Aquino to the Bullpen
During a long awaited off day, I had a regular meeting with Mr. Stuart and Mgr. Machado. During some recent soul searching I came to the realization that I should pass off the reigns of setting the rotation and the rosters to Machado, after all that is what he was hired to do and my tinkering has only gotten us to a .500 mark. This should also help improve my relationship with Machado who, not surprisingly, hasn't been thrilled with me getting involved.
The first item on Machado's list was to move Aquino from the starting rotation into the closer role and place Jennings into the #5 slot. Needless to say this raised some eyebrows, even though Davies has been telling me since I took over that Aquino should be moved to pen. It was more surprising given that Aquino is fresh off his third pitcher of the year award. Given Aquino's popularity and status with the club, we didn't want to make this move without consulting him. I was somewhat surprised that he was very receptive to the move. So effective immediately Aquino will be the Mallards closer, moving Howell to the set up position and Jennings into the starting rotation. I have a couple solid prospects in the minors; but I don't think they will be ready to move up this season, so hopefully between Jennings and Baca we can manage the 5th spot. |

Week 10
Record: 30-32, .484, 5 GB
Position: 3rd (behind Memphis and Tampa) Avg.: .264 (9th in NL) Runs Scored: 277 (9th in NL) Runs Allowed: 266 (t-4th) Defense: .705 (3rd in NL) Fan Interest: 99 Power Ranking: (83.1) 22nd Week: (2-4) 0-1 vs.Mesa, 2-1 vs. New York, 0-2 vs. Baltimore 5/31: MES 2, MAD 0: Juarez 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, L (2-5, 2.51) Juarez continues to get no run support, in four of his losses the mallards have scored 1 or no runs and the fifth they scored 2. 6/1: MAD 5, NY 4: Baca 7 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, K, W , (1-0, 4.76) Chamings 3-4, R, 3 RBI, 2B, HR It would have been Palledo's first start in the rotation, but we gave Baca the spot start rather than move up everyone given that we are in the middle of a 12 game stretch with no days off. Howell was injured pitching in the ninth, day to day with shoulder soreness for 4 days 6/2: NY 9, MAD 8: Wilder 6 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 2 K 6/3: MAD 5, NY 4: Jennings 3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, K Martinez 3-4, R, 3 RBI, 2B 6/5: BAL 7, MAD 6: Juarez 7 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K Zhao in 1 1/3 IP, allowed 5 hits and 4 ER for the loss and the blown save In the bottom of the ninth Nishikawa hit a 2 run home run that measured 461 feet, still not enough to overcome the bullpen 6/6: BAL 12, MAD 5: Campbell 1.2 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, BB, L (4-5, 3.32) Not sure what happened today, Campbell simply blew up. Ironically we were matched up against Higgins, who was injured after 4.2 IP, he ended up being out 2 weeks with elbow soreness. Players of the Week NL - Sixto Chavez (COL) 14-25, 6 RBI AL - Jorge Sanchez (LA) 12-25, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 2 R Top 5 hitters leading the ABL in OPS while batting during innings 4-6 Scotty Hubbard, MIL, 1.266 Clyde Kelley, NAS, 1.173 Dan Rogers, SJ, 1.173 Jorge Lucero, CLE, 1.163 Eric Fox, TAM, 1.102 Marvin's Thoughts The bullpen and the on base percentage continue to give me fits. The pen has ERA of 4.94 good for 16th in the National League and our OBP is .317, 12th in National League. As I mentioned earlier in the season, my offseason moves have left me in the same position as I was at the end of last season. |

Thanks for reading. Since I started and rebooted this dynasty the bullpen has been giving me fits. I must be looking at the wrong criteria, but it is part of the learning curve.

Draft Day
Before I dive into to draft let's revisit last years top 5 selections and where they are today.
1st - Nolan Schaefer, CF, AA (21/R/1.5 of 4.5*) - .263/.374/.331, HR, 19 RBI - Is currently on the disabled list with a strained hamstring 2nd - Joe Jackson, SP, AA (22/R/.5 of 1.5*) - 3-3, 4.24 3rd - Mike Wallace, 2B, R (19/R/.5 of 1*) - 2009 - .176/.335/.261, 3 HR, 22 RBI - on June 1st he was rated 3.4* by the OSA and 1.5 by Ernie Davies 4th - Don Kane, SP, R (21/R/.5 of .5*) - 2009 - 2-5, 6.32 5th - Scott Robert MR, R (22/ R / .5 of .5*) 2009 1-3, 5.40 I dont have many good feelings about this draft class, the only one who shows much promise at this point is Schaefer, Joe Jackson my get a couple sips of coffee or at best be a back end starter for a couple of seasons, but we didnt really hit the jackpot. |
