NY METS 14
CIN Reds 0
Great American Ballpark

So much happened here that they could not put it in the recap.
Very simple.
Thor swung Stormbreaker and embarrassed the Reds.
He pitches a complete game shut-out with 13 strikeouts to his credit.
The Mets lineup overmatched Reds pitching in this one.
CIN even brought in position players to pitch this game and the funny thing is that they didn't give up any earned runs late.
HRs: Gary Sanchez (4), Jose Altuve (6), Nolan Arenado (4) and yes, Noah Syndergaard (1).
Altuve went 4-5 with everyone else in the lineup getting a hit.
It was an ugly rainy night at the ballpark and the Reds got hit by Thor's lightning.
Clayton Kershaw will pitch the rubber game of this 3-game set tomorrow.

I guess the cheating AI took the day off for this game.

NY METS 2
CIN Reds 3
Great American Ballpark

Of all the teams we lose our first series to, the CIN Reds take the three game set.
Ken Giles gives up an 8th inning HR to CIN Joey Votto with a runner on base. (AI CHEATS!)
We had a chance to turn a double play twice in that inning, but all I got was two fielder's choices. (AI CHEATS!!)
Clayton Kershaw goes 7 innings and gives up 1 run on 5 hits.
Ken Giles takes the loss.
Buster Posey hit his 5th HR of the year.
He and Freddie Freeman had 2 hits today.
This loss stings and now we have to wait for Friday to start a 3-game set with the Phillies.

Series Preview: PHI Phillies @ Citizens Bank Park (3-Games)

We once again travel to the "city of brotherly love" for a 3-game set with Philly.
They can play hard and after losing our 1st series of the year to the lousy Reds, we need to slam dunk this team.
Rhys Hoskins, who looks like an all-star, will be the guy to watch at the plate.
Jake Arrieta and Jerad Eickhoff are the guys to watch on the mound.
We need to win this series to show the MLB that we ARE the best team in baseball.
Strasburg, Sale and Kluber are the aces for the weekend.

NY METS 9
PHI Phillies 1
Citizens Bank Park

We put a hurting on PHI for this game.
Stephen Strasburg was marvelous, going 6 and giving up 1 run on 2 hits with 9 strikeouts.
Mike Trout hit his 12th HR on the year, a Grand Slam in the 5th.
Aaron Judge hit 2 HRs, his 12th and 13th.
Even Gary Sanchez got into the act, hitting his 5th HR on the year.
Judge, Buster Posey and Bryce Harper had 2 hits tonight.
Nolan Arenado went 0-5.
I'm benching him for a while.

NY METS 4
PHI Phillies 3
Citizens Bank Park
(10 innings)

We needed some late inning heroics and we got it in the form of an Aaron Judge HR in the 9th, his 14th.
Daniel Murphy hit his 1st HR of the year and Mike Trout, his 13th.
It seems that there is a HR battle brewing between Trout and Judge.
Good!
Chris Sale was ok in this game, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits thru 6 innings of work.
Luis Severino did get the win and Aroldis Chapman the save, their 2nd and 6th respectively.
We win the series over the Phillies and Corey Kluber will try to get us the sweep tomorrow afternoon.

NY METS 2
PHI Phillies 1
Citizens Bank Park

The NY Mets sweep the PHI Phillies behind a PH-HR by Charlie Blackmon, his 2nd.
Corey Kluber went 6 innings and gives up 1 run on 6 hits.
He sent 8 batters back to the dugout.
The bullpen combined to close the game out with Andrew Miller getting his 1st save of the year thanks to a game ending double-play.
PHI out-hit the Mets by 8-3, but the HR by Blackmon was the difference today.
The TOR Blue Jays come into town for a short 2-game series after an off-day tomorrow.

This Week in Baseball---NY METS

The Mets end the road-trip 4-2 as we lose a series to the CIN Reds, but we do sweep the PHI Phillies.
Our hitting has cooled off a little, but the pitching just keeps on going.
We only play five games this week as we have off-days on Monday and Thursday.

Here is what's going on:
ALE: TOR still holds 1st place in this division. The BAL Orioles are on a 7-game losing streak.
ALC: The CLE Indians have won 5 in a row and are now only 1 GB of the Twins.
ALW: The Rangers and Angels continue to flip-flop in the AL West.
NLE: The Mets lead! WAS has dropped 7 in a row and PHI has also lost 4 games straight.
NLC: A 5-game losing streak has dropped the Pirates out of first place, so the Cubs retake possession of the division with STL behind them. MIL trying to get back into it with a 4-game win streak.
NLW: The ARZ Diamondbacks have won 6 straight and now hold on to this division. The LAD and SD staying close. COL is on a 7-game skid.

Players of the Week (TSN):
CLE Jason Kipnis
ATL Ozzie Albies

Series Preview: TOR Blue Jays @ Citi Field (2-Games)

A big two game set versus the Blue Jays is in order.
They are in 1st place in the AL East and I know that they want to prove that they are the best in the Majors.
Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson are the guys to watch at the plate.
Im pretty sure Josh wonders why he wasn't chosen for my Mets team at the start of the season, so he might have a chip on his shoulder.
Marcus Stroman is the ace and he can pitch.
It will be Syndergaard and Kershaw for this short series.

TOR Blue Jays 0
NY METS 10
Citi Field

Noah Syndergaard was pretty darn good, allowing no runs on 4 hits.
It was the lineup that did the job today.
Even though TOR Aaron Sanchez pitched pretty well against the Mets, the bullpen unraveled the rest of the game.
Bryce Harper was the go-to guy.
He went 2-3 including a HR, his 7th.
Nolan Arenado came off the bench and hit his 5th HR of the year.
A big pinch-hit in the 8th to put the game away.
It was a complete win.
One that we hope to duplicate tomorrow afternoon.

The Mets take both games over the Blue Jays.
Another good outing by Clayton Kershaw, who goes 7.1 and gives up 1 run on 5 hits.
Gary Sanchez went 2-4 and hit his 6th HR of the season, while Jose Altuve also went 2-4 and he hit his 7th HR on the year.
Francisco Lindor, Bryce Harper and Mike Trout got 2 hits today as well.
Everyone in the lineup did get at least one hit.
We get the day off tomorrow before we take on a sizzling D-Backs team over the weekend.
A very big series coming up.

Series Preview: ARZ Diamondbacks @ Citi Field (3-Games)

We are 33-9 and they are 32-11.
The D-Backs are riding a 9-game winning streak coming into the Big Apple.
I don't know when the last time two 30-win teams met this early in the season, but we have a very big series this weekend.
Paul Goldschmidt is only batting .273, so the hitting is not there.
But the pitching is.
Zack Greinke, Robbie Ray and Taijuan Walker are the guys that are bringing this team up.
The bullpen is pretty good too.
Archie Bradley leads the substitutes.
I think we will have a real fight on our hands this weekend.
Strasburg, Sale and Kluber will be the guys to put the D-Backs to bed.

ARZ Diamondbacks 2
NY METS 6
Citi Field

Happy Birthday to Me!
I turned 49 years old today and a win would be a nice present.
Stephen Strasburg goes 7 and gives up 2 runs on 4 hits with 12 strikeouts.
He was on his game today.
Bryce Harper belted his 8th HR of the year and Francisco Lindor hit his 4th of the year.
A big insurance 3-run HR in the 8th.
He and Harper had 2 hits tonight to lead the Mets.
We snap ARZ's 9-game winnning streak.

NY METS 1

ARZ Zack Greinke pretty much shut us down in this one.
Chris Sale was just not effective.
He went 6 and gave up 3 runs on 7 hits with only 4 strikeouts.
Where is this strikeout king that I thought I had?
Bryce Harper did hit his 9th HR of the year and had 2 hits tonight.
It will be up to Corey Kluber to get us the rubber game win tomorrow afternoon.

With HRs by Bryce Harper (10), Jose Altuve (8), Freddie Freeman (6) and Buster Posey (6), the Mets take a big series over the D-Backs.
Corey Kluber did give up 3 runs on 5 hits, but with 7 strikeouts, he was able to get the win.
The bullpen closed the game out.
Aaron Judge joined up with Freeman, Posey and Altuve to get 2 hits today.
Even though ARZ had been hot lately, we cooled them off this weekend.
Next up: the "Boys from South Beach" pay us a visit.

This Week in Baseball---NY METS

I shook the lineup for this week to see if we can improve a little.
As good as we are, we are 9th in the NL in hits.
Good thing we have pitching, which is pretty much the main reason we have 35 wins at this stage of the year.
We also cant steal a base to save our lives as we have no speed on the base-paths.
But, we are rolling along.
