1904 Draft Top 100
This draft is much more high school heavy than the previous one. I'm guessing this is due to most players spending 3 years in college (1903 heavy college) and 4 years in high school (1904 heavy high school). Hopefully this will all balance out after a few cycles.
Aiden Shelton is the top draft prospect. He was the top HS player in Oregon in 1901 and has been the best hitting CF in the league for three years. The top college draftee is Jonathan Kinnunen, a righty out of UC Santa Barbara. |

1904 MLB Award Winners
AL MVP: Celio Cabedo, RHP, Minnesota Twins - 9.2 WAR, 1.72 FIP, 65 FIP-, 3.8 K/BB
NL MVP: J.P. 1904 Free Agency
Celio Cabedo is clearly the top Free Agent this year - a future Hall of Famer looking for a place to finish his career. It would be strange not seeing him in a Twins uniform and is somewhat disappointing they weren't able to extend his contract. Steve Gardiner exercised his contract opt-out and rejected the Brewers qualifying offer to become a free agent again. It was quite short-sighted of the Brewers to allow him to have a contract where he could leave after only one year.

1904 Unsigned Draftees
Starting to get some things figured out with the database files and how to find these players. The high school players who are too old to play in the next year come draft time are released by their teams if they don't sign. Those who are not yet too old will stay on their teams and then return to the draft the next year, which does not follow reality. If a high school player does not sign in the draft they would either have to go to college until they are a junior or 21 or go to a junior college.
In my case, the max high school age is 18. The players who do not sign in the draft and turn 19 before the season starts will be released in the offseason. The players who turn 19 after the season starts will be allowed to play another year. I found 119 players coming out of high school that didn't sign in the draft but only manually moved the top 20. They were all placed in colleges that both needed players and are close to their hometown. Last edited by stealofhome; 01-25-2019 at 10:29 PM. |

1904 Free Agency Summary
Celio Cabedo went to the Red Sox, which makes me sad. The Brewers were listed as one of his interested teams, but they may not have had enough money to get him. They still have their core of Duford, De Los Santos, Sloan, and Bayerle.

1905 Top 100 Prospects
We continue the trend of the top draftee from the previous year taking over the first spot on the Top 100 list. The players, especially from college, are moving to the big leagues so fast that they become ineligible for the list the following year.

1905 Draft Top 100
The top draft prospect in 1905 is Eric Olena, a left-handed right fielder from Pepperdine. The top high schooler is Levi Bryant, best known in Texas for a walk-off grand slam in 1903. This will be Deshawn Wetherspoon's third draft - maybe he'll sign this time.
