Game Performance Spotlight: Mike Lynch
What an odd pitching performance for Philadelphia Athletics pitcher Mike Lynch. On a day that saw him toss 216 pitches in a 4 to 2 loss, Lynch set an Athletics team record with 14 strikeouts but an American League extra-innings record with 10 walks.

Game 97: Boston Americans vs. Washington Senators
The magnificent mystery of how Sam Leever keeps winning is something to behold. In a match-up against the best pitcher in MLB, Leever somehow got the best of Rube Waddell, as the Boston Americans (54-43) thumped the Washington Senators (56-41) by an 11 to 2 score. The Americans now sit just 2-games out of the top spot in the American League race.
The winning continues, as Sam Leever (16-6) kept the opposition in check as he allowed just 2 runs (0 earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks in his 101-pitch effort; Game Score 68. Surprisingly, Rube Waddell (19-6) did not have it today as he permitted 7 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits and 4 walks, striking out 7 in 7 innings of work; Game Score 42. Jock Menefee covered the final 2 innings in which he allowed 4 runs (0 earned) on 4 hits. The Boston bats were active today, as Fred Clarke (3 for 4, Run, 3 RBIs, Walk), Frank Chance (2 for 5, Triple, 2 Runs), Solly Hofman (2 for 5, Triple, Run, RBI), and Johnny Lush (2 for 5, Run, RBI) hit the ball well. Danny Hoffman (2 for 3, Walk, Stolen Base), Duff Cooley (1 for 3, Double, Walk), and George McBride (1 for 4, Triple, 2 RBIs) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Sam Leever (Season: #12 / Career: #48)

Game 103: New York Highlanders vs. Boston Americans
It seems to be the case that any Johnny Lush start will come with very little run support. While that was the case again today, the Boston Americans (59-44) outlasted the New York Highlanders (50-53) by a 2 to 1 score. The win, coupled to a Washington Senators (59-44) loss moved Boston back into a 1st-place tie in the American League race.
Rookie sensation Johnny Lush (14-11) twirled a gem today, as he allowed just 1 earned run on 6 hits and 1 walk, striking out 5 in his 106-pitch outing; Game Score 75. Barney Wolfe (11-12) was tagged with the loss despite keeping the opposition in check to the tune of 2 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 59. Contributions at the plate came from Jesse Hoffmeister (1 for 1, Triple, Run), Bill Lange (2 for 4), and Frank Chance (1 for 3, RBI, Walk) in the win, while the Highlanders were led by Jesse Burkett (1 for 3, Double, RBI) and Roy Thomas (1 for 3, Walk). Player of the Game: Johnny Lush (Season: #16 / Career: #16)

National League Player of the Week
What a way to make the most of your MLB call up. At 30-years old, it is difficult to call Philadelphia Phillies 2B Gus Dundon a rookie, yet the recent addition to the Phillies lineup is not letting the opportunity pass by him. In earning his 1st National League Player of the Week award, Dundon batted .455 (10 for 22) with 1 Double, 1 Homerun, 5 Runs, 6 RBIs, 1 Walk, and 3 Stolen Bases. This was good for a slashline of .455/.478/.636 that resulted in 0.6 WAR.

American League Player of the Week
In what has been an overall successful rookie season thus far, Boston Americans star pitcher Johnny Lush can add to his list of accomplishments the American League Player of the Week award. In earning this honor for the first time, Lush posted a 2-0 record with a 0.50 ERA and 12 K's to just 2 BB in 18 IP.

Trade Proposal
Received an unsolicited trade offer from the St. Louis Browns in which they are willing to part with 25-year old pitcher Tom Hughes (10-7 with 2.38 ERA in 162 1/3 IP with 2.2 WAR; career record of 48-69 with 2.91 ERA in 1051 IP with 16.1 WAR in 4 seasons; 1st Rd selection (#1) in 1899 draft) in return for 28-year old 3B Jesse Hoffmeister (.217/.292/.319 in 185 PA with 0.2 WAR; career slashline of .265/.317/.395 in 886 PA with 5.4 WAR; 1st Rd selection (#15) in 1896 draft). I have to admit, this is a tempting offer as I likely will need to replace Jesse Tannehill and Sam Leever at some point in the not so distant future. I am going to give this some serious consideration.

Game 105: Boston Americans vs. Detroit Tigers
Well the good fortune that Sam Leever has enjoyed over the last few months came to a crashing end today. In a disappointing outing (coupled to sloppy defensive play), the visiting Boston Americans (60-45) fell to the Detroit Tigers (53-52) by a 7 to 6 score.
The Tigers starter did not factor into the decision, as Doc White lasted 6 innings in which he surrendered 6 earned runs on 11 hits, 1 walk, and 1 hit batsman; Game Score 28. Norwood Gibson (10-8) was called in to cover the final 3 innings and did an outstanding job to earn the win; as the spot starter scattered 3 hits without allowing a hit or walk. Sam Leever (17-7) took the loss after he permitted 7 runs (5 earned) on 15 hits and 1 walk; Game Score 28. The Tigers had a nice offensive output today, led by Mike Donlin (3 for 4, Triple, Run, 2 RBIs), Dave Fultz (3 for 5, Run, RBI), and Charlie Hickman (2 for 3, Run, RBI, Sacrifice Fly, Stolen Base). Solly Hofman (3 for 4, Double, Run, 2 Stolen Bases), Fred Clarke (1 for 5, Homerun, Run, 3 RBIs), Frank Chance (2 for 4, Triple, Run, Hit by Pitch), and Bill Lange (2 for 4, Triple, Run, RBI) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Mike Donlin
