Galvin BFN 6.5 At one point Chicago was running away from the pack with a 7 game lead over the 2nd place team. Providence came from what seem like nowhere and overtook Chicago. Then Buffalo came back from the dead and overtook Providence For most of the season Chicago's main threat was Detroit. Come August Detroit started to fade. On August 4th, Chicago had a 7 game lead over both Detroit and Providence. On Sep 22nd, Providence overtook Chicago for first place. Both teams traded places a couple of times till Sep 30th. On the last day of the season Chicago wrapped up first place by beating last place Worchester 5-2. Providence was set for 2nd place and series matchup with Chicago. Except Buffalo had other plans. With the focus on Chicago and Providence, Buffalo had been overlooked. They beat Providence 6-2 behind Ed Swartwood's 7th home run. Buffalo finished with 1 less game won than Providence but made the playoffs due to a winning pctg of .578 to Providence .576. With no more regular season games allowed after Sep 3oth, Providence was left out in the cold. One bright spot for Providence was that on June 18th Bobby Mathews threw the league's 2nd no-hitter for Providence. Last edited by BaseballMan; 05-21-2023 at 01:47 PM. |

The largest share of the credit belongs to Buffalo starter Blondie Purcell, who threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball in the win. A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Jack Rowe was at the plate when Buffalo scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Bisons to go in front, 4-3. "I'll be honest," said Purcell. Larry Corcoran went 4-0 during the series.
Would like to pose series totals but i dont know of an easy way. I didn't see where the game would let you open it in a browser. Well now its on to 1882 and the debut of the American Association. Simming might take a little longer for the 1882-1892 seasons. From 1893-1900 it might be a little faster. |

1882 looked like it was going to be the year the Chicago White Stockings dynasty came crashing down as they opened the season at 0-6.
Then proceeded to go 20-6 and its back to business as usual. Current standings. Code:

1882 was a wild one in the Natioanl League.
Five different teams were in first place at one time or another. Buffalo, Chicago, Cleveland, Providence and Boston all took turns at 1st place. Larry Cochrane threw a no hitter against Detroit making 3 years in row a no hitter was thrown. Last 2 years against Detroit. On the bad side were the Orioles who managed a 12-62 record in the American Association's first year. So far the worst record in history of the AA and NL. They also had the worst team batting avg at .200 Oh i almost forgot the Orioles also had a 20 game losing streak. Last edited by BaseballMan; 05-29-2023 at 02:48 PM. |

The Bisons topped the Pittsburgh Alleghenys 10-3 at Exposition Park today to claim the World Championship Series crown. "Nobody can take this away from us, not ever," said series MVP and first baseman Dan Brouthers after his club had sealed the victory. "We worked hard and we accomplished our goal." The atmosphere was electric as the newly-crowned champs stormed the field at the conclusion of the game. Fans cheered, gloves flew in the air, high fives and hugs were the order of the day. "From day one of spring training, I could see it in their eyes," said Buffalo manager Jim O'Rourke. "The players had that look of intensity, of hunger, of a desire to accomplish something great, and today they did that. They're champions of the world." The Bisons took the series 4-0. Latest standings.
Baltimore is having a surprising turn around. Pittsburgh is also having a good season. I'll have to read up on the 1883 Alleghenys. Chicago may not be as bad as bad as theri record. They are still loaded with good players and the stats aren't terrible like the 1882 Orioles. They just seem to lose a ton of close games. Old Hoss Radbourn looks like he will be ready to go for 59 wins in 1884. I don't think i've ever seen him get to 59 before. Should have better chance since i'm using actual starters. Speaking of using actual starters is working very well. Only time i dont use the real starter is if a player is injured. Hasn't happened too often. It also helps me to narrow down when a pitcher was with a team. Cant start a game if your not on the team. For playoffs i find the computer will try and pick a pitcher thats started 4 games on the year over a pitcher thats started 20. So i just decided to 30 with how many pitchers that have started 10 games. Most wins being top of rotation and so on. If anyone wants more info on a player or how i run my league, i will share whatever i have that would be useful. Only fair since the communnity has helped me a lot.
