The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that right-handed starting pitcher William Cuevas will miss the remainder of the season with a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow.
The 34-year-old suffered the injury in the team's 6-4 loss to Philadelphia on April 27.
Cuevas was making his fourth start of the season. He will finish the year with a 0-2 record with a 6.57 ERA.
This was Cuevas' second season in St. Louis. He had gone 10-13 with a 3.52 ERA in 2024.
Cuevas is the second Cardinals pitcher to see his 2025 season before the opening month had ended.
Left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer also suffered a torn flexor muscle in his pitching arm He injury occurred on April 19.
Right-hander Tink Hence is expected to be called up from AAA Memphis to take Cuevas' spot in the rotation.
The 22-year-old, who will be making his major league debut, has made five starts for the Redbirds going 2-1 with a 4.25 ERA.
