The sight of this guy, Brett Phillips, "flying" around the outfield in pure and utter joy is an image that I will long remember. I usually frown on excessive celebratory displays but this moment was so absolutely spontaneous and innocuous that it simply transcends such considerations.

Is there a rule of only one error being charged per extra base? If so then perhaps the official scorer is evaluating this as Arozarena would have made third without the OF error. The OF error would have allowed him to score had he not fallen. But the fact is he did fall and thus the C error, not the OF error, allowed him to score.
Yet is seems unfair to charge the C instead of the OF since the C had nothing to do with Arozarena falling. Don't know. |

I also didn't care about Bregman carrying the bat to first base. Or Soto, then, carrying the bat to first base. Or the Nationals' "driving celebration" or the Dodgers' bubble machine. Or Ozuna's selfie celebration. I didn't mind TO celebratinging on the Dallas Star. Or him getting knocked on his [keester] trying to do it again. I didn't mind Barry Sanders handing the ball to the ref. Or the Icky Shuffle. Whatever. |

I feel bad for Jansen, who seemed to have finally found his groove. Tough bottom of the ninth:
K broken bat bloop hit fly out tough/tight walk to Arozarena bloop hit with (what should have been scored as) two errors to lose the game At any rate, if the Dodgers analytics machine has a setting for number of pitching changes - like OOTP has a 0-200 setting for Development Randomness - I'm pretty sure Roberts likes to set it at 200. Will be interesting to see how the snakebitten-in-the-postseason Dodgers rebound from that loss. |

Jansen said no hard hits, he did his job. So he's not looking for sympathy. Bad luck and errors met and the Rays won.

Very true. However, had he been in position to backup home plate, he likely would've been more directly behind home plate, somewhat shaded to the third base side to align with where the throw from the Muncy was coming, and would not have been anywhere near where the ball actually ended up (much more towards the 1st base side of behind-the-plate foul territory) after deflecting off of Smiths' glove... Doubtful his failure to back up on the play made a difference.

Baseball at *one* my time today (summer time ended here). I'll totally not forget that.
I'll totally not forget that. Guys, I'm probably joining in the fourth inning.

Rough: Fox just did a retrospective on Buckner's famous error (was it an official error, come to think of it, or just a misplay?) and, right after it ended, put the two erring Dodgers of last night on the screen.
Wow, Glasnow is "glass now" in the postseason.
