March 2299 - News and Notes - March 14
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 14 March 2299 - Costantino Unavailable Due to Deathclaw Encounter Quincy played tonight's game versus Fort Hagen without revealing why at the time star catcher Stuart Costantino did not play and was not at the game. The reason? He was part of a deathclaw encounter last night, and we are not talking about the team from University Point. Last night, west of South Boston High School, a group went on a walking adventure. Of course, they had to end up in the path of a solo deathclaw. The beast attacked, shots were fired, and three people were injured, including Costantino. No other Gunners players were injured. Publick Occurrences learned of the injury after the game. Gunners coaches refused to speak about Costantino or his injury. Mike Black started in Costantino's place as the Gunners fell 4-3 to the Silver Shroud in the elimination round of the Battle for the South Tournament. Black was 0 for 1 with two walks. Josh Radcake pinch hit for him in the 9th inning.

Three relievers finished the game, allowing just one run in the 9th inning on Po Greenzone's RBI double. Antonio Toeclaw led the Salem hitters, going 2 for 4 with a run and two RBI. Four Hats had a double for all of their team's extra-base hits of their 11 total. BATTLE FOR THE SOUTH TOURNAMENT #12 Sunshine Tidings 3 vs #4 Diamond City 4, 13 inn. The Swatters used the bat of seldom-used outfielder Grant Mercenary to finally rid the Battle of the South of the 12th-seeded team. Mercenary hit a walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the 13th off Ben Soldierman to place Diamond City in the Final Three in the four-hour, 18-minute affair. Wally Warwick and Danny Suarez each hit solo home runs in the bottom of the 8th to give the Swatters a 3-2 lead at the time. Josh Noob was 2 for 3 for the Chemists, both doubles, with an RBI. DC's Tim Fusion allowed two earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in 8.0 innings. #3 Diamond City 6 vs #10 Finch Farm 5 The tired Swatters did not look it to start the game, jumping up 2-0 in the 1st inning and 6-1 in the top of the 2nd in holding off a late surge by the Four Leafs. Even if they're in the loser's bracket, still pulling for the Swatters. Yeah it's preseason, but it'd show they can win something...

2299 Preseason Tournaments - 19 March - Tournament Day 9
BATTLE FOR THE NORTH TOURNAMENT
#7 Salem 9 vs #1 Easy Town 8, 11 inn. Six Canhouse's pinch-hit, solo home run in the top of the 11th proved to be the winning run, sending these two teams to a winner-take-all final. Scott Bregman also hit a pinch-hit home run for the Hats in the top of the 9th to tie the game, 8-8. Chris Treestump drove in three runs for Salem. Ian Brahmin doubled and scored twice. For the Assaultrons, Jarrett Metalbox was 4 for 6 with a double and two RBI. Joe Ransom and Adam Henderson both went yard for Easy Town. Ransom was 3 for 4 with that home run, two walks, two runs, and two RBI. #1 Easy Town 15 vs #7 Salem 6 The host team rallied back from an early 3-0 deficit, scoring 15 of the game's next 16 runs in the championship route. Matt Stoops, Jarrett Metalbox and Bobby Carr each had four hits for the Assaultrons. Carr had a double and home run. Joe Ransom, Looter Knol, and Adam Henderson all homered for Easy Town. Henderson's was a grand slam. Tyler Spronk and Chris Treestump both homered for the Witch Hats. Without a rested starting pitcher available for the game, Salem experimented with an all-reliever staff on the day, which proved to be a losing affair. Starting pitcher Dustin Hebert had to be pulled after allowing two hits and a walk in the top of the 1st before Little Rat Swickard helped Salem escape unscathed. BATTLE FOR THE SOUTH TOURNAMENT #3 Diamond City 10 vs #1 Goodneighbor 2 Wayne Lacy and Wally Warwick hit back-to-back 1st inning home runs to put the Swatters up for good. Lacy finished the game 3 for 5 with two doubles, a home run, three runs, and three RBI. Witcher Craft added three more hits for DC with a double, a home run, two runs, and an RBI. Mark Stuhlsatz pitched 7.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout. Reigning CBO MVP Bryan Assman hit a 1st-inning solo shot. It would have been two-run homer, but one pitch before Stuhlsatz tried to pick off Good Don Duck at third but threw it past 3B Allen Bishop to score the Hancocks' first run on an error. Due to Assman's homer, that run was earned. #1 Goodneighbor 3 vs #3 Diamond City 6 The Swatters stole the championship from the host Hancocks thanks to another big 1st inning. This time, Diamond City scored four runs all with two outs. Witcher Craft and Allen Bishop started the game with singles off Goodneighbor starter Quincy Eloquent. With two outs, Jeffery Curatolo singled to load the bases, and Prince Billingsley followed up with a two-RBI single for the 2-0 lead. After Danny Suarez singled to load the bases again, Jazz Stockton hit the sixth single of the inning to drive in Curatolo and Billingsley and the difference in the game. A tired X10-44 Mannson started the game for Diamond City, but only could manage 3.1 innings of work, allowing two earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Burt Oldshoe worked 3.2 innings in relief to earn the win. Bryan Assman led the Hancocks in hits with three. Burtie Cuttooth homered for Goodneighbor.

They did it! I'm sure they would take winning that thrilling Game 5 in the SCA Semifinals last season, but they were able to beat Goodneighbor twice despite their pitching being tired.

Just want to say this is a very creative and interesting dynasty report... you are some kind of good writer.
I just happened to see your name, so I checked it out... hope you don't mind, but I probably will "steal" some of your creative ideas. |

Took me a minute to see that you weren't just posting the same images again and again. Anywho, let's hope Quartz can still win it just like the Swatters did.

March 2299 - News and Notes - March 23
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 23 March 2299 - Atom's Stabb Returns, Requires Changes The Atom Cats' Shane Stabb has returned to the team with a condition before he agreed to play again: drop the Atom-centric nicknames. With only two players still in the Cats' organization from the original "Nifty Five," Stabb has said the weight of carrying a nickname does not help him to focus on the game. Citing himself and Greg "Jets" Walsh as having nicknames affecting their effectiveness, Stabb asked that the names "Bee's Knees" and "Jets" get dropped. One other player, Jeff "Baywatch" Fischler, who got the nickname after saving a near-drowner, have all agreed that their nicknames will not be used for official game names. Stabb started losing playing time last season to then-rookie Guru Bean, prompting him to become increasingly unhappy on a team that had trouble winning ball games. 23 March 2299 - Oberland Gets Stadium Update While it is not ready for play in 2299, Oberland's own stadium will be ready by the start of the 2300 season. "We're looking to break in the stadium by defending our championship there next year," T-51s manager Y4-25 Godlike said. "We would have loved to play there sometime this season, but we can be patient." The T-51s will begin their fourth season in existence playing at Graygarden across the Charles River. "It's not that far away, but it is far enough," Godlike said. "Once we cleared out the area next to the river and built up the levee there, then we knew we could have a stadium of our own." Contractors said that the latest maximum date of completion would be April 1, 2300. 23 March 2299 - Concord to Hold Literary Festival to Coincide with Home Opener The Concord Radstags will play regular season home games to open the 2299 season against The Slog Ghouls and the Easy Town Assaultrons on March 4-7. At the same time, the city of Concord will hold its first Literary Festival to honor great writers in Concord history. While those writers had been long dead and forgotten, recent discoveries in pre-War books have made the historical Concord writers popular again. The main writers include Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Louisa May Alcott, and Henry David Thoreau. "We have a rich history here," Concord mayor Sturges Freeman said. "Not only have we recently restored the Museum of Freedom to honor the American Revolution, but we have devoted an entire wing to the great writers of Boston and its surrounding areas. Knowing we had some of the world's greatest writers right here makes sense that Concord is the world's 'biggest little place in America.'" Concord's town square will feature banners of the famous writers, as well as special reenactments of some of their famous works. Visiting fans will be encouraged to view the baseball games and stay for the entirety of the festival. "We're building buildings every day," Freeman said, "but we're not always building culture. Let's hope a festival like this will convince people not only to visit but to stay."
