Nap Lajole, Cleveland Naps (How cool is to have a team named after you. I have no doubt that someday soon, Kansas City will re-name their team the Gloads).

Billy Hamilton 1888
Hall of Fame lead-off batter, base stealer and centre-fielder.
Holder of the all time record for runs scored in a season, by a massive margin, with 198 in 1894 when he hit .403 with a .522 on base percentage. The next highest major league figure ever recorded is 177. Batting statistics were inflated as pitchers were still adjusting from the movement of the pitching slab, in 1893, to its current distance. Prior to 1893 the distance being just 50 feet. Finest lead-off hitter of the 19th century and best base stealer of the 19th century. Member of the greatest outfield in baseball history the Philadelphia Phillies of 1891-1895 along with fellow Hall of Famers Ed Delahanty and Sam Thompson. In 1894 along with Hamilton's .403, Thompson hit .415 and Delahanty .404. .344 lifteime batting average with a .432 career on base percentage. League leader in runs scored 4 times, stolen bases 5 times, on base percentage 5 times, and walks 5 times. Last edited by UKBaseballfan; 04-13-2007 at 06:01 AM. |
