I've been using OOTP for around 8 years, may have missed a year once.
My impressions: I really love 3D. Hoping it becomes better in the future but it's already fun to watch. I've turned off the morale system. I couldn't understand it well enough to accept the damage it could do and when I'd try to address it I couldn't tell if it was making any difference. Finances seem to be working ok with defaults. This is actually pretty huge as it's caused a lot of my long surviving sims in prior versions to fall apart. I'm more willing to accept the limitations of the default setup since teams seem to be able to evolve over time as their performance improves/deteriorates. Actually one of the more subtle but meaningful improvements. Of course, YMMV and I've not studied the numbers extensively to back up my statements. It could just be luck on my part. Official licensing matters. Real historic minors matters. The coaching system needs more work. I've resorted to retiring HOF players and making them into coaches and hand selecting which type they will be. It's a band-aid to a lack of quality coaches available without the manual intervention. I would like better reminders of my coaching staff being in the last year of their contract. I would like the game to be able to suggest some coaches I should look at based on my managerial style, their ability to handle veterans (and therefore great candidates for the major league team), ability to handle prospects and teach skills (particularly for minor league coaches). The reputation rating is to vague and often completely misleading based on looking at the ratings in the editor. Why is the default facegen facial hair settings so ridiculous? No matter, really, I've fine tuned it to my liking but I always SMH when I look at the defaults. So many players with really odd looking beards. I appreciate that "historic" looks are available but they aren't tied to the eras they should be used in. With a little tweaking this could be so much better. Yes, this is a total nit-pick. Just offering my thoughts - no offense or trolling intended. I find myself eagerly signing Bonds, ARod, Clemens, Palmeiro, and other HGH guys because I know they will dominate but without the stigma of getting busted for PEDs. On the one hand I love this because the entire PED thing is an unnecessary negative when playing a sports sim that should be about fun. On the other hand, these guys careers should be tainted. Pretending their cheating didn't happen doesn't sit well, either. I have thought maybe we add a personality trait regarding ethics that could show up in their description (e.g. Bonds is known to do whatever it takes to be the best. Clemens seems to be getting stronger later in his career.) as a means of tipping us off regarding a players likelihood of PED use. What would make me really mad is having a fictional player who suddenly got busted but I had no indication he was going to cheat. That's what I'd want the ethics trait to reveal so I could avoid those guys. |

Two of my greatest enjoyments as a GM...
1. Outliving the owner 2. Writing his obituary in the 'League Newspaper' |
