July 16 Yanks at Tigers

A twin bill and as Ernie used to say, 'Two for the price of One."

Veach and Burns made the A's pay when their strategy was to walk Ty Cobb (3 times) as the Georgia Peach scored twice as collectively the two netted three ribbies. Crawford, batting 4th, pick up an rbi, too.

Hot Bat

Jack Barry of the Red Sox is wielding one of the hottest bats in July as his average has skyrocketed over the past 2 weeks, plus. A mere 2 K's over the past 61 AB's. Old school stats.

Six in the first is more than enough. Tigers cruise to a W behind Boland.

Detroit can only manage a split in the 4 game set and will now head to the East Coast to take on NY, Bos, Philly, Was, and then on to Chi and Cle as they have a huge road trip staring them in the face.

Detroit starts the long road trip in New York on the right foot as they handle the Yanks in a tight one.

Hartzell used the ultimate offensive weapon, the grand slam, to even the series at one apiece.

Aug. 1 Standings

The White Sox lost 3 in a row to close out the month of July, just their second losing streak of more than 2 games all year (the Tigers beat them 3 in a row and the Red Sox added one game). Their lead trimmed to 8 1/2 it certainly is not a lock on the pennant yet realistically the Tigers may be the only team capable of making up that much ground. But, with two months to go a lot can happen....and probably will.

King Cole made his first appearance of the season for the Yanks and he tossed 160 pitches good for a 1 run lead into the 9th. First batter retired and with a soft grounder to 2nd it looked as if he'd be winning that game for NY. Instead Paddy Bauman committed his 4th error of the season keeping the Tiger hopes alive. Here's how the top of the 9th played out.

I am enjoying following your replay. I love the style of play that this era produced. The teams made things happen.
