Cards news: Nov. 30 -- 3B Nolan Arenado and minor leaguer dealt to Washington for outfielder Boyd
Attachment 1013173The St. Louis Cardinals made the move of trading veteran third baseman Nolan Arenado, along with minor league relief pitcher Will Clements, to the Washington Nationals in exchange for minor-league outfielder Emaarion Boyd.
Once the pre-eminent third baseman in the game, Arenado has seen a steady decline over the past few seasons. In 2026, Arenado, 35, played in 128 games/123 starts and hit just .243 with 11 home runs and 65 RBIs. He also saw his defensive prowess decline from elite to a less-than average rating. In Boyd, the Cardinals acquire an well-above average defender at all three outfield positions. The 23-year-old has yet to play in the majors, last season he played in 119 games over three levels (A+, AA and AAA) and hit .276 with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs.
