Man, you had a couple tough breaks to end the season. I hope you can find a bat to replace Rizzo.
Best of luck next year man!!

Off Season Update January 1st, 2020 In recent year fans of the Colorado Rockies have seen their team make some spectacular trades for prospects and continually produce good young players. Usually they don't make huge splashes in free agency. That all changed this season as the Colorado Rockies announced recently the signing of 28 year old free agent CF Mike Trout to an 8 year $162 million contract. Last season the Los Angeles Angels traded him to the Oakland Athletics for 4 highly rated prospects. In total last season he hit .311/.390/.588 with 45 HR and 115 RBI along with 31 Stolen Bases. This signing is huge for the Rockies and a surprise considering they didn't really have a need in Center Field so it is likely they will try to move current CF Jose Soto. Also in another big splash the Rockies re-signed 1B Anthony Rizzo preventing him from going into free agency. Rizzo signed a 6 year deal worth $18 million per year. Rizzo was offered arbitration but denied and with the lack of options at 1B it wasn't hard for them to decide to resign one of the top 1B in the game. Also somewhat of a surprise was the Rockies offering Drew Pomeranz arbitration instead of an extension. Pomeranze refused arbitration and went into free agency, the Rockies though have plenty of talented pitching prospects but it will be a tall order to fill his shoes from last season. The Rockies will receive a 1st round supplementary pick from losing Pomeranz to the Tigers in free agency where he signed for 6 years $103 million. In other team news:

Season Preview March 31, 2020 Spring Record - W - 16 / L - 6 Overall it was a good spring for the Rockies but they were marred by 2 injuries 1 minor 1 serious. Closer Rex Brothers went out early in spring training with Elbow Tendinitis and is expected to miss the first 2 months of the season. Also superstar CF Mike Trout had a broken rib making a diving play in Center and is expected to miss 1-2 more weeks. Before we look at the starting lineups as expected the Rockies traded CF Jose Soto after signing Mike Trout. The Rockies confirmed the deal in mid february when they announced Soto was heading to the Texas Rangers in exchange for 2 minor league prospects. First and most notable was #7 overall prospect 21 year old SP Jesus Ortega who will be in AA this season. Also included was 24 year old minor league RP Bryan Wilson, reliever is a position the Rockies have an abundance of talent at even at the minor league level but you can never have too strong of a bullpen. Starting Lineups C - Stryker Trahan 1B - Anthony Rizzo 2B - Marco Hernandez SS - Troy Tulowitzki 3B - Rosell Herrera LF - Yasukazu Tsuchiya CF - Mike Trout RF - Glenn Mackie Bench 1B - Bill Decker IF/C - Jordan Pacheco SS - Steve Wallace OF - Blake McKinney Rotation RHP Bryant Reed RHP Jose Fernandez LHP Evan Anderson RHP Travis O'Bryan RHP Bill Scott Bullpen LHP Jack Jackson RHP Felix Encarnacion RHP Andres Garcia RHP Wu-Sheng Mar RHP Robert Whalen RHP Jose Suarez Closer Antonio Baez Consensus Season Prediction - W - 90 / L - 67

That's why they signed him May 1st, 2020 W - 15 / L - 6 / .5 Game Lead ![]() The Rockies shocked the big leagues by signing CF Mike Trout in the offseason and we are seeing why they did as they 28 year old won the NL batter of the month award as he hit .383/.472/.800 7 HR 16 RBI. The Rockies pitchers are also doing well, rookie SP Bill "Big Red" Scott is getting roughed a bit but that would be expected and even with that the Rockies pitchers have the 2nd best overall ERA in the NL with a 3.13 ERA. Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - CF Mike Trout - .383/.472/.800 7 HR 16 RBI MLB Pitcher - SP Evan Anderson - 3-1 2.27 ERA 0.79 WHIP AAA Hitter - RF Charlie Green - .357/.418/.714 7 HR 22 RBI AAA Pitcher - SP Carlos Peterson - 1-1 3.66 ERA 1.38 WHIP AA Hitter - RF Jesus Mendez - .358/.470/.687 6 HR 17 RBI AA Pitcher - SP Gilberto Moran - 1-1 1.91 ERA 0.88 WHIP SIDENOTE - Has anyone ever seen a player's defensive rating drop to 0 from 10. Troy Tulowitzki's defensive rating at SS went from 10--0 on the player development report. |

He had a broken kneecap July of last season, I have monthly player scouting updates on and it only just happened one month into this season and not after spring training. It is possible that did it though since his speed dropped to 2 overall also. Really a bummer

The West is on Fire June 1st, 2020 W - 35 / L - 15 / 2 Game Lead ![]() Some of you might be wondering who the player in the old time cracker jack style card is. That ladies and gentlemen is Babe Adams of the 1920 Pittsburgh Pirates. Why would we lead into this story with his playing card? Last season Rockies SP Evan Anderson in his 1st full season in the majors led the big leagues in K/BB ratio, this year he is absolutely blowing them away. Anderson is 4-1 on the season with a 3.97 ERA but the amazing statistics we want to point out is this, Anderson has pitched 65.2 innings this season with 76 strikeouts good for 5th in the league but in those 65.2 innings he has issued 3..... 3 WALKS!!. Anderson has a 0.41 BB/9 ratio and a 25.33 K/BB ratio, the next closest player? Teammate Jose Fernandez @ 8.11 K/BB. Now for as to why we showed Babe Adams... he owns the major league record for least walks in a season (per 250 innings) @ 18 walks in a season back in 1920. With other intriguing the National League West is by far the best division in the big leagues right now as the division looks like this currently: Rockies - 35-15 Diamondbacks - 33-17 Dodgers - 32-18 Giants - 22-28 Padres - 22-28 In other news during the month the Rockies had 2 players go on the DL with injuries, both of them Relievers. Felix Encarnacion and Jack Jackson went on the DL. Encarnacion has returned to the team while Jackson was sent back down to AAA when his stint was done. This move was done as the Rockies moved rookie SP Bill Scott to the bullpen after some stamina issues started to show in his game, in his place the Rockies promoted SP Carlos Peterson from AAA. One last piece of news for the Rockies was a trade made this month. The Rockies sent RP Robert Whalen who had a 5.81 ERA this season to the Toronto Blue Jays for 21 year old minor league RP Bill Crawford. Crawford had a 3.29 ERA in AA for the Blue Jays. Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - LF Yasukazu Tsuchiya - .351/.431/.711 11 HR 33 RBI MLB Pitcher - RP Jose Suarez - 19.0 IP 2.37 ERA 1.16 WHIP AAA Hitter - RF Rick Clark - .340/.465/.505 2 HR 16 RBI AAA Pitcher - SP Jesus Ortega - 2-0 2.49 ERA 1.20 WHIP AA Hitter - RF Aubrey Carney - .309/.398/.536 5 HR 23 RBI AA Pitcher - RP Brandon Wallace - 25.1 IP 3.55 ERA 1.14 WHIP |

2020 First Year Player's Draft June 6th, 2020 Round 1 - The Rockies first round pick this season was 20 year old 3B Rick "Cougar" Ames out of Georgetown University in Washington DC. Ames is a great fielding 3B with speed to spare. This season he hit .335/.426/.554 with 10 HR and 63 RBI in 61 games plus 31 stolen bases and 80 runs scored. His swing is so natural they expect him to develop into a top of the order kind of player. Round 1 Supplemental pick - The Rockies received a supplemental pick when SP Drew Pomeranz left in the offseason for free agency and signed with another team. They used this pick on RP Vicente Cruz out of Scottsdale Community College. Cruz has been a baseball rat all his life and pitched 74.1 innings this season with a 2.18 ERA and a WHIP of just 1.05 Round 2 - The Rockies 2nd round pick was used on 21 year old 1B Antonio Guevara out of Texas A&M where he hit .314/.361/.533 with 14 HR and 53 RBI this season in 56 games. He projects to be a great fielder with average hitting and good power for a first baseman. Round 3 - The 3rd round pick for the Rockies was 20 year old CF Phil Townsley out of Boston College. Townsley plays all 3 outfield positions well and this season hit .295/.354/.512 with 10 HR and 46 RBI. Round 4 - The Rockies 4th round pick was 20 year old SP Sonny Powers out of Duke University. Powers will probably end up being a reliever in as a pro due to lack of pitches. He was 9-6 this year with a 3.77 ERA but had a 1.38 WHIP. |

Record pace through June July 1st, 2020 W - 53 / L - 19 / 6 Game Lead The Rockies had their best month of the season in June with an 18-4 record and have a .736 winning percentage this season which if they were to finish at that level it would be the highest winning percentage since the 1902 Pirates who went 103-36. The month wasn't without it's bad though as on June 16th Rockies SP Jose Fernandez who is 9-1 with a 2.89 ERA this season and was voted to the All-Star Game went on the 60 day DL with a torn labrum and is expected to miss 2-3 months. The Rockies have promoted SP Claudio Martinez for the time being. The Rockies though sent 6 players to the All-Star game this year:
Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - LF Yasukazu Tsuchiya - .371/.408/.764 11 HR 27 RBI MLB Pitcher - SP Claudio Martinez - 2-0 1.84 ERA 0.75 WHIP AAA Hitter - RF Rick Clark - .219/.375/.344 3 HR 19 RBI AAA Pitcher - RP Yakamochi Ishida - 10. IP 0.00 ERA 1.00 WHIP AA Hitter - RF Aubrey Carney - .301/.375/.581 5 HR 25 RBI AA Pitcher - RP Angel Lezama - 19.2 IP 1.83 WHIP 1.02 WHIP |

Rockies lighting it up August 1st, 2020 W - 72 / L - 29 / 10 Game Lead ![]() You really do have to feel bad for the Everyone in the National League West, all the teams are above .500 with the Giants in last place in the division with a record of 52-46 yet they sit 18.5 games back of the Rockies in the division. There are only 2 teams outside of the NL west with a better record than the last place Giants yet their playoff chances are already dashed more than likely. The Rockies had a decent month with a 19-10 record although they have lost Mike Trout to the DL again for 4 weeks with a fractured rib. The Rockies also made one move before the trade deadline passed as on July 3rd they traded RP Braden Shipley (3-6 6.18 ERA in AAA this year), RP Wu-Sheng Mar (17.1 IP 2.08 ERA) and 24 year old minor league SP Gilberto Moran (7-3 3.03 ERA in AA) to the Philadelphia Phillies for 20 year old minor league SS Peter Paul who was ranked the #63 prospect this season. Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - RF Glenn Mackie - .350/.404/.767 11 HR 28 RBI MLB Pitcher - SP Evan Anderson - 3-1 2.79 ERA 1.14 WHIP AAA Hitter - RF CHarlie Green - .372/.449/.679 6 HR 18 RBI AAA Pitcher - SP Carlos Garcia - 2-2 2.79 ERA 1.03 WHIP AA Hitter - RF Jesus Mendez - .309/.385/.469 3 HR 19 RBI AA Pitcher - RP Joel Payamps - 10.0 IP 0.90 ERA 0.70 WHIP |

All but wrapped up September 1st, 2020 W - 92 / L - 35 / 17 Game Lead Could the Rockies be having one of the best seasons ever seen? They sit 17 games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers who haves the 3rd best record in the majors and 2nd best in the National League at 72-52. August's wins can be attributed to having 4 players with OPS's over 1.000. The Rockies sit 3 wins short of 60 games over 500 which is just ridiculous. Take a look at their win totals by month:
Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - C Stryker Trahan - .370/.449/.652 7 HR 22 RBI (22 Runs scored) MLB Pitcher - RP Rex Brothers - 16.1 IP 1.10 ERA 1.10 WHIP AAA Hitter - 2B Rove Holloway - .347/.385/.446 1 HR 12 RBI (21 Runs scored) AAA Pitcher - RP Bill Crawford - 12.0 IP 0.75 ERA 1.00 WHIP AA Hitter - SS Emerson Jimenez - .318/.403/.467 0 HR 13 RBI AA Pitcher - SP Burt Allen - 3-0 1.71 ERA 0.85 WHIP |

Season In Review October 6th, 2020 W - 114 / L - 42 What a year it was for the Colorado Rockies, in a season shorter than in years past due to MLB rule changes a few years ago they still came within 2 games of matching the highest win total ever set in the majors of 116 last done by the 2001 Seattle Mariners. As they head into the playoffs with by far the best record in the majors let's look at the teams that will try to keep them from returning to the World Series after a 1 year absence. Divisional Series - Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres Game 1 of this series was a thriller as the Rockies, up 2-1 in the 8th inning gave up a 2 run double to Padres catcher Reese McGuire putting the Padres up 3-2. The Padres sent out their closer James Powell but he was ineffective as the Rockies got back to back RBI singles from Mike Trout and Yasukazu Tsuchiya to complete a comeback victory in game 1.![]() Game 1 - Colorado Wins 4 - 3 Game 2 - Colorado Wins 4-3 Game 2 saw SP Travis O'Bryan pitch a wonderful game except for the 3rd inning when he gave up 3 runs on a home run by J. Riley. The Rockies battled back though as they got back to back doubles from Trout and Decker to score 3 and put them back on top for the rest of the game.Game 3 - Colorado Wins 4-3 Notice a them for the series? The third game of the series was decided by the same score as the other 2 game but this time the Rockies were not fighting from behind as they led the whole game. The Rockies will move onto the NLCS to face the Philadelphia Phillies |

NLCS - Colorado Rockies vs. Philadelphia Phillies Game 1 between the Rockies and Phillies was a pitchers duel early as the Phillies were up 2-1 in the 7th when they put in RP Rauldison Rodriguez to pitch. The results were not what they wanted as he gave up 2 home runs in the inning, a 2 run home run to 3B Rosell Herrera and a solo shot to 1B Anthony Rizzo to put the Rockies up 4-2. CF Mike Trout added a solo shot in the 8th to make the final score 5-2.![]() Game 1 - Colorado Wins 5-2 Game 2 - Colorado Wins 5-2 The Rockies jumped out early in this game with a 3 run 2nd inning and also added 2 more in the 5th, all runs came off former Rockies pitcher Ryan Verdugo. SP Travis O'Bryan for the Rockies pitched well going 7 innings and giving up 2 runs on 4 hits.Game 3 - Philadelphia wins 7-3 Game 3 brought the series to Philadelphia where the Phillies took advantage of rookie SP Claudio Peterson and the home field advantage. They chased peterson in just 2.1 innings after scoring 7 runs on 6 hits. The Rockies bullpen gave up just 2 hits the rest of the way but it wasn't enough as the only offense the Rockies could get was a 3 run home run by RF Glenn Mackie in the 9th inning.Game 4 - Colorado Wins 4-3 Game 4 of the series saw a pitching duel through the first 5 innings until the Phillies finally got to Rockies SP Jose Fernandez in the 6th with 3 runs in the inning but the Rockies were able to come right back and score 2 in the 7th and 1 more in the 8th to tie the game and sent it to extra innings. Nothing happened in the 10th but the Rockies RF Glenn Mackie led off the 11th with a solo home run and Jose Suarez was able to pitch a perfect 11th to put the Rockies up 3 games to 1.Game 5 - Philadelphia Wins 3-2 Game 6 saw SP Bryant Reed and SP Shelby Miller face off and both pitched well each going 7 innings and giving up 2 runs. The Bullpens made the difference in this one as the Phillies relievers were solid giving up just 2 hits. Rockies RP Rex Brothers gave up just 1 hit but it was a run scoring double that turned out to be the difference in the game.Game 6 - Colorado Wins 4-2 Game 6 sent the series back to Colorado where the Rockies were up 2-1 going into the 9th but were unable to put the Phillies away as they were able to score one and tie it at 2. The tie didn't last long though as with 1 on and nobody out in the bottom of the 9th the Rockies superstar offseason acquisition CF Mike Trout blasted a 2 run HR off Addison Reed to send the Rockies back to the World Series where they will face the Minnesota Twins.

World Series - Colorado Rockies VS. Minnesota Twins Game 1 of the World Series was in Colorado thanks to the NL winning the all star game but the Rockies offense couldn't get anything going as they managed just 3 hits off SP Stephen McCray. The Twins took this one easily to win game 1.![]() Game 1 - Minnesota wins 3-0 Game 2 - Colorado wins 6-5 Game 2 was looking like another rough one for the Rockies as they went down 5-1 after just 4 innings as the Twins offense consistently was working. The Rockies finally got it going on offense though as in the bottom of the 5th innings with RP Jake Thompson pitching for Minnesota they got a 3 run HR from RF Glenn Mackie and a 2 run HR from PH Steve Wallace to go ahead 6-5. The bullpen took care of it the rest of the way and the teams tied the series at 1 a piece.Game 3 - Colorado wins 6-5 It was another late inning that saved the Rockies in Game 3 as they were down 4-2 heading into the top of the 8th when they got 2 run Home Runs from 3B Rosell Herrera and CF Mike Trout to put them up 6-4. The Twins would score one in the bottom of the 9th before Antonio Baez shut down the late rally to put the Rockies up 2 games to 1.Game 4 - Colorado Wins 7-1 SP Travis O'Bryan continued his excellent playoffs as he pitched a scoreless game lowering his playoff ERA to 1.07 this season and the Rockies offense supported him with 13 hits including 5 doubles and a GRAND SLAM from CF Mike Trout. Game 4 was an easy win for the Rockies as they went up 3 games to 1.Game 5 - Minnesota Wins 1-0 Twins SP Stephen McCray had a fantastic outing for the twins in this game as he went 7 innings giving up no runs on 6 hits plus 3 walks. The Bullpen for Minnesota didn't give up a hit the rest of the way either as the Twins took this one 1-0 to make the series 3 games to 2 in favor of Colorado.Game 6 - Colorado wins 8-7 (11 innings) Game 6 brought the series back to Colorado and it was an exciting game as the Rockies were up 4-1 early after the 3rd inning before the Twins offense went on a tear scoring 5 runs in the top of the 4th to make it 6-4 Minnesota. The Rockies battled back though by tying it in the 6th and going up 7-6 in the 7th. A Solo home run in the 8th though for the Twins tied it up again. Neither team could do anything in the 9th sending this game to extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th though the Rockies got things going as SS Troy Tulowitzki led off with a single on the first pitch he saw. 1 out later 3B Rosell Herrera hit a double but could not score Tulo on the hit as they held him at 3rd. C Stryker Trahan was intentionally walked to load the bases and hope for the force out but Mike Trout was patient at the plate as he was walked on 5 pitches and the winning run crossed the plate to give the Rockies the championship!!!

Offseason update #1 January 1st, 2021 Before we get into the details of what has changed with the Rockies this offseason we want to bring attention to the Rockies signing SS Troy Tulowitzki to a 2 year extension at $8,000,000 per season. While he has digressed and is no longer the fielder he was and has lost speed this contract will likely be his last, at 36 years old "Tulo" wants to retire a Rockie and the Rockies want it to be that way too. Tulowitzki has been one of the most important players in franchise history along with Todd Helton. While it will remain to be seen if he will start of if Steve Wallace will start he will be sticking around at least a couple more years. Arbitration
Extensions
Trade - The Rockies were offered a trade package by multiple teams but one caught their eye. The Rockies completed a trade with the Chicago Cubs that sent 28 year old minor league 3B Gioskar Amaya to Chicago. In return the Rockies got 34 year old RP Charlie Furbush who has a career 3.31 ERA. The centerpiece for the Rockies though was 23 year old minor league RP Conan Cosgrove who could turn out to be an excellent closer one day. In 2 minor league seasons across 3 levels he has a 2.61 ERA. In other offseason new the New York Yankees have been very busy spending millions upon millions of dollars. Normally we don't cover other teams signings but just take a look at these signings. The signing are very surprising they signed LF Ryan Braun for so much considering they had an outfielder get Rookie of the Year last season and have repeat MVP Li-Chi Ti in LF as well.
