The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired minor-league catcher R.J. Long from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for starting pitcher Gary Gill Hill.
Long, 25, has been playing at AAA Durham this season where in 10 games he has hit .256 with one home run and nine RBIs.
A second-round pick in the 2031 draft, Long is still waiting to make his major league debut.
In 505 games/501 starts in the minors, he is a .271 hitting with 100 home runs and 319 RBIs.
Hill, 30, is returning to where the Cardinals acquired him in a trade on June 15, 2033.
He's had a good start to this season going 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA in five starts.
In 52 career starts for St. Louis, he went 11-16 with a 4.29 ERA.

In a little over a month with the St. Louis Cardinals, outfielder Eddy Cortes has landed on the injured list two times.
This time the 25-year-old outfielder will be sidelined for up to two weeks with a sprained ankle suffered in an 11-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Cortes missed three weeks earlier in the season with forearm tendinitis.
He has played in just 13 of their 36 games and not done much in them hitting just .188 with one home run and one RBI.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis is 25-year-old outfielder Bryan Mills.
It is the second callup of the season for Mills, who got into five games earlier this season and hit .235 with no homers or RBIs.
At AAA Memphis, Mills has hit .310 with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 29 games/23 starts.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed right-handed pitcher Eric Segura in the 15-day injured list after he left their 2-1 loss to the San Diego Padres with what was determined to be shoulder inflammation.
The 30-year-old Segura was enjoying a good start to his season going 3-2 with a 2.15 ERA through his first eight starts.
He is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks.
The team's top pitching prospect, Manuel Perez, has been called up from AAA Memphis to fill Segura's place in the rotation.
He already has made one start for the Cardinals this season allowing two runs over 6.2 innings in a 3-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 2.
Perez is 1-3 in seven starts at AAA Memphis this season with a 5.59 ERA.
