Chris Conn is a Tigers fan. We definitely had their number anyway.

I have no expectations for the playoffs. We probably won't matchup with anyone very well (except the Tigers if they make it). Teams like Boston, Texas, and Toronto have enough offense to just outscore us. We have to win ugly games. Our only real advantage is that I like our bullpen better than most teams. If we can win the first 5 to 6 innings, I think we can close the door.

Good pitching usually beats good hitting....1995 World Series comes to mind. I think the Indians have the best pitching staff among the AL playoff teams. That being said, their bats sometimes tend to go silent and that usually means a 2-0 loss. I am optimistic about their chances against any of the teams they will face in the playoffs, but as long as the AL representative is not the Yankees.....I am ok with how this season went if the Indians don't make it to the World Series.

I agree, except that I don't think that we have good pitching anymore - at least in the first 6 innings or so.

Rangers have some kind of a rotation. We could make it out of the AL bracket.

The bullpen is the obvious strength, and all you need from your starters (not named Kluber) is to keep you in the game through 4 or 5 and then turn the ball over to Otero, Miller, Shaw and Allen. None of the other teams have a bullpen as deep and besides Boston with Price and Porcello, there are no other teams with two good starters that scare me.

Thanks to Toronto winning, the Indians have home field advantage for the ALDS!

Ready or not, postseason here we come!

Pitching matchups for ALDS

Game 1: Bauer v. Porcello
Game 2: Kluber v. Price
Game 3: Tomlin v. Buchholz

Surprisingly the pitching matchups pretty even. I guess you'd have to give Porcello an edge in Game 1, but he is certainly beatable. I feel a little better that Boston doesn't have a third starter that's any better than ours; Game 3 could be a wild one.

Schucks, the Friday game is at 4:30p. My desk chair might be empty by 4p or so.

I agree! I think Porcello has had a good year but he has never scared me much. In fact the Indians hit him pretty well over his career....Santana (.293, 3 HR), Kipnis (.323 1 HR), Chisenhall (.273) and Napoli (.333)....each guy has at least 15 ABs against him.

Price is a great pitcher, but his numbers in the postseason are not good (2-7 5.12 ERA in 14 games 8 starts). I hope at worst a split at home and then split in Boston and a game 5 with Kluber on the hill sounds good to me. I just hope Tomlin can repeat his outing against Boston back in August (7 2/3, 3 runs on 7 hits). Give me that and I think they have a good shot against Buchholz in Game 3.

Really excited for playoff baseball again in Cleveland!

1 down, 10 to go.

If nothing else, we'll have the 3rd inning of Game 1 of the ALDS, Jason Kipnis getting a ride through the dugout. And who knew Roberto Perez would be the hero. I liked that they had Papa Tito Francona throw out the first pitch.

Last night was also a reminder that Bryan Shaw still pitches leverage innings for us. He makes me super nervous still. Fortunately he had a 2 run lead.

Man, got to the 8th with a two-run lead and suddenly nobody wanted to throw strikes! I was sweating it a bit there.

Meh 1995 was good enough for Cleveland.

Yeah, I was travelling yesterday and didn't see much, only the ninth inning. Saw highlights of the eighth this morning. Shaw and Allen did just enough.

Glad to be moving on to the ALCS. Go Tribe!

Yeah, still a little shocked they scored 4 runs in two days and clearly looked like the better team. Not over yet, still need to win a game in Toronto. Hopefully Bauer's finger is OK. I don't have much faith that Clevenger can win a game.

I am more shocked that they have held Toronto to 3 runs in the entire series. Great win last night, the bullpen really came through again. I was a little worried when Otero gave up that homer to Saunders, but great performances from Manship and McAllister to get to Allen, Shaw and Miller.

It looks like Kluber is going today and if they lose then it will be Merritt in game 5.
