Bob Boyer

Another brother of Ken, Cloyd, and Clete Boyer? Nope, not related.

Outfielder Bob Boyer appeared in the St. Louis Cardinals' spring camp as a non-roster invitee in 1959. It was quite a jump from the Class D level, but in 1958 he had hit 32 homers and 121 RBI with a .292 batting average for the Albany (GA) Cardinals.

The photo is from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch of April 15, 1959. It showed him sitting next to Ken Boyer, whom he had just gotten the pleasure of meeting.

James S. "Stan" Walton

Responding to a request on the Coaches thread, here is an obituary photo of James S. Walton, an outfielder with the 1969 Billings Mustangs. I've added a second photo which shows him in a Spartanburg (SC) High School uniform. It's from the Greenville (SC) News of April 27, 1969.

Wayne Carlander

Not to be ghoulish, but I'll sometimes check the obituaries of former minor leaguers to see if there's a decent photo of them as a pro accompanying the piece. For many, it might be the only time and place for such a photo to surface. Most of the time no luck, but occasionally...

Wayne Carlander passed away on June 7. A graduate of San Gabriel High School in California, Wayne was signed by the Dodgers in 1960. A pitcher, his numbers suggest he was better suited as a reliever than as a starter. He spent just one year in the Dodgers organization, 3 in the Cubs farm system, and the last two with the Reds minor league affiliates. His career record was 31-51. Wayne's obituary states that, as much as he loved sports, law enforcement was his "calling". He joined the Orange County Sheriff's Department in 1966 (the year after his final season in the minors) and retired as a Sargeant in 1996. He had just celebrated his 75th birthday a few days before his passing.

This image (which was posted to his obituary alongside more recent photos) would appear to be from his final pro season, 1965, when he was with the Knoxville Smokies, for whom he went 2-2 with a career best 2.77 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 65 innings pitched.

Wayne Carlander

I'm not trying to be competitive here, but I was actually reviewing the same obituary list and checking my own photo files, when I discovered that a Carlander photo had already been posted to this thread. It happened that a photo of him in a Chicago Cubs' uniform was displayed on eBay back in 2011.

Wayne Carlander was on the Cubs' spring roster in 1961, 1962, 1963, and 1964.

Dave Poole

Another recent death was that of catcher Dave Poole, who was on the Cincinnati Reds' spring roster in 1949 and 1950. Not sure where I picked up this photo, but think it was a newspaper wire photo at one point.

Dave Poole died on July 3, 2016.

Bill Fulginite

Per the above request, here are a couple of photos of Bill Fulginite.

The photo on the left is definitely the Bill Fulginite you are seeking. It's from the Boston Record American of July 4, 1968. The accompanying article indicates that Fulginite would be leaving that day for Bradenton, FL to report to an Oakland A's farm team. The article stated that Fulginite lived in Cambridge, MA, and had attended Boston Latin and Suffolk University.

The photo on the right shows a Bill Fulginite on his retirement from decades of coaching the Wayland High School team in Massachusetts. The background indicates that this Fulginite starting high school baseball coaching in 1975 in Framingham, MA. Given that timing, the Massachusetts location, and the unusual name of Bill Fulginite, I'm reasonably sure it's the same guy.

Gene Moser

Here's a third response to the above request.

The photo on the left is from the Oneonta (NY) Star of July 9, 1971. It shows Moser in an Oneonta Yankees uniform.

The photo on the right is from the Palm Beach (FL) Post of June 5, 1971. It shows Moser in a Fort Lauderdale Yankees uniform.

John Vance

Here's a fourth response to the above request.

Before Vance went into professional baseball, he was better known as Johnny Vance, a sensational quarterback at Western Kentucky University. This photo shows him in that role as he was named to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Star team. The photo is from the Louisville Courier-Journal of November 22, 1969.
