The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed starting pitcher Brody Hopkins from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Leonel Sequera and catcher Leonardo Bernal.
A sixth-round draft pick by Seattle in 2024 before he was traded to Tampa Bay, the 25-year-old Hopkins broke into the Rays' starting rotation during the 2027 season. In 31 games/19 starts, Hopkins went 3-6 with a 3.72 ERA. Over his minor-league career, Hopkins pitched in 125 games/112 starts going 21-38 with one save and a 4.80 ERA. Sequera, 22, also made his major league debut in 2025. He pitched in five games/one start and went 1-0 with a 6.97 ERA, all late in the 2027 season. In the minors, Sequera pitched in 120 games/106 starts and went 25-37 with four saves and a 3.87 ERA. The 23-year-old Bernal also made his MLB debut in 2027, starting 17 games for the St. Louis during which he hit .180 with two home runs and six RBIs. Signed as an international free agent in January of 2021, Bernal has played in 615 games/575 starts and hit .267 with 18 home runs and 79 RBIs. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed right-handed relief pitcher Jacob Webb to a one-year contract worth $1.8 million.
The 34-year-old pitched for Baltimore last season getting into 52 games during which he went 6-2 with three saves and a 2.18 ERA. Webb also has pitched for Atlanta and the Los Angeles Angels since breaking into the majors in 2019. He has worked in 286 games -- all in relief -- during which he has posted a 22-14 record with nine saves and a 3.02 ERA. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have selected right-handed relief pitcher David Bednar in the first-round of the Rule 5 draft.
The Cardinals originally acquired Bednar in a md-season trade with the Houston Astros. But later traded him to Detroit when the team fell out of playoff contention. With the Cardinals, he appeared in 18 games going 1-1 with seven saves and a 1.00 ERA. During his time with the Tigers, he pitched in 13 games going 1-0 with four saves and a 1.35 ERA. The 33-year-old Bednar broke into the majors in 2019 with San Diego. Since that time, he has pitched with the Padres, Pirates, Astros and Tigers. Overall, he has pitched in 418 games going 26-31 with 171 saves and a 3.14 ERA. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed left-handed reliever Alex Vesia to a one-year contract worth $1.8 million.
A year ago, the 31-year-old pitched in 27 games for the Seattle Mariners going 4-0 with a 2.65 ERA. Vesia broke into the majors with the Marlins in 2020. Since that season, he has pitched for the Dodgers before joining the Mariners in 2027. Overall, he has worked in 341 games/one start going 26-15 with 10 saves and a 3.08 ERA. |

Looking to bolster their bullpen depth, the St. Louis Cardinals have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Raisel Iglesias and left-hander Adrian Morejon.
The 37-year-old Iglesias has been in the majors since he broke in in 2015. Last season, he was with the Red Sox pitching in 52 games going 701 with a 2.66 ERA. For his career, Iglesias has pitched in 719 games/21 starts and gone 57-60 with 282 saves and a 2.95 ERA. The 28-year-old Morejan split last season with the Padres and the Brewers. For the campaign, he worked in 47 games going 2-2 with a 4.60 ERA. Morejon reached the majors in 2019 with the Padres. In 248 games/14 starts, he is 14-13 with three saves and a 4.16 ERA. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the signing of right-handed reliever Gavin Williams to a one-year contract worth $1.6 million.
Williams, 28, spent last season with Kansas City where he went 6-8 with 36 saves and a 3.25 ERA in 59 games. Williams broke into the majors in 2023 with Cleveland and during that time has pitched in 142 games/83 starts going 26-38 with 36 saves and a 3.90 ERA. |

The St. Louis Cardinals continued the rebuilding of their bullpen with the signing of right-handed relief pitcher Bryan Abreu.
Abreu, 30, agreed to a three-year deal worth just over $18 million, with the final season including a team option. Abreu spent the 2027 season in Baltimore, where in 50 games he went 7-1 with three saves and a 4.83 ERA. He broke into the majors in 2019 with the Astros. Abreu pitched in Houston until last season when he joined the Orioles. In 423 career relief appearances, he has going 37-20 with 19 saves and a 3.03 ERA. |

Last season, Kim played with the Mets where in 148 games/147 starts he hit .244 with six home runs and 43 RBIs. Signed out of Japan by the Padres in 2021, Kim has played in 838 games/761 starts during which he has hit .242 with 64 home runs and 300 RBIs. |

The St. Louis Cardinals have inked left-handed relief pitcher Joe Mantiply to a two-year contract worth $4.96M per season.
The second season includes a team opt out. Last year. Mantiply spent most of the season with the Diamondbacks, where in 48 games he went 1-1 with a 3.40 ERA. The 36-year-old broke into the majors in 2016 with Detroit. He played with the Yankees in 2019 before signing on with Arizona, where he has been ever since. In 397 games/five starts, Mantiply has gone 18-15 with four saves and a 3.68 ERA. |
