MLB news: Sept. 25 -- Toronto once again rules the AL East
A 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox allowing the Toronto Blue Jays to earn their third straight American League East Division championship and their fourth straight trip to the playoffs.
With an 87-69 record, the Jays lead second-place Baltimore by 7.5 games with six games left on the schedule. Toronto are battling the AL Central champion Minnesota Twins for the second seed in the AL playoffs. The Los Angeles Angels having already sewed up the top spot with their 96-58 record which puts them atop the AL West. Minnesota (87-68) is a half-game in front of the Jays for the second spot. Toronto last made the World Series in 1993, when it won the second of consecutive titles. |

A 7-1 victory over the Washington Nationals sewed up a second consecutive National League Central Division championship for the Cincinnati Reds.
At 95-61, the Reds sit seven games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals with six games left in the regular season. Cincinnati will be the second seed in the upcoming NL playoffs, giving them a first-round bye. Atlanta has already sewn up the overall top seed with its 101-55 record. The Reds also won the NL Central in 2026. They last reached the World Series in 1991, when they swept the heavily-favored Oakland Athletics. |

A 7-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels have earned the Houston Astros a wild-card berth in the upcoming American League playoffs.
The Astros (82-73) currently own the best record of the wild-card contenders, sitting 2.5 games ahead of Baltimore with seven games remaining. Houston sits in second place in the AL West Division, 14 games behind the Angels who will post the best record in the league. The postseason berth is the first for the Astros since 2025. Houston last reached the World Series in 2022, when it defeated the Philadelphia Phillies. |
