American League Championship Series Game 1
![]() 1932 New York Yankees vs. 1939 New York Yankees ![]() Game 1 of the American League Championship Series features the 1932 New York Yankees against the 1939 New York Yankees in what is sure to be an instant classic. The 1932 club will start Lefty Gomez (1-1, 4.79). Gomez finished the regular season with a mark of 19-8, with a 2.99 ERA, but has had a rough go of it in the postseason. He suffered a loss to the 1970 Baltimore Orioles in the 1st round, followed by a no decision start in the 2nd round series against the 1913 Philadelphia Athletics. His first victory in the playoffs was five days ago against the 1953 New York Yankees. On the mound for the 1939 team is Marius Russo (3-1, 3.25). Russo was 18-10 in the regular season, with a 4.27 ERA. After going 1-1 against the 1921 New York Yankees in the first round, Russo picked up wins against the 1936 New York Yankees and 1989 Oakland A's in the 2nd round and American League Semi-Finals. The '32 Yankees wasted no time getting on the board. With one out in the top of the 1st, Earle Combs singles off Russo, who then walks both Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. Tony Lazzeri would then fly out to center. Combs tags up at third and is able to beat the throw to the plate to give the '32 Yankees a 1-0 lead. The lead would last until the bottom of the 2nd inning. George Selkirk leads off with a base hit and advances to third on Bill Dickey's base knock to right field. He would later score on Tommy Henrich's sac fly to deep left, tying the game, 1-1. The '39 Yankees would take the lead in the bottom of the 4th on a Joe Gordon two run shot to right, giving the '39 team the 3-1 advantage. But the '32 club chipped away at the lead. In the top of the 5th, Lyn Lary would score on a fielder's choice to cut the lead to 3-2. The game would be tied again in the top of the 6th. Lazzeri draws a walk against Russo, his sixth of the game. Dickey would double to right, ending the night early for Russo, as he heads to the showers. Bump Hadley (0-0, 2.08, 2 G, 4.1 IP) is brought in to hold the lead, but he walks Samuel Byrd to load the bases, then hits Joe Sewell to allow the tying run to cross the plate. The '32 Yankees had momentum on their side and they took the lead in the top of the 8th. After a Sewell ground out, Hadley's control woes resurface, as he hits Lary and walks Ben Chapman, ending his time on the mound. Atley Donald (0-0, 2.45, 7 G, 3.2 IP) is brought in to pitch, but he gives up a single to Combs. Lary is able to beat the throw home from left field and the '32 Yankees have a 4-3 lead. We head into the 9th inning and Jumbo Brown (3-0, 1.93, 1 BSv, 9 G, 14 IP) is in to save the game. Gordon steps up and delivers a base hit into right center to get things started for the '39 club. Henrich flies out to left center for the first out, bringing up pitch hitter Buddy Rosar (.154, 0 HR, 5 RBI, 35 G, 91 AB). This is Rosar's second appearance in the postseason and his first at bat. Rosar makes contact with the ball, grounding it deep in the hole at short. Lary makes the throw, but Rosar is able to beat it out for the infield single!! Frankie Crosetti steps into the batters box and hits the ball deep in the hole at short, but he can't outrun the throw by Lary. Crosetti is the second out, but the runners advance. So, with two out and runners on second and third, up comes Charlie Keller. Keller wastes no time and hits the first pitch thrown by Brown, blooping it into left field. Gordon scores easily and Rosar rounds third. By the time Byrd gets to the ball, there's no throw to be made, as Rosar scores easily to win the game!!! 1939 New York Yankees 5 1932 New York Yankees 4 '39 Yankees lead series 1-0

National League Championship Series Game 1
![]() 1975 Cincinnati Reds vs. 1969 New York Mets ![]() Game 1 of the National League Championship Series features the 1975 Cincinnati Reds against the 1969 New York Mets. Cincinnati is sending Pat Darcy (3-1, 0.90) to the mound today to face the New York's Tom Seaver (1-1, 4.44). The Mets waste little time, scoring in the bottom of the 1st. After Tommie Agee flies out to center, Cleon Jones gets on first with a base hit into left field. Art Shamsky doubles to right center, moving Jones to third. Donn Clendenon would ground out to short, 6-3, but Jones would score on the play. Ken Boswell then delivers a double into right center, scoring Shamsky and giving the Mets an early 2-0 advantage. The score would remain the same until Cincinnati takes the lead in the top of the 5th. Ken Griffey Sr. leads the inning off with a line drive over the second baseman's head. Cesar Geronimo would deliver a base hit, grounding it past second as well and moving Griffey to third. Darcy would sacrifice, bunting to move Geronimo to second. With one out and men on second and third, Dave Concepcion takes the first pitch he sees and hits a double into right field, scoring both men and tying the game!! Pete Rose steps in and hits the ball into right center. The base hit scores Concepcion, giving the Reds the lead, but Rose is thrown out at second trying to stretch. Joe Morgan walks, but is thrown out trying to steal second and ends the inning. Reds lead 3-2. New York would answer in the bottom of the 5th. Agee doubles to center and scores on Jones' single past the shortstop, tying the game 3-3. Agee would score again, two innings later, when he hits a home run over the left field wall on the second pitch from relief pitcher Will McEnaney (1-0, 1.08, 7 G, 8.1 IP). With a 4-3 lead going into the top of the 9th, Tug McGraw (1-1, 1.46, 10 Sv, 12 G, 12.1 IP) is brought in to save the game. McGraw gets Johnny Bench to lead the inning off and Bench flies out to center for the first out. George Foster steps in and doubles into left center, representing the tying run. Tony Perez comes up and goes down swinging for the second out. Griffey Sr. is able to draw a walk, putting men on first and second with two outs. Geronimo steps up to bat and grounds it to the shortstop, who takes it unassisted to second base for the force out. 1969 New York Mets 4 1975 Cincinnati Reds 3 '69 Mets lead series 1-0

American League Championship Series Game 2
After losing Game 1, the 1932 New York Yankees are looking for revenge against the 1939 New York Yankees in Game 2 of this series. Starting for the '32 squad is George Pipgras (0-1, 4.68), while Monte Pearson (2-0, 7.47) is getting the start for the '39 team. There is no scoring in the first two frames, but that changes in the 3rd inning.
Joe Sewell leads off the top of the 3rd with a ground out to second, but Lyn Lary gets on base with a single to right. Lary moves to second when Ben Chapman delivers a base knock between third and short. Earle Combs groundout 3-1 advances the runners. Lou Gehrig comes up with two outs and fouls off the first pitch he sees. He's all over the second pitch, though, driving it deep into center field. How deep? Try 480 feet and over the wall!! Babe Ruth would fly out to center to end the inning, but the '32 Yankees lead it 3-0. The '39 Yankees would chip away at the lead in the bottom half of the 3rd. With two outs, Frankie Crosetti would single to right, steal second, move to third on a passed ball and score on Charlie Keller's base hit to right. '32 Yankees lead 3-1. In the bottom of the 4th, Joe DiMaggio would lead off the inning with a 466 foot solo shot into left center to cut the lead down to 3-2. But Lyn Lary would recover the run, hitting a 480 foot shot to center field to make the score 4-2 in the top of the 5th. Tony Lazzeri would hit a sac fly to center in the top of the 8th to score Chapman and give the '32 Yankees a comfortable 5-2 lead going into the 9th. Did I say comfortable? Well, things got real uncomfortable in the bottom of the 9th for the '32 team. Herb Pennock (1-0, 2.45, 8 G, 11 IP, 1 BSv) is brought in to pitch the inning. Bill Dickey leads things off for the '39 Yankees with a single, grounding the ball between first and second. Joe Gordon would fly out to center for the first out. Tommy Henrich draws a walk, bringing Joe Gallagher to the plate. Gallagher works a full count, then hits the ball 409 feet into left field and over the wall for a three run home run, tying the game 5-5!! Ed Wells (2-0, 0.00, 8 G, 11.1 IP) comes in to stop the momentum. Unfortunately for Wells, Crosetti is able to reach first on an infield hit, beating out the throw from short. Keller then lines the ball over first for a single. Red Rolfe steps to the plate and gets the count to 3-1. Seeing his pitch, Rolfe lines it into right and over the wall for the three run, walk off, home run!!! The '39 Yankees score six runs in the bottom of the 9th to steal this one! 1939 New York Yankees 8 1932 New York Yankees 5 '39 Yankees lead series 2-0

National League Championship Series Game 2
We're ready for Game 2 of the National League Championship Series between the 1975 Cincinnati Reds and the 1969 New York Mets. The Mets lead the series 1-0 on a 4-3 win in Game 1. Cincinnati is looking to even the series by sending Don Gullett (2-3, 4.28) to the mound. New York starts Jerry Koosman (5-0, 1.35), who has been practically untouchable in the postseason. The Reds strike first in this one, when Johnny Bench hits a solo shot into left to give his team a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd.
The Mets would regain the lead in the bottom of the 3rd, however. Ed Charles leads the inning off with a walk and moves to second on Koosman's sac bunt. Tommie Agee delivers a base hit past short, scoring Charles and tying the game 1-1. Cleon Jones comes up and draws a walk and Art Shamsky singles to load the bases. Donn Clendenon would hit a sac fly to right, allowing Agee to score from third and giving the Mets the lead. Ken Boswells single to right would score Jones from second to make it 3-1 Mets. Jerry Grote strikes out looking to end the inning. Mets lead 3-1. New York would add to it's lead in the bottom of the 5th, when Clendenon hits a three run shot over the left field wall to make it 6-1. Gullet is chased and Jack Billingham (0-0, 2.08, 4 G, 4.1 IP) comes in to pitch. Billingham quickly strikes out two batters to end the inning, but the damage is done. Mets lead 6-1. New York would blow the game wide open in the bottom of the 6th. Bud Harrelson leads off the inning with a double to right and would score on Ed Charles base hit. Koosman would again sacrifice Charles to second. Agee gets an infield hit, moving Charles to third. Agee then steals second, while Jones gets hit by a pitch to load the bases. Art Shamsky takes the first pitch he sees from Billingham and hits a GRAND SLAM over the wall in right center. Billingham is relieved of his duties, as Clay Kirby (0-0, 0.00, 3 G, 5.2 IP) is brought in to strike out the final two batters of the inning. Mets lead 11-1. The Mets would add another run in the 7th and Joe Morgan would hit a two run homer in the 8th, but the game is over. 1969 New York Mets 12 1975 Cincinnati Reds 3 '69 Mets lead series 2-0

American League Championship Series Game 3
It's time for Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. The 1939 New York Yankees are the road team now as they face off against the 1932 New York Yankees. The '39 Yankees lead this series two games to none. Lefty Gomez (1-4, 2.91) is on the mound for the '39 team, while Red Ruffing (1-2, 2.59) gets the start for the '32 squad.
The '39 Yankees would get on the scoreboard in the top of the 2nd, as Bill Dickey goes 442 feet deep into right center, giving his team a 1-0 advantage. The '32 Yankees would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a single and double, but they can't cross the plate, so the lead holds. The score would remain 1-0 until the 7th inning. With one out in the top of the 7th, Tommy Henrich draws a walk, then advances to third on Joe Gallagher's double to center. Frankie Crosetti goes down swinging for the second out. Charlie Keller steps into the batter's box and sends the ball into right field toward Babe Ruth. Ruth mishandles the ball for a two base error and both base runners score!! Red Rolfe strikes out to end the inning, but the '39 Yankees now hold a 3-0 lead. The '32 Yankees manage a single in the bottom of the 7th, but no more. The '39 team plates two more runs in the 8th, as Gomez pitches a three hitter over eight innings. Ruffing only allows four hits over 7.1 innings and strikes out 10, but he takes the loss with his three earned runs. 1939 New York Yankees 5 1932 New York Yankees 0 '39 Yankees lead series 3-0

National League Championship Series Game 3
Game 3 of the National League Championship Series has the 1969 New York Mets on the road against the 1975 Cincinnati Reds. The Reds have lost both games to the Mets so far and are looking to turn things around at home. New York sends Tom Seaver (2-1, 4.19) to the mound, which doesn't make sense, as Seaver was the Game 1 starter and will likely have a tough time on only two days rest. Cincinnati sends Gary Nolan (0-0, 8.39). Nolan has had a tough time in every postseason start thus far, but miraculously hasn't earned a loss.
The Mets come out swinging in the top of the 1st. Tommie Agee leads the game off with a single to left and later scores on Don Clendenon's double down the third base line. Mets lead 1-0. New York would score again in the 2nd, when Bud Harrelson gets on base compliments of Pete Rose's error at third. Harrelson would then score when Seaver sends the ball down the left field line for a double. With the Mets leading 2-0, the Reds decide they've had enough and turn on the Big Red Machine. In the bottom of the 2nd, George Foster and Tony Perez hit back-to-back home runs to tie the game 2-2. But the Machine was just getting primed and it showed it's true power in the bottom of the 4th. Foster leads the inning off with his second homer of the game. As Seaver loads the bases with a single, double and intentional walk, Nolan helps his own cause by delivering a bases clearing triple to right center!!! Seaver's night is over, as he fails to register an out in the 4th inning. Bob Johnson (0-0, 3.43, 1 Sv, 17 G, 21 IP) is brought in for his first postseason appearance. Unfortunately for him, it didn't go well. Dave Concepcion records the first out on a line out to second and Pete Rose records the second out on a sac fly that scores Nolan. Then things got worse. Joe Morgan singles to center and steals second. Johnny Bench and Foster both walk, loading the bases. Perez steps in and hits the first pitch over the left field wall for the GRAND SLAM!!! And Johnson's night is over, as the Reds have built an 11-2 lead. Cincinnati would score two more times in the 5th and both teams would plate runs in the 7th. Cleon Jones hits a three run shot in the 8th, but Joe Morgan counters with a two run shot in the bottom half of the inning. Each team commits three errors in this one, while Perez is named Player of the Game with a 4 for 4 performance, with 6 RBI and 3 runs scored. 1975 Cincinnati Reds 17 1969 New York Mets 6 '69 Mets lead series 2-1

American League Championship Series Game 4
The teams are ready for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. The 1939 New York Yankees are looking to sweep the 1932 New York Yankees. Red Ruffing (6-0, 1.88) is on the mound for the '39 Yankees, so things look promising for them to do just that. The '32 Yankees have chosen Johnny Allen (1-1, 4.55) to pitch today.
Scoring starts in the 1st inning. The top of the 1st starts out with Charlie Keller striking out, but Red Rolfe draws a walk for the '39 club. Joe DiMaggio steps in and hits a single to left center, moving Rolfe to second. George Selkirk is up next and he's plunked, so the bases are loaded. Bill Dickey grounds out to second, but Rolfe is able to score. Joe Gordon strikes out to end the inning and the '39 Yankees lead 1-0. But the '32 Yankees have an answer in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, Lou Gehrig singles a ground past the shortstop. Babe Ruth then singles to right, moving Gehrig to third. Tony Lazzeri steps up and hits a grounder deep into the hole between short and third. He legs it out and beats the throw for the infield single, allowing Gehrig to score. Bill Dickey flies out to end the inning and the game is tied 1-1. The '39 Yankees get on the board again in the top of the 3rd. Rolfe leads off the inning with a double to right center. DiMaggio lines out to third and Selkirk flies out to center to make it two outs. Dickey then delivers a base hit to score Rolfe from second, giving his team the 2-1 lead. Gordon draws a walk, but Tommy Henrich goes down swinging to end the inning. The '32 Yankees have the answer, again, in the bottom half of the 3rd. Earle Combs grounds out 3-1, but Gehrig comes up and singles to right. Babe Ruth bloops a hit over the second baseman to move Gehrig to second, while Lazzeri draws a walk to load the bases. Dickey steps up and sends the ball deep to left for a sac fly, scoring Gehrig. Samuel Byrd goes down swinging to end the inning, but the game is again tied, 2-2. The '39 Yankees take the lead again in the top of the 5th on Selkirk's solo shot to right to make it 3-2. Gordon then delivers an inside-the-park homer in the top of the 6th to make it 4-2. The '32 Yankees, however, refuse to go down without a fight. In the bottom of the 7th, Combs leads off the inning with a single to right center. Gehrig doubles down the left field line, moving Combs to third. Ruth bloops a hit over the shortstop, which scores Combs and Gehrig and chases Ruffing from the mound. With the game now tied 4-4, the '39 Yankees bring in Spud Chandler (1-1, 4.50, 1 Sv, 7 G, 12 IP). Chandler gets Lazzeri to fly out to center for one out, but gives up a base hit to Dickey. Ruth moves to second and is pulled for pinch runner Myril Hoag. Byrd comes up and hits the ball to left center for a single and the third base coach waves Hoag around. The throw to the plate......and Hoag is SAFE!!! Joe Sewell ends the inning on a 4-6-3 double play, but the '32 Yankees have taken the lead, 5-4. Jumbo Brown (3-1, 3.07, 2 BSv, 10 G, 14.2 IP) comes in to save the game for the '32 team. Brown gets Keller to go down swinging for one out, but issues a walk to Rolfe. DiMaggio flies out to right for the second out, but Brown issues a free pass to Selkirk to put two men on base. Dickey steps into the batters box and proceeds to fly out to left to end the game and give the '32 Yankees their first series victory. 1932 New York Yankees 5 1939 New York Yankees 4 '39 Yankees lead series 3-1

National League Championship Series Game 4
We're back and ready for Game 4 of the National League Championship Series. The 1969 New York Mets are challenging the 1975 Cincinnati Reds, with the Mets looking to build on their 2-1 series lead. Nolan Ryan (2-0, 0.76) is on the hill for New York, while Pat Darcy (3-1, 1.50) gets the nod for Cincinnati. The Mets waste no time getting men on base. In the top of the 1st inning, Tommie Agee leads it off with a walk. Cleon Jones does the same and Art Shamsky loads the bases with a single. Donn Clendenon works up a full count and connects, ripping the ball hard to short. Unfortunately, he lined it straight to Dave Concepcion, who rifles it to Joe Morgan at second. Morgan relays it to Tony Perez at first and the Reds have pulled off the 6-4-3 TRIPLE PLAY to end the inning!!!
The Reds take the momentum into the bottom of the inning. Concepcion lines out to third for one out, followed by Pete Rose's 4-3 ground out. But Morgan comes up and delivers a double into right center field. Johnny Bench hits an RBI single to score Morgan and the Reds lead 1-0. George Foster would ground out 6-4 fielder's choice to end the inning. Cincinnati would break the game open in the bottom of the 2nd. Perez, Ken Griffey Sr. and Cesar Geronimo all walk, loading the bases with no outs. Ryan is having control issues, as he throws a wild pitch to score Perez and then walks Darcy to load them up again. Another wild pitch scores Griffey. Concepcion hits a sac fly to center to score Geronimo. Rose singles, as does Morgan, scoring another run for the Reds. After walking Bench, Foster hits another sac fly to center and Ryan's night is over after 1 2/3 innings. Cal Koonce (0-0, 2.70, 2 G, 3.1 IP) comes in and gets the last out, but the Reds now lead 6-0. It took a couple of innings, but Cincinnati gets to Koonce in the bottom of the 4th. After Rose grounds out to short, Morgan hits a home run 412 feet into right center. Bench singles and comes home when Foster hits a two run shot measuring 422 feet and over the left field wall. Now leading 9-0, the Reds coast the rest of the game, allowing the Mets to score only one run in the top of the 8th. 1975 Cincinnati Reds 9 1969 New York Mets 1 Series tied 2-2

American League Championship Series Game 5
Time for Game 5 of the American League Championship Series between the 1939 New York Yankees and the 1932 New York Yankees. The '39 team leads the series 3-1. Starting for the '39 Yankees is Marius Russo (3-1, 3.58). On the mound for the '32 Yankees is Lefty Gomez (1-1, 4.40). The first score is by the '32 squad in the bottom of the 2nd inning, when Bill Dickey doubles down the line in right and later manages to score on Ben Chapman's fly out to left. 1932 Yankees lead 1-0.
The score would remain the same as we head into the 7th. In the bottom half of the frame, Joe Sewell starts the inning by grounding out 4-3. Lyn Lary comes up and singles, followed by Chapman drawing a walk. A passed ball advances the runners to second and third, with one out. Earle Combs comes up and grounds out to second. The runners hold, but Russo's night has come to an end. Spud Chandler (1-1, 3.86, 8 G, 14 IP) is brought into the game to face Lou Gehrig. Gehrig doesn't disappoint, connecting on the first pitch and sending it over the right field wall for a three run homer. Babe Ruth strikes out to end the inning, but the '32 Yankees now lead 4-0. The '39 Yankees' bats would come alive in the top of the 8th as they mount a rally. Tommy Henrich walks, but Babe Dahlgren flies out to right for the first out. Frankie Crosetti is hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second. Charlie Keller draws a walk to load the bases, as Red Rolfe strides up to the plate. Rolfe, however, goes down swinging for out number two. Regardless, Gomez is pulled in favor of Herb Pennock (1-0, 4.85, 2 BSv, 10 G, 13 IP). Pennock is facing Joe DiMaggio and DiMaggio wins this battle, grounding the ball past the second baseman and into right field. Two runs score to cut the lead to 4-2. Pennock would get George Selkirk to fly out to left, however, to end the inning and the rally. Jumbo Brown (3-1, 2.87, 1 Sv, 2 BSv, 11 G, 15.2 IP) is brought in to close the game out in the top of the 9th. Brown gets Dickey to ground out to first, 3-1. Joe Gordon flies out to right for the second out. Henrich draws a walk, bringing up Joe Gallagher as the tying run. But Gallagher goes down looking at a strike, ending the game and giving Brown his second save of the postseason. 1932 New York Yankees 4 1939 New York Yankees 2 '39 Yankees lead series 3-2

National League Championship Series Game 5
Welcome to Game 5 of the National League Championship Series. We're in Cincinnati, where the 1969 New York Mets are facing off against the 1975 Cincinnati Reds. The series is tied 2-2, with the home team winning every game thus far. New York is starting Jim McAndrew (1-2, 4.74) and Cincinnati decides to go with Fred Norman (1-1, 2.25) on the mound. The game was a pitcher's duel, with no scoring until the 6th inning.
In the bottom of the 6th with two outs, Joe Morgan works a full count and then connects with the ball, driving it deep into center field and over the wall for a home run!! The homer measured 421 feet and is only the fourth hit of the day for the Reds. The Mets, however, have only one hit through six innings. To the bottom of the 8th we go, as the Reds are looking to pad their slim lead. Dave Concepcion grounds a single past the shortstop to lead the inning off. Pete Rose strikes out and Morgan flies out to right to record two quick outs. But Johnny Bench drives the ball into right center for a base hit, which advances Concepcion to third base. George Foster then doubles into right center to score both runners and give Cincinnati a 3-0 lead. It's the top of the 9th and the Mets last chance in this game. Norman is still pitching and he strikes out the first batter, Duffy Dyer. But he's pulled in favor of Rawly Eastwick (3-1, 0.73, 4 Sv, 10 G, 12.1 IP), as the game's too close to chance it. Tommie Agee singles off of Eastwick to get things going and Cleon Jones walks. Just when you thought you made the right decision....well, actually, it was the right choice. The next batter, Art Shamsky, grounds the ball to Tony Perez, who rifles it to Concepcion at second, who returns the favor for Perez. 3-6-3 double play and it's over. Fred Norman pitched a hell of a game, throwing 8 1/3 innings, allowing only one hit, while striking out 14 and walking one. 1975 Cincinnati Reds 3 1969 New York Mets 0 '75 Reds lead the series 3-2

American League Championship Series Game 6
We're back for Game 6 of the American League Championship Series. The 1932 New York Yankees, winners of the last two games, but down 3-2 in the series, are ready for the 1939 New York Yankees, who are looking to close the series out. George Pipgras (0-1, 4.09) gets the start for the '32 team. Monte Pearson (2-0, 6.75) is on the mound for the '39 squad.
Scoring starts in the top of the 3rd inning. Lyn Lary starts the inning off with a walk. Ben Chapman doubles to center, moving Lary to third base. Earle Combs draws a walk to load it up. Lou Gehrig steps up to the plate and drives the ball deep to center. It's a sac fly, but it's deep enough to score Lary. Babe Ruth strikes out for the second out. Tony Lazzeri also walks, but the inning ends on Bill Dickey's ground out to second. '32 Yankees lead 1-0. The '39 Yankees get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th. George Selkirk leads off the inning with a walk. Bill Dickey (the '39 version) grounds the ball into right field. Selkirk rounds second and is able to beat the throw to third. With no outs and men on the corners, Joe Gordon lifts it to right field for the first out. Tommy Henrich then grounds the ball to short. The '32 squad gets the out at second, but they can't turn the double play and Selkirk scores from third to tie the game. Babe Dahlgren singles past short to put men on first and second with two outs, but Frankie Crosetti grounds out 6-3 to end the inning. Game tied 1-1. The score remains tied until the top of the 7th, as Joe Sewell hits a solo shot over the right field wall, giving the '32 Yankees a 2-1 lead. The lead would hold as we go into the bottom of the 9th inning. Jumbo Brown (3-1, 2.70, 2 Sv, 2 BSv, 12 G, 16.2 IP) comes into the game to close it out. Crosetti steps up and flies out to center for out number one. But Brown walks Charlie Keller and Red Rolfe, putting two runners on with Joe DiMaggio at the plate. DiMaggio works the count full, then grounds the ball between first and second. The runners advance and the bases are loaded for Selkirk. Brown manages to strike out Selkirk, so now there are two outs with the bases loaded. Dickey steps into the batter's box. He takes the first pitch from Brown and lines it into right. Keller scores and Rolfe is being waved around third. The throw to the plate is NOT in time and Rolfe scores the winning run!!! Lou Gehrig is named the Series MVP, although he played for the losing team. Gehrig hit .409 in the series with two homers and eight RBI. 1939 New York Yankees 3 1932 New York Yankees 2 '39 Yankees win the series 4-2

National League Championship Series Game 6
It's time for Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. We're back in New York, where the 1975 Cincinnati Reds are looking to close out this series against the 1969 New York Mets. The Reds lead the series 3-2, but the home team has won every game, so things are looking good for the Mets. Starting the game on the mound for the Reds is Don Gullett (2-4, 5.40). On the hill for the Mets is Jerry Koosman (6-0, 1.34). New York wastes no time in this one, scoring in the bottom of the 1st.
Tommie Agee leads off the bottom half of the 1st by popping up to third base. Cleon Jones singles past short and moves to third on Art Shamsky's base hit to right center. Donn Clendenon strikes out for the second out, bringing up Ken Boswell. Boswell delivers a base knock into center field, scoring Jones. Jerry Grote flies out to right to end the inning, but the Mets lead it 1-0. New York would add to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd. Jones leads the inning off with a double to left field. Shamsky goes down swinging for out number one and Clendenon grounds out to short for out number two. Boswell does it again, though, grounding a ball between short and third, scoring Jones and giving the Mets a 2-0 advantage. Cincinnati would reply, though, in the top of the 4th. After Dave Concepcion's strikeout, Pete Rose doubles to left. Joe Morgan steps up and hits a grounder between first and second. Rose rounds third and beats the throw to the plate, cutting the lead in half. Morgan advances to second on the throw home. Johnny Bench flies out to center and Morgan advances to third, but George Foster can't connect and goes down on strikes to end the inning. Mets lead 2-1. The Mets responded in the bottom half of the 4th. Bud Harrelson doubles down the third base line to lead things off. Ed Charles strikes out looking and Koosman goes down swinging for two quick outs. Tommie Agee steps up to the plate takes a 1-0 pitch deep into left for a home run!! Jones flies out to right to end the inning, but the Mets have built their lead to 4-1. Art Shamsky hits a first pitch homer over the right field wall in the bottom of the 5th to end Gullett's night. Koosman shuts down the big red machine and we're headed for Game 7. 1969 New York Mets 5 1975 Cincinnati Reds 1 Series tied 3-3

National League Championship Series Game 7
It's time for Game 7 of the National League Championship Series. We're in New York, where the 1975 Cincinnati Reds are taking on the 1969 New York Mets. The home team has won every game in this series, so things are looking good for the Mets. Cincinnati sends Gary Nolan (1-0, 7.52) to the mound. New York is starting Tom Seaver (2-2, 5.54).
Scoring starts with the Mets in the bottom of the 1st inning. Tommie Agee picks up right where he left off in Game 6, leading the inning off on a 1-1 pitch he drives over the wall in left. After Cleon Jones and Art Shamsky record two outs, Donn Clendenon singles to left field. Ken Boswell follows up with an infield single and Jerry Grote gets the ball past second for a base hit to load the bases. Bud Harrelson draws a walk to score Clendenon, but the inning ends on Ed Charles' fly out to left. Mets lead 2-0. The Reds would get on the board in the 3rd inning. With two outs, Dave Concepcion drives the ball over the center fielder's head and ends up at third with a triple! Pete Rose singles him home and the Met's lead is cut to 2-1. New York would answer in the bottom of the 4th. With one out, Harrelson hits a liner past second for a single. Charles doubles to center and Harrelson is able to beat the throw home, giving the Mets the 3-1 advantage. But the Reds weren't done yet. In the top of the 6th, Rose leads off the inning by getting plunked. With Rose on first, Joe Morgan hits a double down the right field line, moving Rose to third. Johnny Bench steps up to the plate and delivers a base hit to right, scoring both runners and tying the game 3-3!! All this and no outs. But George Foster strikes out, Tony Perez pops out and Ken Griffey strikes out to take care of that. The score stays tied as we go to the 8th inning. In the top of the 8th, Rose leads off the inning with a base hit past second. Morgan draws a walk, putting two men on with no outs. Bench comes up and delivers again, driving the ball over the left field wall for the three run homer!!! The Reds lead 6-3 and Seaver is done for the day. Jack DiLauro (1-0, 1.93, 6 G, 4.2 IP) comes in and shuts Foster, Perez and Griffey down. The score is still 6-3 as we head for the bottom of the 9th. The Reds bring in none other than Rawly Eastwick (3-1, 0.69, 4 Sv, 11 G, 13 IP) to close this game out and send their team to the World Series. Bud Harrelson leads the inning off with a base hit, though, grounding it past first. Ed Charles goes down swinging for the first out, bringing up pinch hitter Ron Swoboda. Swoboda hits the ball, but flies out to left for the second out. So, with two outs and a man on first, Tommie Agee steps up and promptly doubles to left field. Harrelson scores, giving the Mets new life!! Bench allows a passed ball, allowing Agee to move to third. Cleon Jones is in the batter's box and represents the tying run. He works the count full and then hits the ball hard!! Unfortunately for Mets fans, Jones lines out to third for the final out. Joe Morgan is named Series MVP after hitting .429, with 4 homers, 9 RBI and 10 runs scored. 1975 Cincinnati Reds 6 1969 New York Mets 4 '75 Reds win series 4-3

World Series Game 1
It's time for the final series. The series to end all series. The series to determine the greatest World Series team of all time. Okay, maybe it's not that dramatic, but it is the World Series. We're down to the final two teams. Representing the National League, the 1975 Cincinnati Reds!! The Reds will challenge the American League champion, the 1939 New York Yankees!!!
![]() VS ![]() The Game 1 starter for the Reds is Pat Darcy, who was 12-8 in the regular season with a 4.33 ERA. Darcy has been pitching much better in the postseason, going 4-1 with a 1.32 ERA. On the mound for the Yankees is Lefty Gomez. Gomez was 17-11 with a 2.20 ERA in the regular season. He's pitched just as well in the postseason, putting up a 2.45 ERA, but only a 2-4 record. The first two innings were scoreless, but that ends in the bottom of the 3rd inning, with the 1939 Yankees breaking out the bats. Tommy Henrich walks to start the inning, as does Babe Dahlgren. Frankie Crosetti grounds out to third, 5-3, which advances the runners. Charlie Keller then walks to load the bases with one out. Red Rolfe steps up and delivers a base hit past the second baseman, scoring Henrich. Joe DiMaggio comes up to the plate and cracks a single into left to score Dahlgren. George Selkirk is the second out on the 3-6 fielder's choice, but it scores Keller to make it 3-0. Bill Dickey then steps into the batters box and hits a double down the right field line, plating two more runs for the Yankees. Gomez would keep the Red's bats silent and New York would add one more run in the 6th inning. Gomez pitches a complete game, holding Cincinnati to three hits, while striking out three and walking four. 1939 New York Yankees 6 1975 Cincinnati Reds 0 '39 Yankees lead series 1-0

World Series Game 2
The World Series continues with Game 2 between the 1975 Cincinnati Reds and the 1939 New York Yankees. Fred Norman gets the start for Cincinnati, who is looking to even up the series after dropping Game 1. Norman was 14-10 in the regular season, posting a 4.55 ERA. He's been much improved in the postseason, going 2-1 with a 1.79 ERA. For New York, we'll see Red Ruffing on the mound. Ruffing was 19-7 during the season, with a 3.20 ERA. He's been even better in the playoffs, posting a 6-1 record to go along with a 2.50 ERA.
The Reds score first, putting runs on the board in the top of the 2nd inning. George Foster leads the inning off with a solo home run over the wall in right center field. Tony Perez follows that with a walk. Ken Griffey comes up and goes down swinging for out number one. Dan Driessen flies out to center for the second out. But Cesar Geronimo is able to ground the ball in the gap between first and second, which moves Perez to third. Dave Concepcion hits a line drive past short, scoring Perez. Pete Rose then comes up to the plate and gets a base hit grounded past second to score another run. Joe Morgan grounds out to a 4-6 fielder's choice to end the inning, but the Reds lead it 3-0. Johnny Bench would pad the lead in the top of the 5th, hitting a homer over the left field wall with two outs to make it 4-0, Cincinnati. Perez would lead off the top of the 6th with a home run measuring 423 feet into right center, giving the Reds a 5-0 lead. But the Yankees would answer in the bottom of the 6th. With two outs, Joe Gordon walks, then advances to third on Tommy Henrich's base hit past third. Babe Dahlgren draws a walk to load the bases and Norman is chased from the mound. The Reds bring in Tom Carroll (0-0, 3.86, 4 G, 7 IP). Carroll hits Frankie Crosetti with a pitch and walks Charlie Keller, giving the Yankees two easy runs. Red Rolfe goes down swinging to end the inning, with the Reds leading 5-2. The score would remain as we head to the bottom of the 9th. Rawly Eastwick (3-1, 1.29, 5 Sv, 12 G, 14 IP) is on the mound for Cincinnati. Rolfe welcomes him to the game by doubling down the right field line. DiMaggio flies out to center, but it is deep enough to advance Rolfe to third. George Selkirk strikes out and New York is down to their last out. Bill Dickey grounds the ball into right field, scoring Rolfe. Gordon then steps up and doubles into left center. Henrich steps into the batters box, representing the winning run, with the tying run on second base. But Henrich doesn't make good contact with the ball, grounding out to first, 3-1 and ending the game. 1975 Cincinnati Reds 5 1939 New York Yankees 3 Series tied 1-1

World Series Game 3
We go to Cincinnati for Game 3. The 1939 New York Yankees are sending Marius Russo to the hill. Russo was 18-10 in the regular season with a 4.27 ERA. In the postseason, he is 3-2 with a 3.43 ERA. The 1975 Cincinnati Reds will start Don Gullett. Gullett was 14-12 during the season, with a 3.09 ERA. But he has not fared well in the playoffs, posting a mark of 2-5, with an ERA of 6.06.
While things may look good for the Yankees, it's the Reds who start the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Johnny Bench leads things off by popping out to short for the first out. George Foster doubles to left center, putting himself in scoring position. Tony Perez hits a single through the right side of the infield. Foster rounds third and the ball comes home. Foster beats the throw and is SAFE at home!! It looks like a rally is starting for Cincinnati, but Ken Griffey snuffs that out by lining into a 6-3 double play. Reds lead 1-0. Joe Morgan would take matters into his own hands to score the second run for Cincinnati in the bottom of the 4th. Morgan draws a walk to lead off the inning, steals second and third, then scores on Johnny Bench's ground out to short. Reds lead 2-0. New York would come back to tie the game in the top of the 5th. Charlie Keller leads off the inning with a double. After Red Rolfe lines out to first, Joe DiMaggio steps up and smacks a home run over the wall in left center. Game tied 2-2. The Yankees would take the lead in the top of the 7th. Rolfe leads off the inning by striking out looking and DiMaggio flies out to center. But George Selkirk singles to right to extend the inning. Gullett is pulled and Will McEnaney (1-1, 2.77, 11 G, 13 IP) is brought in to pitch. He doesn't last long, as Bill Dickey doubles in Selkirk and Joe Gordon follows that up with a home run to left center. McEnaney, exit stage left. Pedro Borbon (0-0, 2.16, 1 Sv, 7 G, 8.1 IP) comes in and gets Babe Dahlgren to ground out to short to end the inning, but the Yankees now hold a 5-2 advantage. The Reds would rally in the bottom half of the 7th. Foster singles to start things off, but Perez strikes out and Griffey lines out to right. So, with two outs, Cesar Geronimo steps up and delivers a double to left. Foster scores to make it 5-3. Merv Rettenmund (.250/.250/.315) is brought in to pinch hit and he makes the most of it, hitting a single past second to score Geronimo. But the rally ends with Dave Concepcion's fly out to left. The Yankees still lead, 5-4. The score remains the same as we head to the bottom of the 9th. Johnny Murphy (1-0, 1.50, 6 Sv, 12 G, 12 IP) is on the mound to save it for the Yankees. Foster leads the inning off with a walk, but Perez strikes out, Griffey flies out to right and Geronimo goes down looking. 1939 New York Yankees 5 1975 Cincinnati Reds 4 '39 Yankees lead series 2-1

World Series Game 4
It's time for Game 4 of the World Series to determine the best World Series of All Time!!! The 1939 New York Yankees lead the series over the 1975 Cincinnati Reds two games to one. Starting Game 4 for the Yankees is Monte Pearson. Pearson was 11-8, with a 3.73 ERA, in the regular season. Although he's 2-0 in the postseason, his ERA has soared to 5.64. Speaking of soaring ERA's, the Reds are starting Gary Nolan. Nolan was 20-6 during the season, with a low 2.96 ERA. But he's had a rough go of it in the playoffs, posting a 2-0 record and an ERA of 6.69.
Cincinnati strikes first in this game. We go to the bottom of the 2nd inning. Tony Perez leads things off by flying out to left, followed by a Ken Griffey walk. Cesar Geronimo flies out to left for the second out, which brings up Nolan. Nolan is able to help his own cause by connecting with the ball the grounding through the hole at short. Dave Concepcion steps in and manages a slow grounder to second. Concepcion beats the throw to first for an infield hit, loading the bases!! Pete Rose comes up and singles into right field to score a run. Joe Morgan comes to the plate and draws a walk, leading to another run scored. A passed ball scores Concepcion before Bench makes the third out, 6-3. Reds lead 3-0. New York would answer the following inning. Pearson flies out to center to start the top of the 3rd inning, but Charlie Keller is walked. Red Rolfe comes up to bat and delivers a 419 foot home run over the center field wall. The Yankees can't score again, but have trimmed the lead to 3-2. The Yankees take the lead in the top of the 5th. With two out and Rolfe on first, George Selkirk doubles down the right field line, scoring Rolfe and tying the game 3-3. Bill Dickey follows Selkirk and drives him home with a single to center. Yankees lead 4-3. But the Reds would return the favor in the bottom half of the frame. Pete Rose doubles to lead off the bottom of the 5th and two outs later, George Foster comes up to bat. Foster singles past the second baseman and Rose comes home to tie the game, 4-4. Cincinnati would regain the lead in the bottom of the 7th behind Johnny Bench's solo shot to left, giving the Reds the 5-4 advantage. To the 9th inning we go. Pedro Borbon (0-0, 2.08, 1 Sv, 8 G, 8.2 IP) is in to save the game for the Reds. Borbon makes quick work of Tommy Henrich, who grounds out to second and Charlie Keller, who flies out to center. Rolfe steps into the batters box and doubles to center, breathing new life into the Yankees. A wild pitch moves Rolfe to third and another wild pitch allows him to score, tying the game 5-5!! Joe DiMaggio draws a walk from an obviously shaken Borbon. George Selkirk then doubles down the third base line, scoring DiMaggio and giving the Yankees the lead, 6-5!!! Borbon is pulled and Tom Hall (0-0, 1.50, 1 Sv, 4 G, 6 IP) is brought into the game. Although Hall walks Bill Dickey, he's able to get Joe Gordon to go down swinging for the third out. Johnny Murphy (1-0, 1.38, 7 Sv, 13 G, 13 IP) is sent to the mound to finish off the Reds in the bottom of the 9th. Joe Morgan steps up and walks to first. Bench pops up to first for out number one. George Foster then comes to the plate. After working a 2-2 count, Foster drives the ball deep into left and over the left field wall for the walk off home run!!! The Reds go crazy and mob Foster at home plate. 1975 Cincinnati Reds 7 1939 New York Yankees 6 Series tied 2-2

World Series Game 5
We're in Cincinnati for Game 5 of the World Series. The 1939 New York Yankees are looking to rebound from a devastating walk off loss in Game 4. With the series tied, New York sends Lefty Gomez (3-4, 2.09) to the mound. Pitching for the 1975 Cincinnati Reds will be Pat Darcy (4-2, 2.20).
The Reds' bats were still red hot from the end of Game 4, as they come out swinging in the bottom of the 1st inning. After two quick outs, Joe Morgan singles, as does Johnny Bench. Morgan is able to beat the throw to third, putting men on the corners. George Foster draws a walk to load the bases. Tony Perez comes to the plate and after watching a ball go by, he decides the second pitch is more to his liking and he hits a GRAND SLAM home run into left center. Ken Griffey follows that up with a triple down the first base line and he scores on Cesar Geronimo's base hit. Darcy strikes out to end the inning, as Cincinnati bats around and leads it 5-0. But the Yankees are a great team also, and they answer in the top of the 2nd inning. New York scores their first run by drawing four straight walks. Frankie Crosetti records the first out as he's called out on strikes. But Gomez is able to get a base hit past second to score another run. With the bases still loaded, Charlie Keller smashed the ball through the hole on the right side and into right field, scoring two runners and cutting the lead to 5-4. Red Rolfe flies out to left for out number two. Joe DiMaggio steps up to the plate, looking to give the Yankees the lead, but he never gets the chance, as Keller is caught napping at first and is picked off!!! New York would get another chance, though, and tie the game in the top of the 4th behind Keller's RBI single. Game tied 5-5. The score would remain tied as we head to the 9th. The Yankees bring in Spud Chandler (1-1, 3.71, 1 Sv, 11 G, 17 IP) to pitch the bottom of the 9th. Tony Perez gets a base hit and Ken Griffey walks to put two men on with no outs. Geronimo flies out to center and it's deep enough to allow Perez to make it to third base. Pinch hitter Merv Rettenmund comes up to bat and grounds the ball to second. Now, this is where some pitch hitting can come back to bite you. You see, the Yankees had made some moves earlier in the game and in the 9th inning, Joe Gordon had been replaced at second base by Bill Knickerbocker. Knowing Knickerbocker didn't have an arm like Gordon, Perez darts for home. Knickerbocker sees it and throws it to Bill Dickey at the plate. Perez slides......Dickey tags......and he's......SAFE!!! The Reds score and take the series lead!!! 1975 Cincinnati Reds 6 1939 New York Yankees 5 '75 Reds lead series 3-2.

World Series Game 6
It's back to New York we go, as the 1975 Cincinnati Reds, holding a 3-2 series lead, will face off against the 1939 New York Yankees. Starting for the Reds will be Fred Norman (3-1, 1.96). On the mound for the Yankees is Red Ruffing (6-2, 2.95).
The Yankees start things off in the bottom of the 1st. Charlies Keller leads off with a walk. Things are looking good for New York until Red Rolfe goes down swinging and, bang-bang, Keller is caught stealing second. So, with two outs, Joe DiMaggio singles to right and comes home on George Selkirk's triple into the right field corner. Bill Dickey flies out to center to end the inning, but the Yankees hold a 1-0 lead. Tommy Henrich would homer in the bottom of the 2nd inning, 467 feet into left center, to give the Yankees the 2-0 advantage. The bats would stay cool for both teams until the 6th inning. In the top of the inning, Dan Driessen leads it off with a home run to right to get the Reds on the board. George Foster would later deliver a bases loaded single to score two runs, giving Cincinnati the lead, 3-2. New York would respond in the bottom half of the inning, as Charlie Keller leads the inning off with a walk and scores on Red Rolfes double to center field. Things look good for the Yankees as DiMaggio gets intentionally walked, but Selkirk grounds into the 6-4-3 double play and Bill Dickey strikes out to kill the rally. Game tied 3-3. Johnny Murphy (1-2, 2.70, 7 Sv, 1 BSv, 14 G, 13.1 IP) is in to pitch the 9th inning. Murphy gets Tony Perez to fly out to center, but gives up a base hit to Ken Griffey. Bill Dickey throws wild on Griffey's stolen base attempt of second, sending Griffey to third base. Driessen is given a free pass, putting men on the corners with one out. Cesar Geronimo steps up and strikes out looking for the second out. Dave Concepcion then comes up to the plate and delivers a double to right center to give Cincinnati a one run lead. Pete Rose draws a walk to load the bases. Murphy then uncorks a wild pitch that allows Driessen to score from third. After Joe Morgan walks to load 'em up again, Johnny Bench goes down swinging to end the inning. Reds lead 5-3. Rawly Eastwick (4-1, 1.59, 6 Sv, 15 G, 17 IP) is brought into the game for the Reds. Joe Gordon jumps all over Eastwick and doubles into left center. Tommy Henrich comes up and also doubles to score Gordon. Down a run, the Yankees send in pinch hitter Buddy Rosar. Rosar grounds out to second, but advances Henrich to third. With the tying run 90 feet away and one out, Frankie Crosetti comes up and hits the ball sharply to short. Concepcion looks Henrich back to third before rifling the ball to first for out number two. Charlie Keller steps into the batter's box and draws a walk, bringing up Red Rolfe. But Rolfe can't get a hold of Eastwick's pitches and goes down swinging to end the game and the series. George Foster is named the World Series MVP, as he hit .348 with 2 HR and 6 RBI. 1975 Cincinnati Reds 5 1939 New York Yankees 4 '75 Reds win series 4-2
