Walkers news: May 31 -- St. Louis 5, Quad City 3

Record: 32-19, 1st, 5 GA Springfield
Tied 3-3, St. Louis scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Quad City 5-3 at Busch Stadium (2006).
Abdul-Nasser bin Amr drew a lead-off walk from Thunder relief pitcher Michele Vassalotti to open the bottom of the seventh.
bin Amr then stole second and advanced to third on a wild throw by catcher Raul Callazo.
Bob Saavedra then snapped the tie with a single.
Callazo's second error of the inning, this one on a wild pick-off throw to first, advanced Saavedra to second.
Saavedra would score on a two-out double by Manuel Coke off Kakuro Sugimoto.
At one point, the River Walkers trailed 3-1.
They tied it with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Manny Martinez scored the first run on a wild pitch by Pascal Marcovicci.
Martinez had walked to lead-off the inning.
Marcos Francis later scored bin Amr with a single.
bin Amr had followed the Martinez walk with a single.
St. Louis rookie Kevin Hrdlicka lasted 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out eight and walked three.
Scott Rissler finished the sixth inning, and worked a scoreless seventh.
Rissler (3-1) would earn his third win of the season.
Nick Ruffalo (0.1 IP) and Brennan Weldon (0.2) combined on a scoreless eighth.
Nick Strother pitched around a one-out double by Collin Allen in the ninth for his seventh save.

Walkers news: June 1 -- Team awards for May

Player of the Month: Marcos Francis: The 31-year-old second baseman batted .352 with three homers, 16 RBIs and 19 runs scored in 26 games. He got on base at a .400 clip and slugged .514.
Starting Pitcher of the Month: Josh McDonald: The 29-year-old right-hander went 3-1 in five starts with a 1.99 ERA. He pitched a total of .31.2 innings, during which he struck out 23 and had a 1.11 WHIP.
Relief Pitcher of the Month: Brennan Weldon: The 28-year-old right-hander was 1-0 with three saves and a 0.51 ERA in 16 games. He pitched 17.2 innings, during which he struck out seven and had a 0.62 WHIP.

Walkers news: June 1 -- St. Louis 5, Quad City 3

Record: 33-19, 1st, 5.5 GA Cedar Rapids
Down 1-0, St. Louis scored a pair of runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth and held on to defeat Quad City 5-3 at Busch Stadium (2006).
The River Walkers won the final two games of their three-game series against the Thunder.
Rookie Mark Herman drove in both third-inning runs with a two-out single off QC starting pitcher Antonio Ceja.
A pair of errors by the Thunder played into St. Louis' outburst in the fourth.
Ceja committed the first error on a ball hit by pitcher Josh McDonald.
The first error came by Thunder third baseman Paul Totten on a ball hit by Abdul-Nasser bin Amr, allowing him to reach with one out.
After a walk to Jose Segura, pitcher Josh McDonald reached on an error by QC starting pitcher Antonio Ceja, with bin Amr scoring on the play.
Bob Saavedra followed with a single to score Segura.
Marcos Francis made it 5-1 with a deep fly ball to right, with McDonald crossing the plate.
McDonald (6-2) lasted 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits.
Greg Sones worked 2.2 innings, keeping the score at 5-3.
Bobby Westerman posted his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Walkers news: June 2 -- C Jackson Miller returns from IL; Martinez sent to Memphis

The St. Louis River Walkers have recalled catcher Jackson Miller from the injured list, where he had been on an injury rehab after suffering a back injury on May 9.
It was the second trip to the IL of the season for the 34-year-old Miller, who has played in just 18 games this season.
In those games, he has batted .315 with one homer and four RBIs.
During his time at Memphis, Miller played in three games during which he hit .181 with an RBI.
Going back to Memphis is 24-year-old catcher Manny Martinez.
Martinez has played in 11 games for St. Louis, hitting .315 with two homers and 14 RBIs.

The game between the Des Moines Harvesters and St. Louis River Walkers scheduled for June 2 at Busch Stadium (2006) in St. Louis has been postponed by rain.
It will be played as part of a doubleheader on June 3.

Walkers news: June 3 -- St. Louis 6, Des Moines 4, Game 1

Record: 34-19, 1st, 5.5 GA Springfield
Tied 2-2, St. Louis scored one run in the third and fourth innings, and two in the fifth on its way to a 6-4 win over Des Moines in the opening game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium (2006).
The Harvesters' Jared Poland had led off the top of the third inning with a single off River Walkers starting pitcher Shane Drogo, and later scored when Joe Allen hit into a fielder's choice to tie it at 2-2.
St. Louis reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third with back-to-back two-out doubles from Marcos Francis and rookie Mark Herman off Harvesters starting pitcher Teddy Loetzch.
An inning later, the Walkers pushed their lead to 4-2.
Nathaniel Dixon led off with a single.
Dixon stole second and moved to third on a Drogo bunt.
Bob Saavedra then drove him in with a ground out.
St. Louis added two more runs in the fifth.
Yan C. Dixon drove in Herman, who had drawn a one-out walk, with a double of Loetzch.
Abdul-Nasser bin Amr later scored Dixon when he grounded out off Clyde Rayner.
A two-run homer from Poland off Brennan Weldon, who had just placed Drogo two outs in the seventh, made it 6-4.
That, however, was the end of the scoring.
Drogo (5-2) went 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Weldon settled down after the Poland homer and retired the next four batters he faced.
Nick Strother set Des Moines down in order in the ninth for his eighth save.

Sean Hopkins limited St Louis to one run over the first seven innings and Des Moines downed the River Walkers 6-1 in the second game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium (2006).
Hopkins (2-1) allowed one run on seven hits during his time on the mound. He struck out six and walked one.
The Harvesters took control by scoring a pair of runs off St. Louis starting pitcher Xavier Wigfall in top of both the second and third innings.
Des Moines got both its runs in the second with two outs.
Willie Martinez doubled off Wigfall with two outs and scored on a Corey Jordan single.
Jordan later scored on a double by Hopkins.
An inning later, Kyle Roberts clubbed a two-run homer off Wigfall.
St. Louis got its lone run in the bottom of the third.
Alfredo Gomez led off with a double off Hopkins.
He later scored on a Chris Duncan fly ball to center.
The Harvesters got their final two runs in the eighth
Martinez drove them both in with a single off reliever Scott Rissler.
Josh Crespo replaced Hopkins in the eighth, and set St. Louis down in order.
Brad Beshirs did the same in the ninth.

Edward Kunselman allowed one run on three hits over the first 7.2 innings, and St. Louis defeated Des Moines 5-1 at Busch Stadium (2006).
The win gave the River Walkers' in two of the three games in the series.
Kunselman (4-0) didn't allow a hit until Joe Allen singled with two outs in the top of the fourth inning.
The Harvesters got their lone run on a home run by Justin Oates in the top of the sixth.
It made the score 3-1.
Kunselman exited after allowing a two-out double to David Tapley in the top of the eighth.
Kunselman struck out four and didn't issue a walk.
Greg Sones took over and got Oates to fly out to end the inning and keep the scoring at 3-1.
Bobby Westerman set Des Moines down in order in the ninth.
St. Louis went up 2-0 in the bottom of the second against Des Moines starter Hugh Fisher.
Rookie Mark Herman was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
Herman was eliminated when Yan C. Dixon hit into a fielder's choice.
Abdul-Nasser bin Amr followed with a double, moving Dixon to third.
Dixon scored on a single by Nathaniel Dixon.
Kunselman then got down a bunt which scored bin Amr.
A Manuel Coke homer off Fisher to lead off the bottom of the third made it 3-0.
The Walkers got their final runs in the bottom of the eighth on Marcos Francis' seventh home run of the season.
Reliever Mario Reyes served up the homer.

Record: 36-20, 1st, 5 GA Springfield
Tied 1-1, a two-run home run by Manuel Coke highlighted a three-run top of the seventh inning for St. Louis as the River Walkers defeated Evansville 4-1 at Yankee Stadium (1988).
A home run from Yan C. Dixon in the top of the sixth off Bosses starting pitcher Fernando Maldonaldo had tied the game 1-1.
St. Louis did its damage in the seventh against the Evansville bullpen.
Bob Saavedra got things rolling with a single off Danny McCauley.
A wild pitch, with Jackson Miller, at the plate moved Saavedra to second.
He scored on a Miller single.
Jeremy Kriech then replaced McCauley only to give up a 395 foot homer to right to Coke on an 0-2 pitch.
St. Louis rookie starter Kevin Hrdlicka worked five innings, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out five and walked one.
Brennan Weldon worked a scoreless sixth inning.
Weldon (3-0) earned the win
Bobby Westerman handled the seventh and eighth.
Nick Strother kept it 4-1 in the ninth for his ninth save.

Record: 36-21, 1st, 4 GA Springfield
Down 3-1, Evansville scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat St. Louis 4-3 at Yankee Stadium (1988).
The River Walkers jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning -- Marcos Francis drove both runs in with a double off Bosses starting pitcher Ramon Leon -- and another in the fifth -- Bob Saavedra led off with a triple and scored on a Mark Herman single -- but they would not score again.
Errors by St. Louis shortstop Abdul-Nasser bin Amr and third baseman Bob Saavedra led to Jamie Mora scoring an unearned run against Walkers starter Josh McDonald. in the sixth.
McDonald left the game after seven innings, and the Bosses pounced on St. Louis reliever Greg Sones in the eighth.
Danny Ocampo led off the inning with a walk, before Sones retired the next two.
Waldon then cranked out his 15th homer of the season on a 1-1 pitch, powering it 437 feet over the wall in left to tie the game.
Esteban Dominquez followed with a single, chasing Sones in place of Scott Rissler.
Aaron Nixon, who played for St. Louis last season, greeted Rissler with a double to score Dominguez with the winning run.
Leon lasted six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two.
After that, it was Bobby Stover, Stephon Harrison and Nate Green with a scoreless inning apiece.
Harrison (3-1) earned the win.
Green notched his second save of the season.

Walkers news: June 7 -- Evansville 11, St. Louis 2

Record: 36-22, 1st, 3 GA Springfield
Evansville hammered St. Louis rookie starter Danny Burch for six runs in the bottom of the second inning, and the Bosses went on to rout the River Walkers 11-2 at Yankee Stadium (1988).
Making a spot start for a tired Shane Drogo, Burch got in trouble in the first inning as Evansville loaded the base but failed to score.
However, he didn't survive the second as the Bosses pounded out six runs on just three hits, but were helped by two walks, a hit by pitch and a passed ball by Jackson Miller.
Chris McFadden and Ramon Montes both drew walks to open the inning.
Jaime Mora later was hit by a pitch with one out to load the bases.
Chris Shelley drove in the inning's first run with a single.
Luke Leto later plated a pair with another single.
Shelley scored on Miller's passed ball.
Aaron Nixon handled the rest with a two-run double.
The Walkers did climb back to within 6-2 with single runs in the fourth and fifth.
But the Bosses broke it back open in the bottom of the sixth, when Justin Slayton hit a three-run homer off Ron Cox.
A Jeff Waldron homer in the eighth off Alex Cintron accounted for the game's final run.
Bosses starter Cory Maddox lasted five innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
Joe Castaneda (1.0 IP), Nick Feretti (2.1) and Jeremy Kriech (0.2) combined to shut out St. Louis the rest of the way.
