We have lost four in a row and we have yet to beat the Cubs this season. Time to change both.

Today the Cubs are pitching Randy Johnson (8-4, 3.58).

The Giants have Rick Sutcliffe (3-5, 4.02).

I am back in the lineup and hitting seventh. I have gone 4 for 16 against Johnson.

On the downside, both Harold Baines and Robby Thomson are hurting. But they are in there. Let's go.

I caught a hot Bret Barberie liner for the 2nd out in the 2nd.
They got on the board that inning when Ivan Rodriguez scored on a Scott Fletcher single.

Cubs lead 1-0

I came up in the bottom of the inning with two out and Alvin Davis on 2nd. I flew out to Otis Nixon in centre.

They extended their lead in the 3rd when Paul O'Neill crossed on a Brady Anderson single.

Cubs lead 2-0

I led off in the 5th by popping out to Travis Fryman at 3rd.

Things got worse in the 6th when Anderson and Barberie scored on a Fletcher single.
Then Rodriguez scored on a Johnson single.

Still with none out and two men on, Matt brought in Scott Service.

With one out, Fletcher scored on a Fryman single.
We turned a Priske - Thompson - Davis double play to end it, but...

Cubs lead 6-0

In the 7th we turned a Thompson - Priske - Davis double play to get Barberie and Rodriguez.

I came up in the 7th with one out and Mark Lewis on 2nd. I grounded out to Fletcher at short.

WIth one out and a man on in the 8th, Matt turned to Mike Scott.

We turned another Thompson - Priske - Davis double play to get him out of the inning.

Pat Combs took the 9th.

I came up in the 9th with two out and Alvin on 1st. John Powell was pitching.
During my appearance, Alvin went to 2nd on a wild pitch.
I walked.
Then Steve Stanicek walked, to load the bases.
Then pinch hitter Rance Mulliniks walked, scoring Alvin.
Then I scored on the other runners moved up on a passed ball.
Harold singled, scoring Steve.
Robby walked, re-loading the bags.
Ruben walked, scoring Rance.
Bryce Bernadin (who started this inning off as a pinch hitter) singled, scoring Rance and Harold! Tie game!
Alvin struck out to end it, but...

Game tied 6-6!

With new life in the game, Bobby Thigpen took the ball for us in the 10th.
Tim Criswell took over behind the plate.

I came up in the bottom of the 10th with one out and Roger McDowell on the mound.
I walked again.
Stolen base #35.
Steve singled and I scored!

Walk-off win!

I went 0 for 3 but with two walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base.

Two batters later, Travis Fryman scored on a Bret Barberie single.

Cubs lead 9-4

I came up in the 6th with one out and Mark Lewis on 2nd. I grounded out to Tim Barker at short.

We closed the gap in the 7th when Harold crossed on a double by Robby and then Alan hit a two run homer.

Cubs lead 9-7

Joe Boever took the ball for us in the 8th.

I caught a Berberie liner for the 3rd out in the 8th.

I came up with one out in the bottom of the 8th, now facing Keith Brown.
I walked but was left on 1st.

Pat Combs took the 9th.

I handled a Barker grounder for the 2nd out behind him.

We could not score in the 9th and lost the game.

I went 1 for 3 with a single, a walk, and an RBI.

The team made a couple of changes after the game, sending Rod Nichols and Joe Boever down to Phoenix and calling up Mark Ross and Darryl Scott.

It is the rubber match against the Cubs.

Chicago is pitching John Dopson (2-1, 3,22).

I came up with two out in the 1st and reached on an error by Dopson.
I went to 2nd on a single by Bryce Bernadin.
Then Rance Mulliniks loaded the bases with an infield hit.
We left them juiced.

I next came up with one out in the 3rd and hit one to deep right for a triple!
I did not score.

I took care of a Jeff King grounder for the 2nd out in the 4th.
After that Bret Barberie crossed on a Brian Jordan single.

Cubs lead 1-0

We got it back in the bottom half when Tim Criswell scored on a sac fly by Tom.

Game tied 1-1

I handled a Tim Barker grounder for the 1st out in the 5th.
But a few batters later, Brady Anderson hit a two run bomb.
I took care of King again for the 3rd out.

Cubs lead 3-1

I came up with one out in the bottom of the 5th and flew out to Jordan in centre.

Jordan homered again in the 6th. Two runs again.

Cubs lead 5-1

Mark Ross took the ball for us in the 7th and then Darryl Scott did so in the 8th.

I handled a Jordan grounder for the 2nd out behind Scott.
I then got pinch hitter Scott Fletcher for the 3rd.

I led off the bottom of the 8th against Shawn Hillegas. I grounded out to Barberie at 2nd.

King made it all academic in the top of the 9th with a grand slam

Bobby Thigpen took over after that.

Leading by eight in the 9th inning, Otis Nixon stole 2nd.

That is some bull.

Cubs lead 9-1

We didn't score in the bottom of the 8th.

I went 1 for 4 with a triple and reached-on-error.

All-Star Voting update. I lead at SS. Ruben Sierra is in 3rd for RF.

Then I scored on a single by Frank.
Bad news came after that. Alan was thrown out at the plate and had to leave the game after the collision. I don't know how bad it is.

Stolen base #39.
Ryan scored and I went to 3rd on a single by Tim Criswell, who had replaced Alan.
Tim went to 2nd on a bunt by Frank.
I scored and Tim went to 3rd on a single by Robby.
Tim scored on an error.

Giants lead 10-0

Frank couldn't quite get the complete game. He left with a man on and two out for Mike Scott, who wrapped things up.

I was the Player of the Game (despite Frank pretty much getting a shut out).

5 for 5, all singles. Five runs and a pair of stolen bases to boot.

```````````````````
During our off-day we found out that Alan has a strained hamstring and will likely miss a month.
Greg Myers was called up.
We are home to face the Astros next.
Giants lead 4-3
I came up in the bottom of the 8th with one out and Mark on 1st. I struck out.
I made a great play on a Browne grounder for the 1st out in the 9th.
I took care of a Jose Lind grounder for the 2nd out but pinch hitter Tony Pena scored on the play, and Bobby had blown the save.
Game tied 4-4
It went to extras and Darryl Scott came in to pitch for us.
They got the lead in the 10th when pinch runner Tony Barron scored on a Brogna sac fly.
Astros lead 5-4
The bottom half was ugly.
Ruben Sierra single but then was picked off by catcher, Biggio.
Alvin Davis singled but was thrown out trying to stretch it to 2nd.
We lost a very winnable game.
I went 2 for 4 with a single, a double, a run scored, and a caught stealing.
The Padres come to town before the All-Star break.
I am hitting 6th.
The Padres struck first when Junior Felix tripled and scored on an Eric Young single in the 2nd.
And yes, Young is still ahead of me in steals.
Padres lead 1-0
I came up with on out in the bottom of the inning and singled to right.
Stolen base #39.
We are now tied.
I took 3rd when Tim Criswell reached on an error. We were left on.
I might a great play on a Tony Gwynn grounder for the 2nd out in the 3rd.
But then Hitchcock scored on a George Brett single.
Brett scored on a Darren Daulton double.
Charlie Hayes and Daulton scored on a Junior Felix double.
That was enough for Matt as he pulled Frank for Mike Scott.
Padres lead 5-0
We got one back in the bottom of the 3rd when Harold Baines scored on a Ruben Sierra double play.
Padres lead 5-1
In the 4th Darrell Sherman scored on an Ozzie Guillen single.
Guillen scored on a Robby Thompson error.
Gwynn scored on a Daulton single.
Brett scored on a Felix single.
Padres lead 9-1
Yeah.
I led off the bottom of the 4th by taking a walk.
Then Ryan Klesko walked.
I was thrown out on a double steal attempt.
I am baffled why that was called. We are down by 8. What was Matt thinking?
Scott Service took the ball for us in the 5th.
That inning Sherman scored on a Gwynn single.
After he stole 2nd.
As baffling a decision it was to attempt to steal when down by 8, attempting in when up by 8 is ridiculous. Someone should be wearing a heater.
Padres lead 10-1
I came up with two out in the 6th and walked again.
Stolen base #40.
I didn't call that. Matt must want me to pass Young.
I was left on base.
Pat Combs took the mound for us in the 7th.
We don't give up. Here is our 7th inning.
Tim Criswell - single.
pinch hitter Steve Stanicek - walk.
Harold Baines - walk.
pinch hitter Rance M ulliniks - rbi walk.
Ruben Sierra - sac fly.
Alvin Davis - 3 run homer
I ended up reaching on a fielder's choice before the inning ended.
Padres lead 10-6
Mark Ross relieved in the 8th. Steve stayed in to play centre.
I took care of a Gwynn grounder for the 3rd out in the 9th.
In the bottom of the 9th pinch hitter Craig Grebeck scored on a sac fly by Alvin.
I came up with two out and Ruben on 2nd. Bob Patterson was pitching.
I singled up the middle, moving Ruben to 3rd.
That brought the tying run to the plate.
Bryce Bernadin NEARLY got a pinch hit but Ramon Carabello made a diving stab to take it from him.
We lost.
I went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles, a pair of walks, two stolen bases, and a caught stealing.
I also made an error. I glossed over that part. My 3rd.
With one out and the bases loaded, Matt brought in Pat Combs.
He got a K and then I handled a roundball by Armando Verdugo to get out of it.
Padres lead 5-1
I came up with two out in the bottom of the 7th and reached on an infield single.
Greg Myers walked.
We were left there.
Scott Service took the mound for us in the 8th.
After Scott gave up a 9th inning leadoff hit to Brett, Matt brought in Darryl Scott.
He finished the inning, stranding the runner.
I was standing on deck when the game ended.
I went 1 for 3 with a single.
`````````````````````````

The All-Star Game vote totals were announced. I was voted to start at SS.

It is my fifth straight All-Star selection.

Unfortunately, I am going by myself. No other Giants were picked for the roster.

We need one heck of a second half to be in this thing.

We start in Philadelphia.

The Phillies are pitching Orel Hershiser (6-10, 3.67).

The Giants have Frank Viola (7-6, 3.53).

I have gone 14 for 65, or .215, against Hershiser.

I am hitting seventh.

Bo Jackson was the second batter in the hot half of the 1st. His home run gave the Phils a two run lead.

I took care of a Juan Gonzalez grounder for the 1st out.

Phillies lead 2-0

I came up with two out in the 2nd and popped out to their catcher, Darrin Fletcher.

I next came up with two out in the 5th and flew out two Gonzalez in centre.

I led off the 8th by fouling out to Fletcher again.

In the end, that Bo Knows Homer in the 1st were the only two runs of the game.

I went 0 for 3.

After the game, Greg Myers was sent back down to make room for the returning Timothy McKercher.
