I currently call the flavor-du-jour Red Bull minnow team "Red Bull Sugar Free". Reasons are similar, though convenience is one of them. "Minardi" will do, too.

I miss the days (okay, I absolutely wasn't alive in its hey days) where drivers would just go "**** this", and open their own team and build their own car and go racing with that.

Instead of brainless luxury fashion brands and automobile manufacturers that diddle around with the series but can't even build their own ******* engine (Aston, Cadillac, Audi, Alpine...), can we go back to that? First hire will be somebody able to hit F5 on the weather map.

Stewart had more success than Surtees, Fittipaldi, and Hill did. Emerson was a 2 time champion and 29 years old when he joined his brother's team and that was pretty much the end of his F1 career, while the team he left won the WDC with a guy who really wasn't WDC material. But anyway, Stewart was built from scratch and existed for 3 years and the last year they won a GP and finished 4th in the WCC.

The 1999 GP at the Nürburgring was perhaps one of the most insane races ever.

Nobody has ever said "oh Ligier went really well in the 90s" just because Olivier Panis survived to win the 1996 Monaco GP

Ligier also didn't finish 4th in the WCC in the 90s.

Fittipaldi, Surtees, and Embassy Hill were nowhere near even being able to take advantage of others' misfortune to win a race. They were horrendous.

The team that was Stewart has won 8 WDC's btw.

By that reasoning the Matra-BRM that Ken Tyrrell entered for Hubert Hahne and Jacky Ickx for the 1966 German GP laid the groundwork for the Benz team that reigned supreme in F1 from 2014 to 2020.

Hear me out:

Monaco, as ran today and at least the last few years, is as bad as anything F1 has put out as a product (current regulations exluded for sake of argument).

Watching this race in particular every year is anti-racing

You can't say 2026 races don't have drama.

Sir Lewis wins his first for Ferrari (and first in almost two years), there are no friends at Benz, and Lando snuck a podium while *burying* Ossie.

And that doesn't yet mention the insane final laps with Kimi first passing Russell for second place, and then winning the "Benz go boom" lottery for the weekend, and Charles losing powersteering and retiring in the pits for more agony.

Charles is just cursed...

Kimi now 41 points up on Sir Lewis for the title. Lando merely 83 behind

You mean Ferrari actually had a strategy that worked?! Happy for Lewis to get that first one.

The "Ferrari strategy that worked" consisted of Sir Lewis being on a 3-stop while the Benz and Lando were done with their 2-stop strategies, and just in time Alonso's car expired on track and brought out a VSC that allowed Ferrari to service the car and get it out *ahead* of the three chasers.

I mean, AT LEAST THEY BROUGHT HIM IN.
