Games 60-62: Milwaukee Brewers vs. Boston Americans
The Milwaukee Brewers traveled to the Bay State to take on the Boston Americans for a 3-game matchup. While the Brewers kept things close, Boston was able to take 2 of 3 games to move to a 4-1 record for the month of June.
Game 60: It took a late-inning comeback, but Boston (36-24) was able to pull out the 5-2 victory of the Brewers (23-37). The win largely rests with the solid pitching performance of Boston pitcher Jesse Tannehill (10-5) who allowed 2 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 7 to finish a Game Score of 70. Milwaukee pitcher Jack Sutthoff (4-10) took the loss after giving up 5 earned runs on 10 hits and 2 walks, Game Score of 42. Fred Clarke (2 for 4, Double, 1 Run), Bill Lange (2 for 4, Triple, 1 Run, 2 RBIs, Kid Elberfeld (2 for 4, 1 Run, 1 RBI), and Jesse Tannehill (2 for 3, 1 Run, 1 RBI) led the Americans hitting attack. Jimmy Barrett (2 for 4) and Jack Slattery (2 for 4, 1 Run) paced the Brewers. This was a rare game in which the Americans did not commit an error. Player of the Game: Jesse Tannehill (Season: #11 / Career: #11) Game 61: Honestly, I am not sure how he does it but Boston pitcher Fred Klobedanz (10-5) was in the zone as he tossed a 3-hit shutout, striking out 5 (Game Score of 86) to lead the Americans (37-24) to a 5 to 0 victory over the Brewers (23-38). Milwaukee pitcher Tom Hughes (6-10) lasted 7 innings, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) while scattering 7 hits, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts to finish with a Game Score of 65. Patsy Flaherty was roughed up in his 1 inning of relief (3 runs) on 3 hits. Boston hitters came ready to play, belting 5 extra-base hits out of the 10 recorded hits, led by Bill Lange (2 for 5, Double, 1 Run, 1 RBI) and Kid Elberfeld (1 for 4, Triple, 2 RBIs). While Klobedanz had the Brewers largely in check, he had no answer for Jimmy Barrett who went 3 for 4 on the day. Player of the Game: Fred Klobedanz (Season: #5 / Career: #5) Game 62: A late-inning rally by the Brewers (24-38) locked up the 3 to 2 win over the Americans (37-25). Milwaukee pitcher Bill Dinneen (7-7) allowed 2 runs (1 earned) while giving up 6 hits and 3 walks for a Game Score of 70. Cy Young (7-7) took the loss, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits (5 of which were for extra-bases) and 2 walks with Game Score of 67. Brewers catcher Fritz Buelow (2 for 4, Triple, SB) and leftfielder Kip Selbach (1 for 3, Triple, 1 Run, 1 RBI, 1 Walk) provided the needed batting punch. Player of the Game: Bill Dinneen

Games 63-65: Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Americans
The final series prior to the All-Star break, the Boston Americans welcomed the Baltimore Orioles for a 3-game match-up. It has been a fun 1st-half of the season and very happy with how the team has played. While I am always mindful of potential roster changes, I don't anticipate any major shakeups.
Game 63: A very nice outing for Noodles Hahn as he led the Americans (38-25) to a 5 to 0 victory over the Orioles (27-36). Hahn (11-6) scattered 7 hits, allowed 2 walks, and struck out 9 on his way to the shutout win (Game Score of 80). Ed Doheny (4-6) was on the losing side of things, giving up 5 runs (3 earned) on 11 hits and 2 walks to finish with a Game Score of 48. It is interesting that despite a combined 18 hits on the day, there were no extra-base hits. The Boston hitting attack was led by John Farrell (3 for 4, 2 RBI), Fred Clarke (2 for 4, 1 Run, 1 RBI), and Bill Lange (2 for 4, 2 Runs) Player of the Game: Noodles Hahn (Season: #11 / Career: #11) Game 64: Bouncing back from the previous day's shutout, the Orioles (28-36) jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back, as they topped the Americans (38-26) by a score of 6 to 3. Ted Lewis (7-7) stymied the home team, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on just 4 hits and 2 walks to finish with a Game Score of 73. Jesse Tannehill (10-6) was roughed up today, allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 11 hits and 2 walks; Game Score of 51. Boston 3rd-baseman Jesse Hoffmeister was the lone bright spot, going 1 for 3 with 2 Runs and 1 Walk. The Orioles were led by Jesse Burkett (2 for 4, Triple, 3 Runs, 1 Walk) and Harry Davis (2 for 4, Double, 1 Run, 2 RBI's). Player of the Game: Ted Lewis Game 65: A great outing by Cy Young (8-7), as he led Boston (39-26) to a 1 to 0 victory of the Orioles (28-37). Young scattered 8 hits and issued 1 walk on his way to a Game Score of 72. Baltimore pitcher Christy Mathewson (5-12) took the hard luck loss, allowing 1 earned un on 4 hits and 2 walks to finish with a Game Score of 70. There was nothing of significance to not from the offense side of things, as this was a pitcher's duel. Player of the Game: Cy Young (Season: #7 / Career: #7)

Chicago and New York Trade
The first AI trade happened, with the Chicago Orphans sending pitcher George Merritt to the New York Giants for shortstop Shorty Fuller. While there is clearly nothing special about the players involved in the trade, it is nice to see the AI doing its job.

1901 MLB All-Star Game
The American League jumped out to an early 8 to 0 lead after 3 innings and then had to hang on as the National League stormed back to make it a competitive game. In the end though, the AL prevailed over the NL 9 to 5 to pick up the All-Star Game win.
Detroit Tigers righfielder Charlie Hickman was named MVP after going 2 for 4 with a Homerun, Double, 2 Runs, and 3 RBIs. The Boston Americans were well represented, with Fred Clarke hitting 2 for 3, Double, 2 Runs; John Farrell going 1 for 2 with a Double, 1 Run, and 1 RBI; Noodles Hahn earning the win, and Jesse Tannehill pitching a scoreless inning and going 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs at the plate. New York Giants first baseman Sam Crawford had a nice day (2 for 4, Triple, 1 Run, 4 RBIs) in the losing effort.

Trade: Boston Sends Morrison to Philadelphia
A minor trade saw the Boston Americans sending 31 year old third baseman Tom Morrison to Philadelphia in exchange for relief pitchers John Gilroy and Willie Garoni. Nothing revolutionary with the move and to be honest, this was simply due to me having a soft-spot for Garoni from OOTP 18. Gilroy will end up on the reserve roster and Garoni will slot in as a middle reliever.

Owner: Mid-Season Review of Goals
Received feedback from Boston Americans owner Kevin Kunz on how I've handled the team through the first-half of 1901. Overall, seems happy with how things are going and hopefully gives me some room to shape this team into a contender.

Games 66-68: Boston Americans vs. Detroit Tigers
Ouch, not the way Boston wanted to start the 2nd-half of the 1901 season, as the Detroit Tigers steamrolled the Americans and showed why they have stayed in the top spot in the American League standings. Getting swept drops Boston back to 3rd place; 9 games out of the lead.
Game 66: An error-filled game by the Americans (39-27) coupled to a dominant pitching performance by Detroit (46-20) pitcher Togie Pittinger resulted in the Tigers 3 to 0 victory over Boston. Pittinger (12-5) limited the opposition to just 4 hits and 1 walk, striking out 5 and finishing with a Game Score of 83. Noodles Hahn (11-7) allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits and 1 walk; Game Score of 59. Detroit third baseman Tom O'Brien added to his AL leading batting average (.373) by going 2 for 3 with 2 Runs. Player of the Game: Togie Pittinger Game 67: Boston (39-28) had this game in hand only to see it slip away with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning with no one on base as the Tigers (47-20) stormed back to take the game 4 to 3. Detroit pitcher John Malarkey (14-3) allowed 3 earned runs on 10 hits and 1 walk, striking out 6, and finish with a Game Score of 60. Cy Young (8-8) gave up 4 earned runs on 12 hits and 3 walks; Game Score of 48. The Tigers had 5 hitters who had a multi-hit game, led by Hobe Ferris (2 for 4, 1 Run), Freddy Parent (2 for 3, Homerun, 1 Run, 1 RBI), and Hugh Duffy (2 for 4, 1 Run, 1 RBI, 1 Walk). Bill Lange went 2 for 3, 2 RBI, 1 Walk in the losing cause. Player of the Game: John Malarkey Game 68: Well, if Boston was going to get swept they sure know how to do it well. Here, the Americans (39-29) jumped out to an early lead only to see the Tigers (48-20) get the walk-off 3 to 2 victory. Detroit pitcher Nixey Callahan (10-6) permitted 2 earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk; Game Score of 68. Fred Klobedanz (10-6) was saddled with the loss, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 10 hits and 2 walks; Game Score of 56. Roger Bresnahan (3 for 4, 1 Run, 2 RBIs, 1 Walk), Candy LaChance (2 for 4, 1 Run), and Nixey Callahan (2 for 4, 1 Run) paced the Detroit offense. Fred Clarke (3 for 4, 1 Run, 1 RBI) was the Boston bright spot on offense. Player of the Game: Nixey Callahan

Week 10 Team Power Rankings
The Week 10 Power Rankings are out and the top spot remains firmly held by the Detroit Tigers. In fact, the top 5 positions remained unchanged, while the two Philadelphia teams sit at the bottom of the rankings.

Games 69-71: Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Americans
After getting steamrolled by the Tigers in the last series, it was important for Boston to bounce back with a solid series against Chicago. While it be difficult to close the gap for the American League lead, getting 2 of 3 in this series is a step in the right direction.
Game 69: A nice complete team effort, as Boston (40-29) combined solid pitching, timely hitting, and error-free defense to top the White Sox (29-40) by a 3 to 1 score. Noodles Hahn (12-7) went the distance, allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits, while striking out 8 to finish with a Game Score of 81. Bill Carrick (5-13) gave up 3 earned runs while allowing 11 hits and 3 walks for a Game Score of 50. Fred Clarke (3 for 5, 1 RBI) and Kid Elberfeld (3 for 4, 2 Doubles, 1 Run, 1 RBI) paced Boston's offense. Player of the Game: Noodles Hahn (Season: #12 / Career: #12) Game 70: This one got away from Boston very fast, as the White Sox (30-40) jumped out to a 4 to 0 1st inning lead and never looked back, cruising to an 8 to 2 victory over the Americans (40-30). Chicago pitcher Bill Phillips (9-8) allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 10 hits to pick up the win (Game Score of 65), while Jesse Tannehill (10-7) gave up 7 runs (5 earned) in a rough outing of 8 innings to finish with a Game Score of 45. Ed Norton wrapped up the 9th inning in relief by giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits. Chicago hitters did well at the plate with Pop Foster (3 for 4, Double, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs), John Dobbs (2 for 5, Double, 1 Run, 2 RBIs), and John Anderson (2 for 5, 2 Runs) paced the way. Player of the Game: Bill Phillips Game 71: It took a 5-run 8th inning to secure the win for the Americans (41-30), as they topped the White Sox (30-41) by a score of 8 to 3. Boston veteran pitcher Cy Young (9-8) picked up the win, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits and 2 walks for a Game Score of 69. Chicago pitcher Willie Sudhoff (5-10) tossed 7.2 innings, allowing 8 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits and 2 walks (Game Score of 39), while Sadie McMahon was brought in for the final 1/3 inning (1 hit, 1 walk, 1 strikeout). The Americans were led at the plate by Fred Clarke (3 for 5, Double, 3 RBIs) and Ossee Schreckengost (2 for 4, 1 Run). Player of the Game: Cy Young (Season: #8 / Career: #8)
