Not gonna lie I want to hear nothing but boos tomorrow directed at Baez, Lindor, Pillar, and anyone else with a diva attitude. That crap don't play here in New York.

It doesn't play elsewhere, either. I don't think I've ever seen any players, anywhere, who have disgraced themselves in this manner, especially ones whose dismal performances deserve fan disapproval.

Richie Hebner and Mets fans were definitely cross from day 1 and the hatred was mutual.

Yes, that is an example from before I was born

Booed first time up, cheered when he scored the winning run.* I only wish there were more people there for it, on both counts. That's Metsball!

* Never mind that they had to rally from 5-1 to beat a last place team.

I was amused at Javy Baez's reaction to being boo'd.

The dude has 153 strikeouts in 397 at bats this year, with a .210 average and .258 OBP as a Met.

His LIFETIME OBP is .302...and he wants 30 million a YEAR? Really? Good news is that this latest bullcrap will make it a lot easier for Mets to not make him an offer.

Garry Templeton was a St. Louis Cardinal, and famously flipped off the fans in St. Louis. The picture made the front page of the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Whitey Herzog dragged him off the field, physically, and he was traded to the Padres during the offseason, a straight trade for Ozzie Smith.

After he went to SD, he pulled a Pujols, and his average dropped 50+ points.

I was at the game the next year, in 1982, the first game he came back to St. Louis. It was ... AMAZING...and it didn't involve the Mets. Heh heh.

There were several individuals that passed out the picture of him flipping off the fans to the incoming fans, in case anyone had forgotten. Nope.

Here's the box score: 0-3 with an error.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/b...98205180.shtml

His first at bat, quite a lot of normally excellent fans stood up and flipped him off. The second at bat, THOUSANDS of fans booed him when he came to the plate, and flipped him off. Third at bat? No exaggeration to say most of the fans stood up, booed him VERY loudly, with MANY thousands of hand gestures.

In the eighth inning, Templeton, feeling the pressure, took a routine ground ball, and threw it over the first baseman's head. AWESOME! Place went nuts!

Well, crap. Look what I missed. I don't read the papers, so I didn't know about The DP Combo from Hell acting like stupid brats.

Then I forgot about today being a day-night doubleheader, and missed the real game at 1.00, booing included. (And I don't watch that 7-inning Manfred crap, so my day is done.)

I'd boo myself, but I don't want to encourage these dicks.

Watched the highlights. Nice comeback (about TIME Nimmo started hitting bombs!), but the winning sprint only happened because Miami had a catcher in LF. "Defensive replacement", Donnie Baseball. Look it up.

And I'm sure that Javy's "apology" was just as nice as his publicist wrote it. But in the moment, he doubled down and defended his actions. That's the true Javy, IMO.

Ted Williams once spat at Red Sox fans who booed him. But Ted was arguably the greatest hitter in history. Baez has a way to go before I judge him on that scale, IMO.

Great story. Here's an article that I found about the 1981 game in which Templeton flipped out. The video has some still shots, including one of Herzog grabbing Templeton, trying to get him off the field:

What's left:

vs. MIA (1)
@ WAS (5)
@ MIA (3)
vs. NYY (3)
vs. STL (3)
vs. PHI (3)
@ BOS (2)
@ MIL (3)
vs. MIA (4)
@ ATL (3)

That's 13 against the bottom feeders in the division, but also 17 against teams in contention. I don't see them play over .500 in this situation, and "over .500" isn't gonna cut it to begin with.

I will also pay for that, but I enjoy Baez, the ****, losing a diamond earring in the dirt. Suck it!

(Raccoons will definitely get swept out of the CLCS later today)

Best of luck to the Raccoons, what could possibly go wrong?!?!?

.500 team gonna .500, and if people didn't see them screw the pooch against Pittsburgh and Miami the last time, they shouldn't be surprised during this stretch.

Like you say, they probably can't make up the ground even with an epic run, and at this point I'd just be refreshed if they can play as well as they have the last couple of games so that we're watching baseball games and not zombie movies every night.

Sure, rub it in.

The good news is that Ronny Mauricio is a shortstop, so if we can just flush The Toilet and give Javy a finger of our own, we can be back to a decent team by…2024?

Of course, the new CBA will probably enshrine universal DH and bloat the playoffs some more, so I won't be watching. I skipped last year, I'm ready for the sport to be Dead to Me.

Screw you, Manfred. Thanks for the fold, Rojas! Nice trade at the deadline, Zack! (How do you waste effort on Baez and let the Phils get Gibson when you're STARVING for starters? Sigh.)

And thanks fo Ida, we now have 4 "games" of Manfred-ball in the next two days. See you on Saturday, I guess. (Good thing it's international break in soccer. Hate to finally get a Met game and be drained from watching the EPL all day.)

Wednesday's game will be made up on the 28th when the Marlins are back in town. Today's game is a normal 9-inning game.

And I like it when people have principles and stand by them, but you're a bit too hardcore for me.

Oh, good. Thanks. Glad I checked in. (I guess the DVR would have responded to previous programming anyhow, but still.)

And I did watch one 7-inning game…for Jake. But that's off the table now, obviously.

If we're in contention on the 28th, I guess I'll hold my nose. I mean, I watch Chip Caray when we play the Braves because MLB thinks I'm "local" to Atlanta (I'm 200+ miles away!) and blacks out GKR. I can make sacrifices if I have to.

I guess that "67-67" I saw on the ticker during college FB means the Mets won yesterday. (I don't watch "extra innings", so I turned it off after 9.) But I still want to take a moment to (metaphorically) stand up and salute Edlose Diaz at his "best". (That was the anniversary of the Suzuki Salami, right?)

I really can't wait for Edlose to get kicked to the curb. I realize that with the CBA about to end my interest in the sport, Timmy will end up outlasting me by a few years…but I'll still (metaphorically) dance on his (metaphorical) grave.

Skipping today's "double-header", of course. See you tomorrow, team. Good luck!

I'm still skeptical they'll keep this up long enough for it to truly matter who the closer is... but if so I don't see how his pitching games that matter ends up any differently than it did in 2019.

Isn't the second game today 9 innings? I can't keep track of this stuff, and I usually forget in the middle of the games when they're going to be with California League rules.

Should both be seven today, although two were enough for Nimmo to tear out a leg again.....
