The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that right-handed pitcher Jason Savacool will miss at least 10 months after being diagnosed with a torn UCL (elbow ligament) after leaving a Sept. 8 game against Washington early.
Savacool, 25, made 27 starts this season for the Cardinals going 7-10 with a 4.26 ERA.
Michael McGreevy will replace Savacool in the St. Louis rotation.
Last year, the 27-year-old McGreevy topped the National League with 16 victories but the 2027 season has been a struggle.
In 16 starts with the Cardinals, McGreevy went 2-6 with a 5.01 ERA.
His results at AAA Memphis have been even worse as he has gone 5-4 in 12 starts with a 6.39 ERA.

Despite a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs, the Colorado Rockies have been assured a place in the postseason for the first time since 2018.
At 91-57, Colorado leads the Arizona Diamondbacks by eight games in the National League West Division with 14 games remaining in the season.
They also own the best record in the NL by five games over the Atlanta Braves, who sit atop the NL East.
Colorado has only made the World Series once, in 2007 when it fell to the Boston Red Sox.

Note: Because of some kind of scheduling glitch, the St. Louis Cardinals only played 153 games this season.
Some teams played as few as 150. Not sure what happened. Will have to look at my schedule settings, if I proceed on to 2028.
Anyway, nothing I can do about it now.

Starting Pitcher of the Month: Quinn Matthews -- The 26-year-old left-hander went 0-1 in three starts with a 3.30 ERA. He pitched 18.0 innings, during which he struck out 23 and had a 1.00 WHIP.
Relief Pitcher of the Month: Tink Hence -- The 25-year-old right-hander got into seven games going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. He pitched a total of six innings recording six strikeouts and a 0.67 WHIP.

Player of the Year: Lawrence Butler -- The 27-year-old left-fielder had the best season of his career hitting .291 with 38 home runs, 102 RBIs, 97 runs scored and 30 stolen bases in 143 games. He got on base at a .368 clip and slugged .562.
Starting pitcher of the Year: Tanner Houck -- The 31-year-old right-hander was limited to 23 starts during which he went 8-8 with a 3.42 ERA. He pitched 131.2 innings, during which he struck out 94 and had a 1.18 WHIP.
Relief Pitcher of the Year -- Jeremiah Estrada -- The 28-year-old right-hander got into 55 games during which he went 6-2 with two saves and a 3.32 ERA. He pitched a total of 59.2 innings, during which he struck out 72 and had a 1.21 WHIP.
