I'm hoping that they went in and fixed the most egregious storylines issues, at least.
1998, I hate it when you go all rational and logical on me.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Ignored...not this time. I think the new coat of paint threw people off. Me and a few others just looked at it and thought things felt off. I never tracked it down to fonts though.

Anyway the GUI is much better than the first draft. It's just not all that pleasing to me yet. But if you paint your walls a new color. It takes most people a long time before they realize the color sucks.

Just a case of new equals fun exciting and good. When it was more or less one step forward and two small steps back.

You want to "see" what I think was bothering you? Here:

Cras and some others have a problem with columns of numbers not lining up using the OOTP 13 version, and that bothers me too. But what really bothers me is the legibility of the new font.

Take a look at the size 12 lines in each display, flipping back and forth. See how the Droid Sans 'Vera' of OOTP13 is thinner and not as sharp as the Vera Sans of OOTP12?

That is the problem! And this is size 12. It gets worse with sizes 10 and 8, I am sure. No wonder my eyes were bothering me after looking at this font for long stretches at a time.

The font is an issue. I just don't think it's aesthetically pleasing to look at overall. It's more glorified spreadsheet less video game now.

Pressure Markus to fix it in the next patch.

+1

I can't even play it without the nice little workaround we have.

They do seem to ignore us a lot.

Nah, I don't think that's true (today - right now for me, that is ). "They" keep an eye on these forums, as we have seen in the past when a patch fix list contains an item that got zero acknowledgement and feedback from them in its discussion thread.

A number of considerations are at play, IMO:
  • Limited programming time and resources.
  • Their need to make business decisions accordingly.
  • Our lack of knowledge about these things and what it takes to come up with the fixes and enhancements that we request.
  • Their need, to preserve their dignity, self-esteem, and tranquility, to avoid heated debates about these things in the forums. Can you honestly tell me that you've never seen that happen here over the years?
Now, if I could not swap the font with the old version from 12 and have a reasonable workaround, well . . . ()

my league skipped OOTP 11 and OOTP 12, but i had to convert to OOTP 12 before finally converting over to OOTP 13. so i never even looked at OOTP 12's font.

i have done so now, and...i gotta agree with markus here. OOTP 13's just looks better. i was already taking notes here about what to do, how to do it, etc. just assuming that 12's was somehow better.

i believe yank'98 said something about there being a lot of lurkers out there that would be changing their's to 12. that is a pretty bold assumption. i would counter that there are apparently only six people that don't like the new font, and we have heard from all of them.

that being said, has time spent with OOTP 13's font changed softened anyone's feelings on the matter now?

I wrote someplace that I thought, somewhere in one of those patches, that they might have tweaked how the font was being handled in the interface. It might have been done very quietly because they did not want to call attention to it in the first place.

All I know is this: When all was said and done, I ended up with the array of fonts in my folder as shown below. They are all from OOTP 13, not 12, but I am reasonably sure that they were all dated in March of this year when version 13 was first released. I was unhappy then; I am happy now and I'm not changing a thing.

This patch is certainly a welcome surprise. Now I just gotta dig around and see where I backed up the original fonts and see how they look now.

I could swear the quality of the logos look better too, but I don't know if one has anything to do with the other.
