Jacob Lopez

Lopez was acquired by the Rays from the Giants for Joe McCarthy in 2019. He missed all of 2022 because of Tommy John surgery, but he sped from Double-A to the majors in 2023. Scouting Report: An ideal outcome for Lopez is for him to become the Rays' next Ryan Yarbrough. - Baseball America

Here's one I missed in the 2023 debuts. He's got a decent picture to work with now.

Lazaro Montes

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 60 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 45 | Overall: 45

Montes joined the Mariners during the 2021-22 international signing period for $2.5 million with as much hype as any power hitter in that year's class, ranked No. 8 by MLB Pipeline among that group. It translated to 10 homers and a whopping .585 slugging percentage in 55 games during last year's Dominican Summer League.

However, a 33.2% strikeout rate also jumped off the page, as did the high overall whiff rates, so despite that big-time power, he needs to shorten up, especially as he faces better pitching. Montes still had a .422 on-base percentage and walked at a 15.7 percent clip, suggesting that his issues aren't as much rooted in plate discipline, but more on pitch selection -- because when he does make contact, the exit velocities are pushing past 110 mph. The biggest comparison -- and it's a lofty one -- is to fellow Cuba native Yordan Alvarez.

Defensively, Montes was better than what the Mariners expected in the corner outfield, an encouraging sign that he'll have far more value there than if he moves to first base. An area of improvement would be in route running and overall range given that he projects as an average runner. But if Montes sees improved contact and cuts the K's without sacrificing power this summer in the Arizona Complex League, that'll represent a huge step in his trajectory. - MLB Pipeline

Here's an updated Lazaro

The only guy I know that is completely missing a facegen that I would like is this Dave Roberts: https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...oberda03.shtml

He's not in my version of the fg files.

Adael Amador

Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 45 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 55 | Overall: 55

One of the top-ranked players available on the international market for the 2019-20 signing period, Amador received a $1.5 million bonus to join the Rockies. He wasn’t able to make his pro debut until 2021 because of the pandemic but showed right out of the gate that he had the chance to be a very good hitter, performing well that summer in the Arizona Complex League, replicating that success during his full-season debut in 2022 and hitting well while touching Double-A for the first time in 2023. He did miss seven weeks following surgery to repair a broken hamate in his right hand.

Right from the outset, Amador has shown off an advanced approach at the plate that has belied his years. The switch-hitting infielder has walked more than he’s struck out in his career heading into the 2024 season, drawing a free pass in 14.2 percent of his plate appearances while striking out just 12.3 percent of the time. He barrels up the ball consistently from both sides, and while he’s definitely a hit-over-power type, the strength he’s added has allowed him to drive the ball for extra bases more consistently.

While he continued to play shortstop more than anywhere else in 2023 and has solid hands and footwork to go along with a decent arm, he did start to get additional reps at second base, with some thinking that might be his best spot as he continues to fill out his six-foot frame. He’ll play all of 2024 at age 21, with a chance to really show off just how much offensive ceiling he has.

Had to do my best to close the smile. Also, the game last had him at 161 lbs but I built the face to be able to go up to the 200 lbs that his is currently listed at. I changed the db to 189 lbs as I he looks so much thinner than his listing. But in any case, if someone else overwrites the weight, it should still be okay at 200 lbs. That's the point.

Tyler Locklear

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 45 | Arm: 50 | Field: 40 | Overall: 45

Pete Alonso, anyone? That was the comp that MLB Network analyst Dan O’Dowd shared after Seattle selected the 22-year-old in the second round of the 2022 Draft and made him VCU’s highest pick in 18 years. Locklear possesses the kind of raw, untapped power that organizations covet, and it carried even more credibility after he hit nine homers in the Cape Cod League in 2021. He helped VCU to a pair of Atlantic 10 Conference titles, hitting 36 homers combined in 2021-22, and he added another seven in 29 games after debuting at Single-A Modesto last year. He was showing his bat would play during his first full season in 2023, though he missed more than two months with a broken hand suffered by a hit by pitch.

His calling card, obviously, is raw power from the right side that many tout as better than plus. Because of the more limited college competition he faced in the Atlantic 10 Conference, it’s possible that he experiences some kinks when moving up, especially against tougher pitching. The swing is advanced, but for an aggressive power guy, there can be tendencies to over-hit and expand the zone. That said, because he’s older, there’s a chance he could climb quickly.

Locklear flashed an above-average arm manning third base at VCU, but most scouts suggest that he’ll need to move to first longer term. Above all, it’ll be his bat that carries him to the big leagues. - MLB Pipeline

Hey Lans, if you're free would you be able to give Walker Jenkins (Twins prospect) a shot? Guy looks like a Captain America already at 19.. But I had trouble finding any non-smiling pictures to share.

Really appreciate it man!

Walker Jenkins

Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 60 | Run: 55 | Arm: 60 | Field: 55 | Overall: 60

The best high school hitter from North Carolina since Josh Hamilton was the No. 1 overall pick back in 1999, Jenkins was thought to be one of five legitimate 1-1 caliber talents in the 2023 Draft class. The Twins, who had the No. 5 pick courtesy of the first MLB Draft Lottery, were thrilled when Jenkins was still available. He signed for a full-slot bonus of $7.14 million and made a strong first impression by reaching full-season ball and posting a .988 combined OPS in 26 games during his pro debut.

With a strong 6-foot-3 frame and a ton of bat speed from the left side of the plate, Jenkins has the chance to be a plus hitter with plus power. He can punish good velocity, showing the ability to turn on balls already and hit them out to his pull side, though his double-plus raw pop shows up to the opposite field as well. He makes a ton of hard contact, and in his pro debut, he didn’t swing and miss much, with his hit tool right now a touch ahead of his in-game power.

A solid runner with good instincts, Jenkins began his pro career mostly playing center field, and that’s largely where he’s going to play during his first full season of pro ball as well. He’ll get some exposure to the corners just so he’s comfortable there if there’s an opening whenever his bat is ready for Minnesota, but there’s internal conviction he can stay up the middle.

I tried to keep a lot of the facial lines as it makes him less generic. If he makes the bigs and gets a clean, non-smiling professional media day photo, I'll relook him in the years ahead. He's still young.

The rookie FGs for the 1962 season are completed... huge one with 133 new players. As usual if a player isn't in the file it's because Lans did a good one for him already in the pack.

The 1962 card template isn't the best (like its real life counterpart) so the colors are more lively in the game.

Thanks for Andy Dyes, Lansdowne!

I'm still undoing transactions that the game entered prematurely (as mentioned in the other thread) and I'm trying to send Randy Bass back to KC…but I can't seem to find a facegen for him. Did he get scrubbed because of his time in Japan or something?

I think I read so in the general section... the guys who played in Japan aren't there if you play a 2024 new start but they are if you play in historical mode.

Randy Bass

In a move without precedent in Japan’s long baseball history, players from Oklahoma and Venezuela were inducted into the country’s Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday. For the inductees, Randy Bass and Alex Ramirez, the event was yet another in a long line of opportunities to exceed all expectations for players from the Americas in ***. Bass had back-to-back triple crowns and led the H******n Tigers to the franchise’s only championship in 1985. Ramirez, who struggled to get playing time in Major League Baseball, is the only foreigner to attain 2,000 hits in an *** career.

“The Japanese Hall of Fame was never on my radar growing up in that little town of Lawton, Oklahoma,” said Bass, who played only six seasons in *** but made an indelible mark on the game there. “I’m just grateful to the H*****n organization that despite the way it ended, all these years later, they still consider me like family and I’m sure this honor wouldn’t be possible without them supporting it.”

Drafted by the Minnesota Twins, Bass, a journeyman first baseman, played for five M.L.B. teams from 1977 to 1982, but he immediately broke out as a star after signing with H*****n for the 1983 season. He led the Central League in 10 different offensive categories over his first four seasons, including the triple crown categories — batting average, home runs and R.B.I. — in both 1985 and 1986. He was named the most valuable player in the regular season and the Japan Series in 1985. For all his accomplishments, though, Bass is often remembered for the one he did not attain: S******u Oh’s record of 55 home runs in a single season. Bass had 54 with two games left in 1985. But the Giants, managed by Oh, refused to challenge him, walking him six times in his final eight at-bats of the season. - New York Times, July 19, 2023

No conspiracy on the missing facegen. It was there. It was just one of the ones with a code that predated the switch to the BBR codes/IDs. Here it is (it has a 001 instead of the correct 002 in the middle). You can see why - after reviewing thousands of miscoded IDs, I'm content to delete them going-forward rather than save them.

Oh, and the asterisks are my own. That league wants to be ignored by the great baseball fans here. Fine by me... I'll ignore you just fine. Not interested in opinions on my using them. In a more relevant topic, he had an iconic beard over there but was exclusively sporting a mustache in MLB, and I default to a player's most associated facial hair in picking one for a facegen. I also defer to the MLB.

Pretty much the reason why I did a clean shaven Tommie Aaron for the pack in place of using the kick ass one you did for me last year since it was after his playing days when he was a coach.

Drew Ehrhard

- Physical Description: Medium, slighly stocky build. No remaining projection
- Hit: Potential average hit tool. Does not strike out a lot. Has not been tested against advanced competition.
- Power: Solid-average power profile, but has not been tested against advanced pitching.
- Run: Fringe-average speed.
- Field: Able to play multiple positions. Won Gold Glove award at second base in 2018. Moves well. Also caught in 2022 at Tampa and appears that he will catch in the Red Sox organization as well.
- Arm: Average arm strength.
- Career Notes: Older brother of former Red Sox draft pick Zach Ehrhard. Played six years at Tampa. No. 3 all-time leader in hits in Division 2 history.

- Summation: Signed at age 24 1/2, which is traditionally late. Has an interesting profile and has had a lot of success at the Division 2 level. Said to have very good makeup. Profiles as a potential high minors contributor. - soxprospects.com

Some days I'm pleased to make facegens and contribute to the pack. Other days, like today when I look at that old facegen, I'm thrilled to be removing a facegen from the pack.
