Preseason Predictions

May 7th 1882 Update

One of the two expansion teams is doing well. Baltimore is being led by rookie Bill Geiss. Louisville, on the other hand, is 0-11 out of the gate.
They hope not to repeat what the Washington Nationals did in 1872. Worcester is struggling once again, the only bright spots thus far are
Deacon White hitting .400 and a lone Frank Mountain shut out.

June 4th 1882 Update

Cleveland takes the top spot in the American League, after the Athletics stumbled. The two expansion teams have dropped. Orioles (3-12) and Louisville (3-12).
Worcester seemed to come to life then dropped 9 of 10. Over in the National League, all the teams are bunched within 5 games except for Pittsburgh.

June 30th 1882 Update

The Leagues' best hitter, Pete Browning of the Louisville Eclipse, is out for 4 weeks with a sprained ankle. The St Louis Brown Stockings wheeled off 10 straight wins and now lead the American League by 3 games over Cleveland.
Over in the National League it is anyone's ball game. Worcester's season is not much better, expansion team Baltimore is doing better than us.

Louisville's pitcher Frank Heifer is off to a very terrible season, He has not won a game so far this season (0-30, 6.38 era). In the National League, nothing has changed much.
Providence still leads by a few games, but the lead is spreading out. The American League features the St Louis Stockings show with Philadelphia not so far behind.

We have not one but two pennant chases going on. St Louis is holding on to their slim 3.5 game lead over Philly. While over in the National League, Providence is pulling away from
Troy and New York thanks to their 39-12 record in the second half of the season. Worcester is down for the count this season.

This season will be the first that will feature teams playing each team in their respective leagues. American League teams will play each other and will be the same in the National League.
We will play a 112 game schedule and will be completed around mid August. Teams that played poorly last season are make a contest this year.

American League

Columbus tries to stay in the hunt. Cleveland is being led by Larry Corcoran (11-2). Meanwhile it appears that the
Buckeyes have turned the corner with veterans Ed Morris (8-5) and Frank Mountain (9-4) and a surprise with rookie
John Clarkson (8-5). But St Louis and Baltimore are making it a close race.
