Carl Yastrzemski 1961

And, finally, Yaz. His Batters Pack image is pretty excellent, and not just due to the lack of facial shadow. But if I'm posting pics because I want to have the "Red Sox" on display across the chest, how could I leave Yaz out? (Note: a similar mid-size version of this picture was posted by Bearman14 back on page 18 of the thread.)

While certainly not as clear as okcochise's Photoshopped image, here is Reggie in a KC A's hat, from the 1967 Instructional League. The photo was published in the (Phoenix) Arizona Republic on 18-Oct-1967.

Well, at least it's a start.

Thanks, tnfoto. I'm still amazed at the complete lack of coverage for a prominent rookie, playing for a team whose young talent was supposed to be leading them upwards. (The A's got the cover of Sports Illustrated during Spring Training, being as how Alvin Dark had taken them from 10th in '65 to 7th in '66, and they had all this young talent ready to blossom. A couple of years premature, but it's not as though they were wrong. And hey, Dark did win a World Series with this crew…it's just that Finley went through three other managers [Bauer, McNamara, Williams] while Alvin "Take a hike, son, take a hike" Dark was exiled in Cleveland.) Given that the #1 pick in the draft (ugh…Steve Chilcott) wasn't doing anything for the stupid franchise that wasted a #1 overall on a guy who never made the majors (yup, the Metsies), you'd think the #2 would get some coverage, no? Even then, I doubt that Reggie was the shyest flower in the land. Strange.

Is the Kansas City Star not part of Newspaper Archive? (I'm not a subscriber to the archive.) Pity, but thanks for the AFL pic, anyways.

The next best thing, absolutely.

If one has to resort to the airbrush, that's a great job, okcochise. Much better than the straight-on shot I saw, which was an Oakland cap with a square of green surrounding the "KC" logo pasted over the "A"…only problem with that pic was that the pasted-in square protruded above the cap line! At least you know your airbrush skills, or know someone who has some. Well done!

Gene Green - 1961 Washington

I find the photos (or received them from guys like Tony and Scott) and my friend Mark does the airbrushing if needed. I then make the cards.

Don Newcombe - Seasons 58-59-60 - Cincinnati

I wasnt satisfied with the color photo that is available because it is somewhat blurry, especially when enlarging it to fit my card template so Mark was gracious enough to colorize one of the two very nice black and white photos available. It looks excellent.

Charlie Sands 1967 - UNI Angels 1973-74

Speaking of bad airbrush jobs, there's the Charlie Sands/Angels picture in the Batters Pack. Not only did they put on the wrong hat (Sands was a Pirate 1971 and Spring Training 1972, when the Angels wore the "slipped halo" hats with the lowercase "a"), but the "a" on those hats was nowhere near as big as Topps created it in that pic.

This picture of Sands, used for his 1975 Topps card, is (to my knowledge) un-retouched. At least the "A" here looks normal.

Mark has mad skillz, yes.

Very nice colorization work on the Gene Green pics, although my usual hangups (such as hair texture) remain.

However, the socks need to be colored, too. Per Dressed to the Nines:

In fact, if you look closely at the Gene Green pic, you can see that the red and blue parts of the sock come out as different shades of gray in the B/W original.

Sadly, the Senators' socks had an altogether different striping pattern, so colorization won't solve all the problems there. Still excellent work, though. Congratulations to Mark.

1977 Mariners Needed

Anyone have Rick Jones & Tommy Smith.
I'm not happy w/the Airbrush jobs I did and especially the ones that Topps did.

My airbrush updates are below:

1977 Dave Kingman, going once, going twice, going three times

Kingman played for 4 teams in '77. Call him EXTREMELY well traveled. Topps issued a card for him as a Met, where he played until the trade deadline. Here are his updated cards for San Diego, California and the Bronx Bombers.

I just updated the Kingman photo and card for the Yankees due to my extreme dislike if the BHNH shots. Here they are.

Gene Green and Senators Socks

Amazin69, we didnt take the time to do the socks because they are not shown in the card we created. As you can see here, it was not needed. We really didnt need to do the grass either. Colorizing is a very time consuming and sometimes very frustrating pursuit. I myself cannot do it; the few times I tried I went bullestic! LOL Anyway, this is how these two cards came out.

Btw, any more dexter sox photos? I made cards of all 6 of those posted. Thanks

Reggie Jackson 1967 Press Coverage

The Star is part of NewspaperArchive, but only in the public domain era (pre-1923). I searched NewspaperArchive, GenealogyBank and Ancestry, and the image I posted is the clearest newspaper photo available. I do have three other sliding photos from the regular season, but his face is obscured in all three.

Jackson did receive quite a bit of press coverage during 1967, but most of it was related to his Southern League-record 17 triples for Birmingham that year, and the accompanying photos showed him in Birmingham or ASU gear.

Bob Johnson-A's-'60; Senators-'61-'62; Reds-'68

Had I known his nickname was Rocky, I may have found these before now; I had decent options for KC and WASH, but only had B/W photo for Reds so that was a nice find.
