October 2298 - News and Notes - October 1-7

Indeed!

And it looks like front offices want to keep former players out of mischief, too!

1 October 2298 - Retirements and Other Firings

The Easy Town Assaultrons announce that hitting coach Bobby Lemus will not make a second try at a championship. Today, he retired from baseball. Also, Diamond City GM Tommy Doddy is going to use his team's first trip to the playoffs as his ticket to success. Doddy is going to spend more time on his BNN offseason baseball show, "Howdy Doddy," that can now expand into the season, too.

The Atom Cats have announced that in addition to GM Rich "Size Man" Szymanowski and manager Ben Stoudt's firing, they would also let go pitching coach Slick Lick Thompson.

The following players have also announced their retirements: 3B Jeff Bust, RP Dick Tricky (Fort Hagen), LF Paul Stands (Sunshine Tidings), and RP Josh Gillette (Jamaica Plain).

Tricky is a "tricky" one. The 36-year-old, who has appeared in 31 games for the Silver Shroud over the past two seasons, accumulating a 1-0 record with one save and a 6.71 career ERA, entered his name into the coaching ranks before the start of the 2297 season. Instead, he ended up leaving the Salem Witch Hats to sign with Fort Hagen when there was no interest in signing him as a coach. With the Shroud, he acted as a coach understudy to manager Mark Andersen and pitching coach Danny Pease. Today's announcement of his retirement took place in The Slog at the Ghouls' ESAU.

2 October 2298 - Tricky Business

Not only did the announcement of his retirement as a baseball player take place at The Slog, but today the Ghouls' GM Plop Wyman made it official that retired Fort Hagen relief pitcher Dick Tricky would be their manager to replace the fired manager, Mack O'Shea.

"We're excited to announce that we brought in who we think will be the best manager," Wyman said, "a former CBO player. Today we announce Dick Tricky as the player who will lead us back to the championship."

Tricky, 36, will match Goodneighbor's Jeremy Whiteplate as the youngest managers in the CBO. Tricky also becomes the second former CBO player as a coach in the league. University Point bench coach Crick Dubya, 28, became a coach after a gangster boss attack ended his playing career.

3 October 2298 - Cats Make a Stands

For the second-straight day, and in a surprise move, a CBO team has signed a newly-retired player as their manager.

The Atom Cats announced today that Paul Stands, who officially retired from Sunshine Tidings just two days ago, would be their new manager. Stands, 36, joins Goodneighbor's Jeremy Whiteplate and The Slog's Dick Tricky as the youngest managers in the CBO.

In three seasons with the Chemists, Stands was more bench coach than player. He appeared in 29 games (24 in 2296) with no starts. He hit .143 in his career as a backup outfielder.

In a statement released on behalf of Stands today, he stated, "I may not have the skills, but I know baseball. I have every confidence I will help the entire lineup of the Cats to improve each day. I won't promise a championship in 2299, but I will fight to make us competitive every day."

Cats owner Zeke called the hire a "groovy, happening affair."

4 October 2298 - Gillette a GM?

In the most surprising move of grabbing up former players in important positions, the Diamond City Swatters announced that retiring GM Tommy Doddy will hire Josh Gillette formerly of the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets and Nordhagen Beach Party Boys.

Gillette pitched two seasons in Nordhagen Beach before being moved to the Red Rockets in 2298. His career numbers were 2-0 with a 8.22 ERA in 65.2 innings pitched.

In a statement released from Moe Cronin's office: "We're trying to be dynamic and make a splatter in the league. Picking up a guy like Josh Gillette will most certainly help us make that splatter. We're happy to have someone who can relate with the players and find the right fits based on what he knows about baseball."

5 October 2298 - Cats Go Treasonous, Hire Burr

Aaron Burr, who retired after three seasons with the Concord Radstags organization, has been named the newest pitching coach of the Atom Cats, joining fellow ex-player Paul Stands on the staff.

Burr has an unfortunate name in the Commonwealth based on history books available in the Boston Public Library. He also had an unfortunate career, appearing in one game in 2296, allowing no earned runs in 2.0 innings with four hits and two strikeouts.

The Cats have yet to fill their GM position. Some think team owner Zeke, also known as Zeke Cat, may take on the role if he cannot find the right fit.

7 October 2298 - Roxbury BC: Volz

The Roxbury Knuckle Punchers have announced that they have signed a bench coach from outside of the Commonwealth with the announcement of the hiring of Travis Volz. Volz states that he has been coaching a team near the Lakes, an area west of the Commonwealth that we assume to be somewhere near the Great Lakes, probably Michigan or Ohio of the former states of the USA.

Since there was no information on Volz, the Knuckle Punchers revealed a little about his philosophy: train hitters to get on base and move them through steals and bunts. Use aggressive base running without caring about the occasional caught stealing and throw outs. Avoid double play situations as much as possible.

According to Roxbury GM Kyle Wolf, "[Manager] Turbo Peabody and I had a long conversation with Mr. Volz, and he definitely knew his stuff. He had heard about the CBO through caravans and wanted to try to get in, and we're happy to have him. He will help [hitting coach] Toby [Slocumsjoe] turn hits into runs, something we could not do this season."

8 October 2298 - Piss in the Cup, Hancocks Still Celebrating

Since the Goodneighbor Hancocks won the Sole Survivor Series just over a week ago, the celebration has continued. Last Saturday, October 1, the settlement of Goodneighbor held a festival and parade. Since then, each member of the team gets to "hold the cup," the championship trophy for 24 hours before the next teammate takes over.

Thursday's cup holder was left fielder Zachary Utsinger. He paraded around Goodneighbor with the cup, ending his night listening to the soothing sounds of Magnolia and throwing his caps to Whitechapel Charlie, who refilled the cup with beer for Utsinger to drink.

Yesterday morning, Utsinger was discovered in an alley asleep with the cup, the cup still filled to the brim with b...check that, piss. Apparently, the drunken Utsinger mistook the cup for the commode and emptied his bladder within.

Burtie Cuttooth, who was next in line to possess, was offered a sip of Utsinger's "beer" but politely declined. Said Cuttooth, "I had a day planned of showing off the trophy to all the pretty girls and continuing the tradition of filling the cup with beer or wine or whatever was the drink of the hour. Instead of filling it up with booze, I had to fill it up with Abraxo. Believe me, I ain't drinking a sip from that cup! Give me my bottles instead. And I ain't carrying a pisspot around, either."

No word yet on who the next cup guzzler will be.

8 October 2298 - UP's Radwater Twice Bitten

University Point pitcher William Radwater met an unfriendly ghoul near the South Boston Military Checkpoint, resulting in bites from the feral ghoul roamer.

A patrol of Brotherhood soldiers were nearby and heard the commotion, separating the roamer from Radwater after he was bitten on his abdomen and arm. Thankfully, for him, the wounds were minor and ghouls are not zombies. However, he did head for Milton General Hospital for treatment to avoid infection. Assuming there are no complications, Radwater should be fine for the 2299 season.

8 October 2298 - NCA Announces Best Glovemen for 2298

"Hit 'em where they ain't" is a great hitting philosophy, but it doesn't always work when a fielder can seemingly appear out of nowhere to make the play. These magicians are often taken for granted as the season grinds along, but today they take center stage. The North Charles Association Top Defenders Award selections for 2298 are:

Pitcher
Chet Arthur (Nordhagen Beach Party Boys)

First Baseman

8 October 2298 - 2298 Best Gloves Picked by SCA

Some thoughts

In prepping for some stories for the offseason, I had to do some fact-checking in my New Vegas dynasty. That whole dynasty was only 20 pages?!? This one is already three times longer in three fewer seasons.

I guess that's what happens when the majority of the posts are about actual baseball and not planned and written narratives and short stories? I do sometimes wish I went beyond the "Lee and Dee" storyline, but that was my plan to be able to finish the dynasty instead of abandoning it with no end as I had done before and since with other dynasties.

This one has no end, either, so I am considering writing in an ending so that there is some end goal. At some point, I want to leave the Commonwealth, especially if there is ever a Fallout 5 (especially if it is in the Swamplands--my name for the Gulf region from Louisiana to Florida--I would change that name if the next game were set there and had its own regional name).

I am never going to play Fallout 76, but I may add some of its lore from the Wiki at some point. Fallout 76 is an online MMO, and I don't play those types of games or any online-based games for that matter (except my kids wanted Among Us so I agreed to get it for all three of us). Anyway, I play solo or with my kids only. If Fallout 76 were ever converted to a full Fallout solo experience, I would get that too, but I have read that the game is nearly empty if not played with others with almost nothing to do but explore. I can save a lot of money and time by just reading the Wiki!

I was pleased to see three of the defensive awards going to the Boys!

I laso hadn't realised New Vegas was so short! But I did enjoy it and that's the main factor why I picked up on this one. KUTGW!

Nordhagen Beach, Goodneighbor, and . . . Jamaica Plain each had three! I was surprised that that many players were good enough to be there for the Rockets. Then I checked, and the Red Rockets led the CBO in fewest errors (56). They had four really good hitters and two good starting pitchers. I just don't understand why they were 45-63 when the team appears that it is at least ten wins better than that, especially with such good defense.

For the Party Boys and Hancocks, well, they were the top seeds in each association, and their successful defense was part of their powerful trifecta of Hitting/Pitching/Defense.

October 2298 - News and Notes - October 9-10

I was concerned about awards voting--I did NOT want a Rookie of the Year selected by the AI since the rookie pool was all messed up. When I went to manually input awards, I got the message that I had already voted (I did or the BMU but allowed AI to vote, too). Panic! However, I tried to take back my ballot, and it did allow me to vote. Whew. Results this season are a one-person ballot, so there may be some bias. I tried to be fair, but there were some places where I felt I made some different choices than the AI would have made, like the SCA Reliever of the Year choice below. I was not given a ballot for the Manager of the Year, so I am curious to see who wins that! I have not simmed ahead, so I do not know.

While the lore of 76 seems interesting, it's not really my cup of tea either so I haven't played it. I also hear it's generally a buggy mess, too, so perhaps that's for the best.

Ironically I think Louisiana (or Florida) would make great locations for Fallout 5.

Whether or not it is, at some point in this dynasty or the next, there will be a trip to the Swamplands. I will keep my trigger finger near the edit button if there is an announcement and that locale is the same with a different name for the Fallout game.

October 2298 - News and Notes - October 11-12

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

11 October 2298 - Green Voted NCA Rookie of Year

Derek Green's age didn't show very often in his first year. He performed more like a veteran on the hill for the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and today he walked away with the 2298 North Charles Association Rookie of the Year Award.

The 19-year-old starter registered a 13-10 record this season in 27 starts. Over 172.2 innings he gave up 176 hits, struck out 148 and issued 41 walks as he held the opposition to a .262 batting average and fashioned a 4.95 ERA.

He received 1 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Phil Cecil of the Concord Radstags finished second in voting, while Taygun Topaloglu of the County Crossing Bloodbugs finished third.

Player - Team - First Place - Total Points
Derek Green - Fort Hagen Silver Shroud - 1 - 5
Phil Cecil - Concord Radstags - 0 - 3
Taygun Topaloglu - County Crossing Bloodbugs - 0 - 1

11 October 2298 - Hayjen Best Rookie in 2298

Aesed Hayjen, the rookie center fielder for the Vault 81 Dwellers, assured himself of a place in South Charles Association history with a solid performance in the 2298 season. He now has a place reserved for him in the league record book under "Rookie of the Year."

The 21-year-old Vault 81 newcomer took the trophy by hitting .287 in 108 games this season and finished with 135 hits, 34 doubles, 6 triples, 8 home runs, 51 RBI and 58 runs scored. He was 13 of 29 in stolen base attempts.

He received 1 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Jerry Weisman of the Warwick Mirelurks finished second in voting, while Bobby Van Marter of the Warwick Mirelurks finished third.

Player - Team - First Place - Total Points
Aesed Hayjen - Vault 81 Dwellers - 1 - 5
Jerry Weisman - Warwick Mirelurks - 0 - 3
Bobby Van Marter - Warwick Mirelurks - 0 - 1

12 October 2298 - NCA Manager of the Year Award Goes to Route

Graham Route skippered the Easy Town Assaultrons to a very successful year and has been acclaimed as the 2298 North Charles Association Manager of the Year.

He kept it short and sweet in the press conference as he accepted the award. "Thanks, but it wasn't just me out there this season."

The Assaultrons finished the regular season in second place in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League with a 61-47 record.

12 October 2298 - Hancocks Pilot Whiteplate Picked as SCA's Best

Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate caused quite a stir when he came to town. Noted for his feisty, no-nonsense attitude, Whiteplate threw his all into the 2298 campaign, winning over critics and fans as he went. He also won a few ballgames, running up a 77-31 record, which was good enough to take the first place spot in the South Charles Association Minutemen League standings.

"These guys are grown men. They don't need psychobabble, they need to win ballgames," Whiteplate snapped at his first press conference. While his approach was controversial, even for Goodneighbor, it netted the 36-year-old the South Charles Association Manager of the Year trophy. In response to which he replied, "It ain't molecular physics, it's baseball," and began discussing potential free agents with the local media.

13 October 2298 - County Crossing's Team Captain to Miss Time

County Crossing was not specific about the reasons behind it, but they announced today that reliever Justin Hale would leave the Commonwealth for some time with his expected return somewhere around March 1. That means he will miss the start of spring practice though he could be back in time for the Spring Tournaments. Hale is considered to be one of the team leaders for the Bloodbugs and is one of the few players with a strong relationship with manager Biff Future.

Hale struggled with an increased role in the Bloodbugs' bullpen in 2298. In 29 appearances, he pitched 45.0 innings, going 2-4 with a 6.40 ERA. In the two season prior, he had only pitched in 18 total games for both The Slog and County Crossing.

13 October 2298 - Shed Picked Best NCA Pitcher

Julian Shed had a marvelous 2298 season. The Nordhagen Beach mound mainstay garnered the most votes and has been named the NCA Pitcher of the Year Award honoree.

The Party Boys star dominated his opposition, finishing with 13 wins, 8 losses and a 2.99 ERA. In 27 starts he worked a total of 183.1 innings, striking out 141, while walking 51. Other clubs managed to hit only .220 against him.

He received 1 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Gwinnett Southie of the Concord Radstags finished second in voting, while Jason Woods of the The Slog Ghouls finished third.

14 October 2298 - Metalbox Heads NCA Best Player List

At the age of 20, Jarrett Metalbox of the Easy Town Assaultrons could very well have his best years ahead of him.

It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 2298 was good enough to win the left fielder the North Charles Association Hitter of the Year Award.

"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."

The top hitter put up a .408 batting average this year, as well as a .453 on-base percentage. He played 108 games and racked up 180 hits, 32 doubles, 3 triples, 17 home runs, 89 RBIs and 73 runs scored.

October 2298 - News and Notes - October 17

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

17 October 2298 - Trade Agreements Processed

While teams in the CBO have been able to trade players since the offseason began, there were league office freezes on several trades that involved more prominent players and prospects in case of front office changes.

Today, those trades were processed, three in all, with news stories below. Atom was the busiest to go with its new general manager, Paul Stands, who pitched for Concord just a couple months ago.

17 October 2298 - Atom Cats Ship "Ace in the Hole" to Fort Hagen

Atom and Fort Hagen have made a swap. Players involved in the transaction are the Cats 30-year-old RHP Matt "Ace in the Hole" Hope and a 4th round draft pick and the Silver Shroud 20-year-old CF Jason Niederer, 18-year-old minor league RHP Copper Geffre, and 21-year-old minor league RHP Mitch Revolver.

Hope has a won-lost record of 7 wins and 15 losses with 146 strikeouts and a lifetime 5.18 ERA.

17 October 2298 - The Slog Trades Ace Mass for Vault 81's O'Dell

It's being reported in the The Slog press that the Ghouls have traded 28-year-old LHP Edwin Mass, 20-year-old minor league RHP Troy Kisspeople, a 2nd round draft pick, and a 4th round draft pick to the Vault 81 Dwellers for 20-year-old SS Terry O'Dell, 20-year-old minor league 1B Bobby Greenwell, 20-year-old minor league RF Adam Brewer, and a 3rd round draft pick.

Mass has collected 9 wins and 11 losses in 2298 with a 3.57 ERA. The 28-year-old hurler also has struck out 126 batters in 176.2 innings and allowed 167 hits.

O'Dell was relegated to a backup role with the Dwellers in 2298 after being a starter his first two seasons for Vault 81. Drafted in the 4th round of the 2298 Inaugural Draft, O'Dell has played mostly at 3B, which may be his position for The Slog to battle struggling starter Stoop Bugwing for the starting role. O'Dell has a career .348 batting average with 22 home runs, 93 runs scored, and 86 RBI. Bigwing batted .280 with 8 home runs and 57 RBI. All were career-low averages with the adjustment of games played for the the 32-year-old.

17 October 2298 - Atom-Quincy Trade: Williams for Forestman

The Cats have reached a deal with Quincy, sending 29-year-old RHP Freedom Williams, 21-year-old minor league LHP Ricky DaKraze, and a 5th round draft pick to the Gunners in exchange for 20-year-old LHP Adam Forestman, 23-year-old minor league 3B Brad Gossiper, 19-year-old minor league RHP Rickey Schoolmaster, and a 1st round draft pick. Reports had been hinting at a deal in recent days, but weren't confirmed until this afternoon.

Drafted by the Cats in the 8th round of the 2296 Inaugural Draft, Williams was Atom's closer for the past three seasons. In his career, he has compiled a record of 8-6 with 40 saves. He has a career ERA of 3.87 with 37 walks and 94 strikeouts.

For his career Forestman has 13 wins and 3 losses with 0 saves. His ERA stands at 4.35 and he has fired third strikes past 112 batters in 99.1 innings while giving up 39 walks.

Slightly disappointed that more of the Boys didn't make it into the All-CBO teams, but I think it emphasises the discrepancy between north and south of the Charles. Hopefully, as some of our promising young players come through that might change.
I liked your initial list of names for the NWL and immediately noticed Moonlight Graham, from Field of Dreams (and the real-world MLB). In my own leagues, I always name the Rookie of the Year award the Moonlight Graham Award. There were other names that seemed familiar, too, possibly from other baseball movies. I'm not a great fan of "Major League", for example, but Wild Thing rings a bell! I love the references you work into your universe.

The Boys had a few other players close, but their numbers just were not as good as the people named to the first and second teams: Julian Shed, Dustin Mart, Tomas Jones, and especially Michael Fogcrawler. On the bright side for Nordhagen Beach, they have a solid all-around team and should be competitive for quite a few years.

For the NWL names, they are indeed some baseball movie names. I slightly changed most of the names either through some base change or spelling difference. However, Moonlight Graham is too perfect of a name not to find his way into this dynasty! I am sure I already know his post-baseball occupation!

From the Nick Valentine Files - Case 006969

Chapter 1: A Priest, a Rabbi, and a Synth Walk into a Bar

October 2289

A Hubflower for Magnolia: The Case of the Jilted Lovers

Chapter 2: Roses Are Red, Blood Is Too

On the way to Goodneighbor, Magnolia mentioned that she remembered the young man saying something about the Finches. That gave me a lead worth following. I also had one of my unsolved cases in hand, something to use as reading material while I would be spending the night in the Rexford. That was Case #321556, Red Roses: Murders in the City of Flowers.

The case was actually something that had been troubling me for some time. It was as cold a case as I had in the past 200 years. Before Diamond City, I had been in contact and a member of other communities, all of which have disappeared through various raids and attacks. One of those communities was appropriately called Rosehaven. Though roses have gone the way of the hippopotamus, the town had a beautiful array of hubflowers and carrot flowers surrounding the city. The old language is still poetic, and let’s face it, roses are more poetic than hubflowers. Like that book of lyrics I used to have—well, the old Nick--I still remember the beginning of one song: “My lover is like a red, red rose / That’s newly sprung in June; / My lover’s like the melody / That’s sweetly played in tune.” I believe it was by a fellow named Bob Burns. Must have been a fancy rock ‘n’ roller or something.

Anyway, Rosehaven, like most places in the Commonwealth, tried to recreate pre-war circumstances while unfortunately being populated with post-war people and, well, things like me. What it had going for it was a desire for a return to innocence, a time before the Great War went and returned everything to the original Big Bang. There were many who had never experienced nor had any real concept of the world before the Great War, but they still knew they hated living in a place where monsters were very much real.

Unfortunately for Rosehaven, while the people of the settlement spent their time idealizing a return to innocence, the rest of the Wastes were most certainly not becoming more innocent. Gangs in love with violence topped with violence reigned supreme throughout the land. Almost all the gangs I knew of had similar missions, though a few tried to become a little more organized and civilized. Most of them just wanted to see people bleed. That’s where Rosehaven comes in. And, no, it wasn’t a raiding party that started the, um, deflowering.

I remember the day as being May 17th and there being a festival that day celebrating life and vegetation. I was helping a fellow by the name of Barbury Newchurch place flower wreaths on the buildings of the town when we heard a scream behind one of the buildings. Barb and I hustled to the location where we discovered the town upper school teacher, Mr. Sanderrick Youthnot, with a steak in his heart cavity and flowers as stuffing within his clothes. Yes, I do mean a STEAK in his heart. A nice cut of the town’s prized milking Brahmin, Sweetitty, had been sliced up into bits, and stuffed into the cavity where Mr. Youthnot’s heart had been. His heart, as well as his left eye, which was replaced with Sweetitty’s coordinating eye, were never recovered.

Mr. Youthnot had long been suspected of deflowering the entirety of Rosehaven’s teenage female population, so the immediate suspects became the fathers and older brothers of all the girls in the upper school. Needless to say, the town was in an immediate uproar and the festival was canceled. Additional suspicion rose up in Daisy Cornfield and Eleanor West when they expressed more anger over the cancelling of the festival than Mr. Youthnot’s demise. I just thought they were ********.

During my time in Rosehaven, I was also hiding or, more accurately, denying who I was. Yes, I knew I was a synth and so did everyone who lived in Rosehaven. They were just like most places, reluctant but willing to give me a fair shake. However, as soon as anything went wrong, the long gaze of suspicion broke my way. Instead of being a cop in hiding, I was more like a criminal in the open, at least by some settlers’ viewpoints. In this case, Barb was quick to point out that I was incapable of being the murderer for two reasons: I was with him and he had observed the awkwardness of my synth hand when it came to using a knife. I tried to explain that my right hand was indeed capable of using a knife just like anyone else, but Barb shushed me, and everyone quickly forgot about me.

Instead, the town became a tizzy, a wandering collection of people each suspecting the other, all while we thought the killer of the town was among us. Following a town meeting, a list of the most likely of suspects arose, and Mayor Hartflower along with Security Captain Freddy Thumbs vowed to lead the investigation.

One month later to the day, June 17th, the owner of the trade booth, Maxine Sea, was found dead. Like Mr. Youthnot, she was mutilated. In her case, she was missing her left arm and right leg, and like before, her clothes were stuffed with flowers. Hubflowers.

Before any of us could solve the case, a few other mishaps led to the demise of Rosehaven and the case of the killer stealing body parts and leaving hubflowers—and steaks---in the victims’ bodies had to come to a premature close. By the time things were settled down enough to return to Rosehaven to investigate, I was in a town of one. Me, myself, and I. Either raiders hauled off the lot as slaves or super mutants took them all as an evening snack. There was literally no person, no blood, no evidence of life left. It was strange, but the case of the murders in the city of flowers was no more.

To tell the truth, I was more disappointed in losing the case than losing the town. But I do know this: using hubflowers as a calling card is unique, and whoever was behind Rosehaven’s killings has to be behind Goodneighbor’s.

October 2298 - News and Notes - October 25

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

25 October 2298 - Fort Hagen-Quincy Trade: Dimes for Nuka, Driftwood

The Baseball News Network is reporting that Fort Hagen and Quincy have agreed in principle to a swap that will send 21-year-old RHP Joey Dimes and a 4th round draft pick to the Gunners with 26-year-old LF Andrew Nuka, 29-year-old RF David Driftwood and a 3rd round draft pick joining the Silver Shroud. Fort Hagen general manager Kelly Arias would not confirm the trade, but a team representative close to the negotiations said the deal is official and is now only awaiting approval from the league.

In 2298, Dimes crafted a 12-10 record with a 5.08 ERA in 164.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .281 against him and he has rung up 123 strikeouts.

In 2298, Nuka compiled a .338 batting average and collected 148 hits, 16 home runs and 70 RBIs. Driftwood batted .272 with 35 home runs and 110 RBI.

Quincy has two young, talented outfielders that made acquiring an up-and-coming pitcher an offseason priority.

"We have two guys that are going to be stars," Gunners GM Gunner Sprague said. "Kevin Covert will probably be batting leadoff for us and starting in left field, and Tyler Braggmann will bat second and play right field."

Covert batted .300 in 2298 with a home run and 47 RBI with 55 starts at center field after being traded to the Gunners from Abernathy. Braggmann batted .348 with a home run and five RBI. Steve Gunkill (.178/2/10) is slotted to slide into the starting centerfielder position.

While Quincy has become much better at the pitching position, they are not considered as strong at outfield unless Gunkill shows better production.

On the other hand, Fort Hagen looks to be building a formidable team in the North Charles Association. The NCA's runners-up, the Shroud now have a legitimate longball threat in Drfitwood who hit 19 more home runs than team leader Jim Tiller.

"I don't know what the hell Quincy was thinking in agreeing to this trade," Shroud GM Kelly Arias said, "but we'll take it. Driftwood and Nuka, along with Hope, will help us win a championship. We hope that comes sooner than later."

Fort Hagen acquired Matt Hope from Atom last week. Hope was the Cats' ace but will probably slot in as either the third or fourth pitcher for the Shroud. Hope was drafted in the 1st round, #20 overall, of the 2296 Inaugural Draft.
