Less battery harvesting coming. A small step in the right direction, I guess: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...0DvyId6R7oZjFv

Italy has reportedly opened investigations into "all current and recent" F1 drivers for tax evasion. No major news sources for this yet, not that I expect ESPN to understand what's going on.
I don't know specifics about Italian tax law, but I'd bet my right arm they have the equivalent of the German §50a EStG regulating witholding tax on "performances of non-resident entertainers", which can be anything including musicians, exhibiting artists, and also sportspeople of all descriptions, which are subject to a flat tax on the earnings they made in that country. It also means that the reporting is wrong because drivers resident in Italy would not be investigated under this; surely Kimi, I think Bearboy has lived in Italy for a while (Ferrari junior), and potentially whoever has driven for Red Bull Sugar Free (old Minardi factory in Faenza).

Since I didn't renew F1TV and I couldn't be bothered to find a stream, I missed it. Is the qualifying harvesting still as awful as before? I heard reports that things weren't changed like the FIA originally said it was going to be.

To be honest - no idea. I have completely stopped reading the BS propaganda on the F1 page, and the commentary on SRF is bottomless, so I'll have to wait for my usual rage screamers on Youtube to tell me what the current state of the sport is tomorrow.

So I caught a stream of some of the action today. First things first. Sky Sports sucks. F1TV is a million times better. Also, Miami still stinks. And so do the cars.

Just a few more retirements and Cadi can get points. What a mess so far.

That was a bit of a ruckus finish.
Lando unhappy on the radio, and for good reasons, because the team had the worst weather radios again, and pitting that one lap later dropped him behind Kimi and cost the W..... Three in a row for little Kimi...!

And everyone was waiting to sniff George's next fart. I'm glad Kimi's toasting him at the moment.

Apparently by 2030 or 2031 FIA is forcing through a switch to V8's. Which seems stupid if you want to be road car relevant, but the powertrains haven't been road car relevant since the 80s anyway. Every time they say they want to have tech that's real-world based, I wonder why they don't just switch to small displacement turbo 3 or 4 cylinders since 90% of ICE vehicles are using them now.

I believe there's a Renault Clio Cup where you can watch that in action already. Not exactly the pinnacle of motorsports though.
The difference between regulations now and the regulations in the 1970s and 80s that allowed for experimentation and innovation in F1 is about the difference in the phone directories of Portland, OR, and Portland, ME. Just this week one of the Audis was disqualified for this and that being two millimeters too big. The sport is not ever gonna get back to Colin Chapman experimenting with all kinds of lightweight (and brittle) alloys, or Brabham shoving a giant fan into the rear of the car to walk the Swedish GP on a clearly superior design (that also immediately got banned).

You want to go back to the "run what ya brung" days of auto racing? As much as I hate having a cookie-cutter spec series, the opposite is worse. Sure, the innovation is cool, but the lack of competitiveness isn't. In NASCAR terms, this is why Richard Petty is the most overrated driver of all-time. Yes, I said that and I will die on this hill.
I would like to rewind to last year. Remember when almost the entire field was separated by less than second? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Cadillac really came in at the wrong time. Stop trying to save the planet and save a few thousand dollars. Bring back the V10s, drop some of the downforce, and let the guys race.

I've always felt like if you want to have innovative engineering then make it a fuel formula like Group C was (i.e. when sportscars were more popular than F1). Run whatever you want but you can use this much fuel/energy.
