League hitting attack was led by Cy Seymour (3 for 5, 2 Runs), Nap Lajoie (2 for 4, 2 Runs, Walk, Stolen Base), Bill Dahlen (2 for 3, 3 RBIs), and Zaza Harvey (1 for 1, Double, Run, RBI, 2 Walks). The American League offense was powered by Roger Bresnahan (3 for 3, Run, RBI), Honus Wagner (2 for 3, Double, Run), and Freddy Parent (1 for 2, Double, RBI). Player of the Game: Roger Bresnahan ***No idea why the game recap shows Bresnahan on both AL and NL teams***

Game 66: Philadelphia Athletics vs. Boston Americans
A tremendous pitching battle between Noodles Hahn and Joe Turner. Thanks to a timely 9th-inning sacrifice fly by Hahn, the Boston Americans (39-27) topped the Philadelphia Athletics (36-30) by a score of 1 to 0. The Americans maintain a 3-game lead in the American League race.
Noodles Hahn (12-5) twirled a gem, scattering 5 hits and 2 walks on his way to the 104-pitch shutout; Game Score 79. Joe Turner (6-4) pitched a fine game, allowing just 1 earned run on 5 hits and 5 walks in 8 2/3 innings of play; Game Score 68. While this was largely a pitchers' game, there were a few noteworthy hitting performances. For the Americans, Fred Clarke (1 for 2, Triple, 2 Walks) and John Farrell (2 for 4) played well, while Tommy Corcoran (2 for 4, Double) and Honus Wagner (1 for 3, Walk, Stolen Base) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Noodles Hahn (Season: #11 / Career: #72)

Game 67: Philadelphia Athletics vs. Boston Americans
It wasn't pretty, but make that a 9-game winning streak for the Boston Americans. In a game that saw the home team cruising through the first 6 innings, a series of walks and gap hits made this a close one. In the end, the Americans (40-27) topped the visiting Philadelphia Athletics (36-31) by a 5 to 4 victory in 11-innings of play. The win moved Boston into a 4-game lead in the American League race.
The challenges of the rookie season have been present for 18-year old pitcher Johnny Lush. In today's game, Lush (9-8) picked up the victory but continued to struggle with command has he allowed 4 earned runs on 8 hits and 6 walks while striking out 5 in 11-innings; Game Score 64. Taking the loss was Earl Moore (6-5) who permitted 5 earned runs on 10 hits, 4 walks, and 2 hit batsmen in 10-innings of play; Game Score 52. The Americans' offense was generated by Johnny Lush (3 for 5, 2 Doubles, Run), Bill Lange (2 for 4, Triple, 2 RBIs, Hit by Pitch, Stolen Base), and Fred Clarke (2 for 4, Run, Hit by Pitch). Tommy Corcoran (1 for 4, Double, 3 RBIs, Walk), Larry McLean (2 for 4, Double, RBI), and Tom McCreery (1 for 3, Run, 2 Walks). Player of the Game: Johnny Lush (Season: #11 / Career: #11)

Game 68: Philadelphia Athletics vs. Boston Americans
The win streak has now reached ten (10) consecutive games! Taking the lead in the 5th inning and a nice cushion of runs in the 6th inning provided the Boston Americans (41-27) with the support it needed to take the game by a 9 to 3 score over the visiting Philadelphia Athletics (36-32).
Jesse Tannehill (9-7) picked up the victory by limiting Philadelphia to 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk in the 109-pitch complete game; Game Score 63. Mike Lynch (9-7) was denied reaching double-digit wins on the season, as he was tagged for 8 runs (4 earned) on 11 hits, 5 walks, and 1 hit batsman in 6 innings of play; Game Score 24. Lave Winham pitched a scoreless inning before turning the ball over to Connie McGeehan who allowed 1 earned run in his 1 inning of play. The Americans hitting-attack was powered by Bill Lange (2 for 4, Double, Triple, 2 Runs, Sacrifice Bunt), Solly Hofman (3 for 5, 2 Runs, Stolen Base), and Fred Clarke (2 for 4, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs, Walk, Stolen Base). John Titus (2 for 4, Triple, 2 Runs) and George Davis (2 for 3, Run, RBI, Sacrifice Fly) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Jesse Tannehill (Season: #8 / Career: #66)

MLB Top Prospects
Updated list with the league's top prospects is out. Leading the way is the St. Louis Browns' pitching duo of Mario Rios and Sergio Chico. The Boston Americans have the #4 (Ralph Caldwell) and #10 (Joel Servin) overall prospects.

Mid-Season Review of Goals
Nothing like a favorable report from the team owner. So far, he is happy with how the season has played out.

Game 69: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
A nice win by the visiting team to run Boston's consecutive game win streak to 11 in a row! Through the solid pitching of Sam Leever and a few timely placed hits by Frank Chance, the Boston Americans (42-27) topped the St. Louis Browns (29-40) by a 3 to 0 margin. The Americans enjoy a 4 game lead over the Washington Senators in the American League race.
Sam Leever (11-5) had his stuff working today, as he tossed a 108-pitch complete game shutout in which he allowed just 2 hits, 3 walks, and 1 hit batsman; Game Score 81. This marks Leever's 7th consecutive victory in as many starts. Hooks Wiltse (6-10) was saddled with the loss after permitting 3 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 60. Frank Chance (2 for 4, Double, Triple, RBI), Fred Clarke (2 for 4, Run, RBI), and Danny Shay (1 for 3, Run, RBI, Walk) powered the Boston offense, while Bill Hassamaer (1 for 2, Double, Walk, Stolen Base) was the lone bright spot for the Browns. Player of the Game: Sam Leever (Season: #8 / Career: #44)

Game 70: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
All good things must come to an end. Here, the St. Louis Browns (30-40) stopped the Boston Americans (42-28) by a 6 to 4 score; ending the Americans consecutive game winning streak. Boston enjoys a 4-game lead over the Washington Senators in the American League standings.
St. Louis pitcher Andy Coakley (7-11) picked up the win by limiting the opposition to 4 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits and 3 walks; Game Score 60. Noodles Hahn (12-6) was tagged with the loss after permitting 6 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings of play; Game Score 46. The Browns' offense was led by Kip Selbach (2 for 4, Double, 2 RBIs), Bill Hassamaer (2 for 4, Double, Run, RBI, Stolen Base), and Ed Phelps (1 for 2, 2 RBIs, Walk). For the Americans, Fred Clarke (4 for 5, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs) was the primary source of production. Player of the Game: Fred Clarke (Season: #1 / Career: #5)

Game 71: Boston Americans vs. St. Louis Browns
A frustrating game that I would have loved to have seen Johnny Lush pick up his 10th win of the season. Instead, a combination of Lush's shaky control and poor defense by his teammates allowed the St. Louis Browns (31-40) to top the Boston Americans (42-29) by a 6 to 5 score. The sloppy defense play (5 errors) made Boston's chances to win much lower.
Weldon Henley (9-9) picked up the win after allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits and 3 walks; Game Score 49. Johnny Lush (9-9) was saddled with the loss on account of permitting 6 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings of play; Game Score 50. The St. Louis Browns relied on Charlie Babb (1 for 3, Double, Run, Walk), Patsy Donovan (2 for 4, Run, RBI), and Ed Phelps (2 for 3, RBI). For the Americans, Jesse Hoffmeister (2 for 3, Double, Triple, 2 Runs, RBI, Sacrifice Fly), Fred Clarke (2 for 5, Run), and John Farrell (1 for 3, Run, RBI, Walk). Player of the Game: Weldon Henley

Game 72: Boston Americans vs. Chicago White Sox
The tide has turned and now the Americans are on a 3-game losing streak. Here the Chicago White Sox (31-41) bested the visiting Boston Americans (42-30) by a 6 to 2 score. With the loss, Boston's lead in the American League race is down to 3 games.
Wild Bill Phillips (7-11) pitched a fine game, allowing just 2 earned runs on 6 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 67. Phillips' win snaps a 5-game consecutive start losing streak. In contrast, Jesse Tannehill (9-8) pitched arguably his worst game of the season, as he served up 6 earned runs on 13 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings of play; Game Score 33. The White Sox were dialed in at the plate, with Harry Bay (3 for 4, Run, Stolen Base), Chales Moran (2 for 4, Triple, Run), John Dobbs (2 for 5, Double, 2 Runs, Stolen Base), and Mike Grady (2 for 4, Run, 2 RBIs). Danny Shay (1 for 4, Double, Run, RBI), Bill Lange (1 for 4, Triple, RBI), and John Farrell (1 for 2, Run, Walk, Stolen Base) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Bill Phillips

National League Player of the Week
"Wahoo" Sam Crawford was dialed in at the plate last week. So much so that he was named the National League Player of the Week. The New York Giants All-Star infielder went 14 for 31 (.452 BA) with 2 Triples, 7 Runs, 5 RBIs, and 6 Stolen Bases for a slashline of .452/.452/.581 that generated 0.7 WAR. This is Crawford's 4th career PofW award.

American League Player of the Week
In earning his first career American League Player of the Week award, Cleveland Naps outfielder Doc Gessler is putting to rest the notion that his tremendous rookie season was a fluke. In picking up the weekly honor, Gessler batted .438 (14 for 32) with 2 Doubles, 5 Runs, 9 RBIs, 1 Walk, and 4 Stolen Bases for a slashline of .438/.455/.500 that resulted in 0.7 WAR.
