Die Harris, Frank Rabe Help Orange Crush Tourists, 10-3

Die Harris impressed in the 10-3 Orange win over Cherry. Harris, who is rated as the 13th best prospect in the NWL by BNN, was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Frank Rabe earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. Rabe also homered twice to tie for the team lead.

The Tourists got a big at-bat from shortstop Josh Goldsmith. For the game, Goldsmith was 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Orange a 4-2 lead.

"Feels good to get the job done," Goldsmith said after the game.

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

23 April 2299 - Mastodon Rips Nordhagen Beach for 5 Hits

It was a good day for the Bloodbugs at Beantown Brewery Stadium as they clipped the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 5-3. It was tremendous day for Tom Mastodon, who was on a hitting barrage at the plate, finishing 5-for-5.

"I don't know what to call that," the County Crossing left fielder told reporters after his big performance. "I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' I just try to keep it simple. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then I hit it. Today I picked up the spin pretty well."

Tom Mastodon doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 8th. Mastodon's fie hits and three doubles both tied team records.

This season Mastodon is batting .304 with 21 hits, 1 home run, 7 RBIs, no walks, .304 OBP and has scored 8 runs. He has played in 15 games.

Bloodbugs starter Boss Gentleman had to leave the game after just six pitches with an injury to his thumb. Little Jemmy Madison (1-0) won the game in long relief.

Julian Shed (1-2, 5.48) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with four walks and three hits. Jonathan Angelou had three hits for the Party Boys, including a double.

23 April 2299 - Quickwalker, Dwellers Too Much for Knuckle Punchers

Vault 81 and Roxbury got after it at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury.

Vault 81 right fielder Deer Quickwalker made his presence felt in the 9-2 Dwellers triumph over the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers. Quickwalker went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Curt Redcoats, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-2. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 12 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 1.

With Vault 81 leading 3-1 in the top of the second, Quickwalker hit a fastball from Tyler Shuster for a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Dwellers ahead, 6-1.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Quickwalker.

The Knuckle Punchers fall to 5-10 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2299 season. The Dwellers have now won two straight after breaking a 10-game losing streak.

23 April 2299 - Hancocks Cream Red Rockets, 14-3

Jumper Hayes was a major factor in the 14-3 Goodneighbor win over Jamaica Plain. The Hancocks second baseman went 4 for 5 with 4 singles and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was Quincy Eloquent. He tossed 126 pitches over 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits. Jamaica Plain falls to 10-5 after dropping two straight to the defending CBO champions.

The game turned with one out in the top of the fifth when Hayes, who led the SCA in wins above replacement with 7.4 last year, hit a run-scoring single. It propelled the Hancocks into the lead, 3-2.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Hayes.

23 April 2299 - Ghouls Drop Witch Hats, 6-4, in 10

The 6-4 The Slog win over Salem was due largely to Millioncap Go. The Ghouls center fielder went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The Slog pitcher Tyler Storts got the win, upping his record to 1-2. Dan Beantown got the loss. The win puts The Slog at 11-4.

Go had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a 0-1 fastball from Kevin Marsh, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Ghouls a 6-4 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Go.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Go.

23 April 2299 - Radstags Fall, 6-3, to Tiller, Silver Shroud

Good production from first baseman Jim Tiller helped the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud topple the Concord Radstags, 6-3. Tiller was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Silver Shroud. Matt Hope, the winner, improved to 4-0. He held the Radstags to 3 runs on 6 hits over 7.2 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 2. The Radstags, at 3-12, have stumbled out of the gate.

Ben Pawlak swatted a 2-run home run for Fort Hagen in the bottom of the third. The center fielder went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and batted in 2.

"When I'm in the lineup, I always feel like we're going to win the game," said Tiller.

23 April 2299 - Ross Powers Swatters to 8-3 Win

The Diamond City Swatters knocked off the Oberland T-51s, 8-3, at The Great Green Jewel. Tyler Ross was a big reason Diamond City won. The left fielder went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. At 13-2, the Swatters have played well so far, leading the RL now by five games.

With one out in the bottom of the first, Wally Warwick barreled up a fastball from Matt Udder. The result was a 3-run home run, putting the Swatters in front, 4-0.

Warwick told a Diamond City News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

The Nuka Tour

Your introduction to Nuka-World and Bradberton

by Evan Guy

24 April 2299 - Part 1: The Town of Bradberton

2060-2077: Nuka-World's Shanty Town

In 2060, the world was in turmoil. The European Commonwealth left the European Commonwealth-Middle East War and immediately began their own Civil War, jumping back into tribal factions such as France, Germany, and Italy. It seemed the world was falling apart, and it was only 17 years until that would be true.

However, in a small hamlet just northeast of the Nuka-Cola Bottling Plant, Nuka-Cola and Nuka-World owner, John-Caleb Bradberton had a plan to create a town dedicated to his employees so that they had a place to go, to live, to settle in relation to Nuka-World. He built up the land into a small town he called Bradberton.

Bradberton served as an informal shanty town in its early days due to Bradberton paying well below the standard rate of living to be above the poverty line of $350,000 per year. In time, residents of the town started to make money through their own off-season adventures, setting up miniature casinos, brothels, and bars. The offseason crew was unofficially known for its special deals as the Commonwealth Combo, or the CoCo. When wealthy travelers went to the bar or motel in Bradberton and asked about or for "Coco," the Bradberton residents knew they had a nice payday coming.

John-Caleb Bradberton did not seem to care what his crew did on their own time as long as they played their parts in Nuka-World. So what if Cowboy Billy of Dry Rock Gulch had special time with the First Lady? Or if Princess Cola entered the suite of the CEO of Poseidon Energy? As long as the fantasies in the park were maintained, the fantasies out of the park were fair game to keep the best of the park staff intact.

2077??-2288: Ghoulsville

A city of feral ghouls. The town was overrun with the beasts of former human with withered minds occupying the streets and every building of the town. None of the factioned gangs, caravaneers, or Gunners would dare enter the town for fear of the hordes.

One brave soul in search of a woman named Rachel did dare enter the town. And like he had done in the Commonwealth, the Sole Survivor rid the town of its deadly foes and made it a place of sanctuary for the former slaves as he went through his plans for Operation Open Season. That man, of course, is Nate Howard, for whom we can thank for our freedom and this newfound league of baseball in and around Bradberton and Nuka-World.

2288-2299: The Rise of the House of Bradberton

After the town became at first a secret location for freed slaves, it later became a fortified one. Nate completed his quest to kill, capture, or convert all of the remaining three factions of the Nuka-World raiders: the Disciples, Operators, and Pack. Then, Bradberton was a place where people could live without fear.

In turn, the former slaves turned the town into a thriving one within the South Central area of Massachusetts in the New England Commonwealth. Small shops were cleaned and repaired, and a thriving, bustling town for trade, relaxation, and settling came to be. Today, the town is again a location for Nuka-World employees who want to live there, though most have built settlements nearer to the parks where they work. Instead, Bradberton is a trade center and a stopover for guests looking to visit the seven Nuka-World locations.

24 April 2299 - Part 2: Victory Cave Crickets

Location: Bradberton

Stadium: John-Caleb Bradberton Honorary Field

Team President: Katelyn Alden

A caravaneer who is loyal to herself first, Katelyn helped establish a business in Bradberton following Operation Open Season. Because of her business regimen, she was selected by JCB to run the Victory team.

Nickname History: Cave Cricket

According to the terminal dedicated to Nuka-World specimens, "It is unknown what mutated these insects, but these enlarged cave crickets are descended from crickets of the order Rhaphidophoridae and the subfamily Ceuthophilinae (cave crickets native to the United States).

Cave crickets are about the size of a large dog and use their powerful back legs to hop great distances. Their mutations seem to have turned them carnivorous; instead of being content eating the grasses throughout Nuka-World, they attack anything on sight. Their dusty brown coloration makes it easy for them to lie in wait in bushes before ambushing prey.

Cave crickets kept a relatively similar appearance to their pre-War ancestors, as they still show characteristics peculiar to their families, such as long posterior legs and antennae, but like many other animal species, they still weren't left unaffected by the nuclear fallout that followed the Great War. Cave crickets are now much larger and have overgrown sharp mandibles, but the main feature that distinguishes them from their unmutated predecessors is the huge, single, frontal horn they can now use to stab or even impale their prey. Cave crickets are usually seen wandering in groups of three to four individuals in the dry plains that surround Nuka-World."

Players to Watch

SP Patch Bateman - 0-2, 1.80 ERA

Big guy. Armed with a plus fastball with a fringe curveball. Can be vulnerable to the long ball since he is a flyball pitcher. Animal lover.

C Deke Dax - .000/0/0

Another big guy. Slow on the basepaths, slow off them. Patient at the plate. Not good at making contact when he swings. May not have talent for CBO but could be a top catcher in the NWL.

1B Stan Floss - .111/0/0

The first-round pick by the Cave Crickets in the Inaugural Draft. Does not always give effort but does possess plus talent. Has a good eye for the strike zone but often swings too hard and misses hittable pitches. Can hit for power when he makes contact.

3B Spratt Turnpike - .000/0/0

Has good work effort but needs to catch up to his body to show the potential he possesses. Looks good on the practice field but cannot translate that to live games. Good glove helped him get drafted in the 3rd round of the 2297 CBO Rookie Draft. Does not have a good bat, swinging and missing thrice as much as he makes contact.

SP Joel Fields - 1-1, 0.56 ERA

Tall and thick. Keeps a low profile. Works hard for his team and cares only about playing ball. Has a four-pitch repertoire, but none are major league level. Makes too many of his pitches hittable instead of working up and down and on the corners.

Thanks for the kind words! I have been searching for good "clean" Nuka World park builds/mods. I hope to be able to present something good when I move into the different parks and how they are actual functioning theme parks in my dynasty, not so much in the game without builds and mods.

2299 Week 3 - The Week in Review

Analysis

Another week is in the books for the CBO, and though we do not know enough, we do know that Diamond City has been the hands down #1 team from the beginning of the season. They have shown that by starting #1 and remaining there with a 13-2 record, including a 4-1 week with a league series win over Oberland to start RL play. Pitching has been their claim to dominance so far, leading the SCA in runs allowed (42), Starters ERA (2.66), and Bullpen ERA (1.29). Tim Fusion (3-0, 1.09), Tyler Powers (3-0, 3.30), and Mark Stuhlsatz (3-0, 2.63) are all undefeated. Oh, yes, and there that is that synth guy, too, X10-44 Mannson (1-1, 3.86) who has not been as dominant to start as his teammates but is still very good.

The next three teams all enter the top five this week: Quincy, the Slog, and Abernathy. All three either lead their league or are tied for it. The Ghouls and Gunners both went 5-0 for the week, while the Adamantium went 4-1.

It is tough to tell which league may be the best this season by looking at things this early in the season, but the Brotherhood League is not its usual "any team, any day" self to start. Part of that is behind the strangely slow start for the defending NCA champions, the Easy Town Assaultrons, who are now tied with Concord for the CBO's worst record at 3-12. Three other teams are also playing poorly in the BL: Salem (5-10), County Crossing (5-10), and Finch Farm (7-8). For now, it's a two-team league with the Ghouls and Nordhagen Beach.

The same league that had the latest multi-team battle last season is the one with the most teams looking to be challengers. That league is the Minutemen League with Quincy (11-4), Jamaica Plain (10-5), Goodneighbor (9-6), and University Point (9-6). The Red Rockets and Warwick have switched places in the standings so far, with the Mirelurks struggling almost as much as Easy Town is.

Power Rankings

Weekly Team Power Rankings: Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Diamond City Swatters (164.0, o)
2) Quincy Gunners (148.0, +5)
3) The Slog Ghouls (141.0, +7)
4) Abernathy Adamantium (140.0, +2)
5) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (139.0, -1)
6) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (137.0, -3)
7) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (124.0, -5)
8) Goodneighbor Hancocks (112.0, +1)
9) Starlight Lady Killers (109.0, +2)
10) University Point Deathclaws (109.0, +4)
11) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (95.0, -3)
12) Oberland T-51s (92.0, -7)
13) Finch Farm Four Leafs (87.0, +4)
14) FHE Yao Guai (85.0, +2)
15) Egret Ninjas (67.0, o)
16) Lexington Synths (66.0, -4)
17) County Crossing Bloodbugs (59.0, +3)
18) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (54.0, o)
19) Salem Witch Hats (49.0, -6)
20) Warwick Mirelurks (47.0, +4)
21) Vault 81 Dwellers (44.0, +2)
22) Atom Cats (34.0, -3)
23) Concord Radstags (29.0, -2)
24) Easy Town Assaultrons (29.0, -2)

Risers

The Slog - After a 5-0 week with two road sweeps over Sunshine Tidings and Salem, the Ghouls are again battling for their success they showed in 2296 and 2297 before fading away late in 2298 to miss the playoffs. Pitching has not been their strong suit so far, but offense has with the 2nd most runs scored (79) in the NCA and the top WAR. C.T. Woodward (.387/2/13), Stoop Bugwing (.351/1/2), and Lernz Tentsleep (.339/3/12) are constantly on base. Leadoff hitter Millioncap Go (.265/4/13) currently leads the team in homers.

Quincy - Unlike The Slog, Quincy has been successful at pitching when their starters take the mound, currently 3rd in the SCA in runs allowed (64) and Starters ERA (3.96). Where the Gunners may show long-term success is in their offensive production with the most runs (94) and best batting average (.322). Steve Gunkill (.388/2/15) is finding success after sitting the bench for most of his time with Quincy where he batted just .151 with two home runs and five RBI in 2298. Seven of eight batters are above .300. Seventh batter 1B Brian Drinkwater (.302/3/11) currently is the home runs leader for the team.

Fallers

Oberland - With a weekend series loss to Diamond City, the T-51s are not out of the playoff race, but they look nothing like the team that finished with the CBO's best record in 2296 and 2297 and then got passed up late for the second-best record in 2298. While pitching has been a dominant strength, the T-51s are currently 10th in the SCA in runs allowed (89) and dead last in Bullpen ERA (5.23). They are scoring runs, currently second in the SCA (92) with the top WAR (4.6). 3B Jeremy Bugs (.484/5/20) is on the early MVP list. RF Ginger Rogers (.317/5/13) is enjoying his new role in the middle of the lineup.

Salem - While there are some players standing out, there are many just not getting the job done. This is a team that needs a long-term build, so it is looking at players on the roster now that will not be here come the middle of July. SP Terrence Artman (2-1, 1.50) has been good, but the other three starters have not. RF Chris Treestump (.324/3/6) is hitting the ball well, but he is followed up by two guys batting below .200. Salem will need to be much better at scoring runs to break away from their standing as 11th in the NCA in runs scored (61) and 12th in batting average (.238).

April 2299 - News and Notes - April 24

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

24 April 2299 - NCA Player of the Week, Combs of Nordhagen Beach

One of the league's most exciting young players, Ryan Combs of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys earned himself North Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 22-year-old center fielder had a lofty .565 average (13-for-23), collecting 1 home run, 10 RBIs and 7 runs scored.

Hitting .433 to date, Combs has 1 home run and 15 RBIs. He has played in 15 games.

24 April 2299 - Ross Selected Player of the Week

So far in his young career, Tyler Ross has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the South Charles Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 21-year-old Diamond City Swatters left fielder hit at a torrid .500 clip as he collected 10 hits in 20 at-bats, 4 home runs, 9 RBIs and 7 runs scored.

This year Ross has 8 home runs and a .381 batting average.

24 April 2299 - BMU: CA Star of the Week Honored

Jared Zaccone demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week Award.

The College Square center fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .615 average (8-for-13) with no home runs and 4 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.

24 April 2299 - BMU: Star of the Week Named in MA

It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Massachusetts Association, but last week Tim Hardman of the Forest Grove Mole Rats reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Hardman rocked opposing pitching for a .667 average (4-for-6), 3 home runs and 8 RBIs to come away with the award.

2299 - NWL - Week 1 Review

Nuka News Update

All the news you need about Bradberton and Nuka World

by Evan Guy

24 April 2299 - Garden's Strong Week Earns NWL Trophy

At the age of 30, Andre Garden might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Cherry left fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .458 batting average. For his efforts Garden collected the Nuka World League Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 11 hits in 24 at-bats, 1 home run and 6 RBIs last week in 6 games.

24 April 2299 - Orange's Tyler Weber One and Done

Tyler Weber said he's looking forward to getting home to New Albany, Indiana to relax and unwind.

At age 39, the Orange Tourists player has announced he will retire at the end of the season with only one season under his belt.

"I'm thankful for the opportunity to play in the Nuka World League, but all good things must come to an end," he said. "I know I am not cut out to do this for years, so I will enjoy my one year in the orange."

25 April 2299 - Starlight's GM Gowest Talks 2299 Run

Starlight Lady Killers GM Chris Gowest is not content with his team's results the past two seasons. After making the playoffs as the wildcard team from the Institute League in 2296, the Lady Killers have finished with back-to-back 4th place finishes. The 2297 season was particularly brutal with the Killers challenging for the CBO's best record in the first half of the season before having the second half's worst record to drop the team below .500 on the season.

Gowest came in at the start of the 2298 season with a plan in place. According to Gowest, team owner Irish Cait said that she would give him a three-year plan to turn things around, but four more years of missing the playoffs were not an option for job security reasons. Maybe even life security, too, if Cait was not kidding.

"She told me that I had better get her team to the playoffs regularly by 2301," Gowest said, "or I might make an appetizer for a bunch of mirelurks."

Gowest has confidence that four-year plan can be accelerated to 2299 if the cards fall right. He cited the early success of both the CBO team and its BMU team, the Mystic Pines Raybathers which enters today's game against the Union Hope Lifegivers (Lexington) at 8-0.

"We have a lot of parts that could help us fill in some holes on our team and make us a force," Gowest said. "It won't make it any easier to pass up Abernathy and Fort Hagen, but we can do something. We have to beat the best to be the best, right?"

To improve their team to compete, the dead weight currently on the team may either need to go away or change their roles. Third baseman Hubris McBride has been batting either first or second in the lineup, but he has been cold. His .180 batting average is currently the worst of all high lineup players in the CBO. However, his past success should indicate that he will even out as the season goes on, probably edging much closer to his .274 career average.

Another player struggling to start the season in second-year player 1B Zeldoplh Violet. After batting .292 last season with 12 home runs and 71 RBI, the 2296 Rookie Draft first-round pick is currently hitting .189 with one homer and five RBI in 15 games.

Second baseman Wild Cannon has dropped out of the starting lineup with sometimes starter Justin Gunsmith taking his place. The 2B spot would be a place where the Killers need a better player to find success, both offensively and defensively. The Starlight defensive efficiency is 10th in the North Charles Association at .647.

There are definitely some bright spots. Pitching has been overachieving, currently 2nd in the NCA in Pitcher WAR (3.2). Other than City Moore (0-3, 4.85) struggling to find wins, both the starters and bullpens have enjoyed success. Still, dropping their first league series to the Sunshine Tidings Chemists cannot instill confidence after allowing seven and eight runs in the first two games of the series. They had only allowed that number of runs twice all season previously, an opening day 8-3 loss to Finch Farm and an April 13 8-2 loss to The Slog. The Killers have now lost two of their last three series after starting out 6-1.

With the uncertainty, Gowest still believes the right moves will keep his team not only in contention for a playoff spot but a true player in the race to the Sole Survivor Series.

"We're going to keep watching how our players are reacting," Gowest said. "[Scouting Director] Mike McCluskey and I are looking at the numbers every day. If our young guys start stepping up, then we will see a lot more wins than losses. We may not need to make blockbuster trades, but we can start to build depth and make some minor improvements, especially if the prospects at Mystic Pines keep playing at such a high level."

The Killers take on The Slog for the second time this season with games today and tomorrow, both scheduled for first pitch at 7:05. The teams split earlier in the season at The Slog, with Starlight winning the first game, 8-4, and the Ghouls taking the second game, 8-2. Fourth starter Justin Sphinx (1-1, 5.06) takes the mound for the Killers, while the Ghouls' Tommy Hein (3-0, 1.71) gets the start for the BL's first place (tied) team. Tomorrow's scheduled starters are Chris Schneier (2-2, 4.55) and Dan Dozier (2-1, 4.67).

25 April 2299 - BMU: Raybathers Shut Out Lifegivers, Alexson Winner

Mystic Pines Raybathers hurler Alex Alexson was stingy with runs in his latest outing against the Union Hope Lifegivers, shutting them out 2-0 on 2 hits.

"Alex was very aggressive tonight," Mystic Pines manager Justin Chops said. "He threw everything he had with a lot of confidence."

Through 9 innings, Alexson (3-0, 0.39), the 36th overall pick in the 2298 Rookie Draft, tallied no strikeouts and allowed 4 walks.

"He was throwing strikes with all his pitches and mixing it up well," losing manager Greg Tannenbaum said. "Alexson has a sneaky fastball, and whatever that off-speed pitch was, it was keeping our timing off."

25 April 2299 - Richardson Slugs Deathclaws to 8-2 Win

The home crowd had a good time watching the Oberland T-51s and University Point Deathclaws get after it.

Behind the hitting of Kory Richardson, the University Point Deathclaws stopped the Oberland T-51s, 8-2. Richardson went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for the Deathclaws. Adam Froggatt picked up the win, improving his season record to 2-1. He struck out 7 in 9 innings.

In the first inning, Richardson had a 2-run home run for University Point. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Deathclaws on top, 2-1.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said University Point manager Woody Lumpkin.

Adam Froggatt (2-1, 4.55) pitched the complete-game victory. He allowed two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.

At 10-6, the Deathclaws have played well so far.

25 April 2299 - Bather Powers Dwellers Offense in 4-run Rally

Led by Knud Bather, the Vault 81 Dwellers defeated the Atom Cats, 7-6. Bather was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Dwellers. Dave Caveman earned the save, his 4th, for the Dwellers. Vault 81, now 5-11, is off to a slow start but playing a bit better as of late.

Vault 81 used the timely hitting of Sam Farland to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Dwellers on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer. The Dwellers entered the 9th trailing 6-3.

"Everyone's kind of edgy right now," said losing manager Paul Stands, "but nothing a couple of wins wouldn't cure."

Old Buck Buchanan (0-3, 15.00) blew his second save on the season for the Cats. In just 0.1 innings, he allowed four runs on five hits with a strikeout.

25 April 2299 - Ghouls Absorb 5-3 Loss at Valentine Detective Agency Field

Getting a good performance from first baseman Zeldolph Violet, the Starlight Lady Killers defeated the The Slog Ghouls, 5-3. Violet went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Lady Killers. He raised his batting average to .232 after starting the day batting just .189.

"I had a good game," said Violet. "Winning makes it even better."

The Ghouls had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Lady Killers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the slugging right fielder Damani Beebe came to the plate. Beebe hit a solo home run on a 1-0 changeup from The Slog hurler Tommy Hein (3-1). It was Beebe's 5th home run of the year.

Rookie Nick Maris also contributed in the Killers' win. He finished 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI. Joe Provisioner had two hits for the Ghouls, scoring twice. OK Dustin had three hits, including an RBI double. The career .352 hitter has started just four games this season, batting .423 in 12 total games.

25 April 2299 - Party Boys Win 1st Place Battle in 10

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys did just enough to sneak past the Abernathy Adamantium, 4-3, in 10 innings at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. Nordhagen Beach pitcher Derek Gist, in particular, had a standout performance. The Party Boys, now 12-4, have been on fire in the early going.

The Party Boys relied on catcher Mike Swift for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the tenth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.

"I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse," said Swift. "Believe me, it's much easier after a win."

Night Demon Archaki (1-0, 0.00) pitched a scoreless 10th to earn the win. Abernathy starter Kyle Clevinger pitched well, allowing just three earned runs on 10 hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 8.0 innings. T-Bone Heagy (1-1) suffered the loss.

25 April 2299 - Silver Shroud Win at Finch Farm, 7-3

Fort Hagen shortstop Seth Dungan contributed to his team's 7-3 win over the Finch Farm Four Leafs. Dungan, who is tied for 2nd in the NCA in triples with 2, went 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Silver Shroud. Derek Green, who went 9 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 8 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 2-0. The loss drops the Four Leafs to 7-9.

Fort Hagen used a timely hit from Mark Miller to get the win. The second baseman delivered a bases-clearing triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Silver Shroud on top, 6-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Miller said.

25 April 2299 - Gunners Sneak By Swatters, Win 9th Straight

The performance of Bryan Benton proved critical in helping Quincy beat Diamond City, 3-2. The Gunners left fielder was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs. Quincy reliever Ryan Kazarian picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Noah Williams was saddled with the loss. With their winning streak at 9, the Gunners have raced to a strong start this season.

Had Biggie Biggs not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Biggs hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Gunners.

"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Quincy manager Kevin Banner.

Good start for the Boys and a nice range of players contributing. I was pleased to see young Ryan Combs singled out and hope he can go on to be a major force.

I don't know if Quincy wishes they had this trade back for Ray Human and Danny Haircutter from 2296, but Combs has definitely emerged since last season. He was officially a rookie in 2297, but last season he finished .339/4/42 with a 3.5 WAR. In just 16 games this season, he already has a 1.3 WAR with a .446/1/15 line. His OBP is .507!!!

There was supposed to be a Lannie Tykeson story this week, but that story had to be tabled. As a hint, the story was about how he is already CBO-ready with his bat, and he was starting to look like he was CBO ready with his arm, too, since he is two-way player. However, he got shellacked by the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks in a 14-6 loss where he gave up eight earned runs in 3.2 innings. In his first two starts, however, he gave up a total of one earned run in 12 innings. He's batting .433 on 13 for 30 with 12 of those 13 hits going for singles. He also doubled, scored seven times, and drove in four.

Looking forward to hearing more about Lannie - especially as I hadn't realised he was potentially a 2-way player!

April 2299 - News and Notes - April 26

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

26 April 2299 - Wharton Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits

Sunshine Tidings Chemists first baseman Jalen Wharton went ballistic today with the bat. He hammered the County Crossing Bloodbugs for 5 hits and drove Sunshine Tidings to a 8-4 win over County Crossing at Beantown Brewery Stadium.

Jalen Wharton hit an RBI triple in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

This season Wharton is batting .362 with 2 home runs. He has scored 12 runs and driven in 16.

26 April 2299 - Teddybear Shuts Out Yao Guai, 2-0

In an excellent mound performance, Chris Teddybear of the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets whitewashed the FHE Yao Guai 2-0 on a 2-hitter.

"I had my best stuff and did a good job of mixing up my pitches," he said after the game.

In all, the Jamaica Plain hurler rang up 7 strikeouts and 1 walk in the shutout win.

"We just didn't swing the bats well today," said Yao Guai manager David Meatcook. "Teddybear did a good job keeping us guessing."

In 5 starts this season Teddybear has notched a 3-1 record and a 2.60 ERA.

26 April 2299 - Bishop Hits 2 home runs in Swatters Win

The Diamond City Swatters topped the Quincy Gunners, 7-4, with third baseman Allen Bishop playing a big role. Bishop went 4-4 with 2 home runs, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for the Swatters in the win. Tim Fusion picked up the win with 8 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 11 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 4-0. The win gives Diamond City a record of 14-3.

Diamond City took a 6-4 lead on Bishop's 3rd home run of the season. The solo home run, which he hit off Michael Thawt in the top of the seventh, propelled Diamond City to the win.

"We've got a great group of guys," Bishop said, "and we're having fun right now."

26 April 2299 - Party Boys Top Adamantium, 4-1, Behind Beach

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys topped the Abernathy Adamantium, 4-1, in North Charles Association action at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Nordhagen Beach pitcher Tommy Beach. Abernathy falls to 11-6.

Beach, who dominated for Nordhagen Beach, earned the victory to move to 3-1. He was in control the whole game, scattering 5 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 10. Abernathy batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally.

"It was a good effort all around," said Beach.

Jim Waples continued his streak at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium today, even as the ballgame did not go his way. The Abernathy second baseman was 1-for-4 in today's contest and now has hit safely in his last 20 games.

"Waples was hitting everything we threw at him," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. "He is a tough out. Fortunately, things went our way in the ballgame today and we came away with a win."
Jim Waples struck out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th and flied out in the 8th.

Waples is hitting .421 for the season with no home runs, 6 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has 32 hits in 76 at-bats and played in 17 games.

The Boys received some bad news when they learned that RF Tomas Jones will miss about three weeks with a groin injury.

26 April 2299 - Deathclaws Need Extra Frames to Get Past T-51s

Fans got some free baseball at Gwinnett Brewery Park.

University Point Deathclaws starter Quentin Malone hurled his team past the Oberland T-51s, 3-2, in 10 innings. At 11-6, the Deathclaws have played well so far. Not the same can be said for the T-51s, who are below .500.

The Deathclaws procured the win, in large part because of catcher Chad Morris. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said University Point skipper Woody Lumpkin.

The game was knotted 1-1 entering the final inning. However, University Point was able to win the runs battle in the deciding inning, 2-1. Deathclaws SS Aaron Nukacola led all hitters, going 3 for 4 with an RBI. Travis Alone of the T-51s and Jukebox Luttrell of the Claws each hit solo homers in the 10th.

26 April 2299 - Silver Shroud Take Down Four Leafs in 11, 8-7

Andrew Nuka was a vital contributor to the 8-7 Fort Hagen victory over Finch Farm. The Silver Shroud left fielder went 4 for 6 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Fort Hagen reliever Curtis Thriceshot picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ernie Peacemaker shouldered the loss. The win puts Fort Hagen at 13-4, two games up in the Institute League.

The game was all tied up in the top of the 11th, until Nuka delivered big-time for Fort Hagen, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Peacemaker. The game-changing hit put the Silver Shroud on top, 8-7.

"I give credit to my teammates for this win. We got it done," Nuka told the Fort Hagen Gazette.

Mark Miller also had four hits for the Shroud. 1B Jim Tiller was 2 for 6 with a double, a home run, two runs, and an RBI. Matt Basile went 3 for 5 with a home run, two runs, and three RBI for the Leafs. Joe Mahaney hit his team-leading fifth home run.

Fort Hagen has placed CF Ben Pawlak on the injured list after he could not go this week. He is expected back next week, though, when the Shroud host the Salem Witch Hats on May 2.

Well, for Lannie, his bottleneck passage to the CBO is that he has not been a very good pitcher. With his first two games, I was about to declare him as CBO-ready with his pitching improving, but then he got shellacked. I now will not write that story but I will instead feature a few of the OOTP namesakes in a prospects update at the end of the month. Remind me to continue giving updates in case I forget! There is a lot on my plate, so my disorganization on this dynasty may raun rampant. Or I just need to add an extra task list to my Excel document.

Two of my favorite namesakes in the league both got put on the IR on the same day: Jones and Fort Hagen's Ben Pawlak. Nate Howard had better find some stimpacks pronto!

I know it won't last, but it looks like all our favorites are doing good this year. Only one can win in the end, but at least this is a good sign one will give it a shot.

April 2299 - News and Notes - April 27

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

27 April 2299 - Med-Tek Research, CURIE, Inc. Make Stimpack Agreement

In what is becoming a hindrance for teams in the 2299 CBO season, not to mention complications in hospitals around the Commonwealth, Med-Tek Research and CURIE, Inc., have announced a joint effort to produce and manufacture stimpacks for the current supply shortage.

In a computational error, Med-Tek's batch of stimpacks was destroyed due to ineffectiveness. A stimpak is an autoinjector loaded with a variety of healing medications and stimulants. By injecting the stimpak, one drastically increase one's own recuperative functions and gains lost hit points almost instantly. In the CBO, minor injuries require one stimpack applied to the affected area, while major injuries require two or more.

Earlier this year, CBO Commissioner Nate Howard agreed to sacrifice the allotment of stimpacks per CBO and BMU team to local hospitals that are also experiencing a shortage from the increasing population and dearth of vials available.

Med-Tek has corrected its error, but its productivity is limited. By making an agreement with CURIE, Inc., which researches more potent drugs for long-term illnesses and diseases, Med-Tek should be able to meet its production needs before the end of the year.

Those goals relate specifically to supplying hospitals and clinics, so it is yet to be seen if there will be excess supplies available for the CBO to use. Howard has also hinted that independent companies or factions could get into the production, too, for example the Institute. However, there have been no announcements at this time.

Atom Cats owner Zeke Cat has sent out search parties into the wastes, stopping some of his settlement's production of power armor suits and their repairs as this team of mechanics have gone spread out in all directions seeking as many as they can find. It has yet to be determined if Howard will allow them to use any they find since it could give an unfair competitive edge to the Cats. Then again, the Cats could probably use that edge.

27 April 2299 - Roxbury Trades Mannequin for University Point's Rolled

You can focus on the negatives after being traded to a new team -- finding a new place to stay, leaving teammates and friends, having to start anew -- but one player hopes to focus on the positives.

"It means I'm wanted somewhere. At least one team sees potential in me," minor leaguer Ryan Rolled said.

Those were the comments heard after the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers came to an agreement to deal 33-year-old RHP Tom Mannequin and a 3rd round draft pick to the University Point Deathclaws for 19-year-old minor league LHP Spurs Yu, 19-year-old minor league 2B Rolled and a 4th round draft pick earlier today. The deal is expected to be formally announced later this evening.

For the season Mannequin has earned 4 saves, worked 7.2 innings, fanned 5 hitters and recorded a 3.52 ERA. He has held opposing teams to a .192 batting average. In his career with FHE and the Knuckle Punchers, Mannequin is 5-13 with 32 saves and a 5.40 ERA in 85 relief appearances. He is expected to change to a setup role in University Point since the Deathclaws already have one of the better closers in Marc Pondsip who finished with 27 saves a season ago.

I swear I didn't stack the deck!

OK, maybe I tilted trades their way a little when they received random trade events. However, I have not changed any of the GM standards, so they do have GMs that have made their fair share of good trades, too.

Right now, it is good to be Nordhagen Beach, Fort Hagen, Quincy, and Diamond City. Still, of course, like "they" say, there is too much season yet to go. I also indicated through one of my random event hints that Starlight is going to sell off its prospects at a high rate this season. Their affiliate, the Mystic Pines Raybathers are 11-0 and can sell high right now.

Actually, it is yet to be seen if Nordhagen Beach's trades are good for the long-term. If they don't win at least a championship in the next few years, they may see their window closing unless they draft some studs. They drafted well early but I think the last two drafts picked up some questionable talent.

Fort Hagen looks like it will be able to reload in time with some decent position players at the BMU level if they get any potential boosts. Diamond City has some good prospects, but they don't yet come close to Roxbury (it pays to finish in last place every season?) and Jamaica Plain.

I know this has nothing to do with 2299, but I was curious which teams were rated as having the top systems. Yikes to Quincy!!!

April 2299 - News and Notes - April 28

Four extra-inning games in the NCA!

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

28 April 2299 - Chemists Honor Fusion's No-Hitter Anniversary

The Sunshine Tidings Chemists honored current Diamond City Swatters SP Tim Fusion today in pre-game ceremonies for the anniversary of the only no-hitter in Commonwealth Baseball Organization history.

On April 24, 2296, while a member of the Chemists, Fusion pitched a no-hitter in a win against the Lexington Synths. He allowed four walks and struck out eight on the day. His no-hitter stands at the best day any pitcher has had.

Even though the feat was accomplished on April 24, the Chemists wanted to wait until they had a home game to honor Fusion before the game. He was traded in May of last season to the Swatters.

Fusion was also honored at Quincy on April 26 when he started the game. The Gunners crowd gave him a standing ovation before the first pitch. They then booed him the rest of the way as he pitched 8.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits with two walks and six strikeouts in the Diamond City 7-4 win, pushing his record to 4-0 on the season.

In two seasons and a month with the Chemists, Fusion was 24-15 with a 3.78 ERA in 45 starts. He led the Institute League in wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts in 2296 and 2297, and he finished with the IL best ERA and WHIP in 2296.

Last season with time split between Sunshine Tidings and Diamond City, he finished the season 17-7 with a CBO best ERA (2.60) and WHIP (1.09), earning him the 2298 SCA and CBO Pitcher of the Year Awards.

28 April 2299 - Hayjen 5-for-5 for Dwellers, Swatters Rally

Aesed Hayjen was a tough out and went 5-for-5 in a fine hitting display today, but the Diamond City Swatters managed to overcome his performance and top the Vault 81 Dwellers, 11-9.

"I got my pitches and I connected," Hayjen said. "They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody, and some days they fall in. And some days you lose, no matter how well you play."

On this occasion, Hayjen played well enough to get his name in the record books, tying the Vault 81 record for hits in a game. Hayjen doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI triple in the 6th, and singled in the 8th. This year Hayjen has hit 1 home run and posted a .293 batting average.

The Swatters entered the 9th inning trailing 9-8 after the Dwellers took the lead in the bottom of the 8th. With Dave Caveman on the mound attempting his fifth save, pinch hitter Danny Bloodsworn hit a first-pitch home run to tie the game, 9-9. With one out, Caveman walked two batters before Witcher Craft was caught trying to steal third base. With two outs and a runner on first, Tyler Ross got the game-winning hit, a two-run blast for the 11-9 final.

Noah Williams (3-1) picked up the win in relief. Josh Samm pitched a 1-2-3 9th to earn his ninth save on the season. Caveman (0-2) had his first blown save of the season.

28 April 2299 - Hits Galore: Samuels Drills 5 Hits

It was a hits blitz for Sean Samuels at Easy Town Field today.

The Easy Town Assaultrons center fielder tore into the Finch Farm Four Leafs for 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but it wasn't enough to win the game. The Four Leafs swept past the Assaultrons 11-10 in 10 innings to ruin Samuels's day.

"We weren't locating our pitches well," Easy Town manager Graham Route explained after the game. "Once you get behind in the count, you have to make really good pitches, rather than pretty good pitches, and we weren't able to do that today. Getting 5 hits from Sean was nice but it wasn't enough."

Finch Farm took a 11-10 lead on Danny Honeycutt's 8th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Honeycutt hit in the top of the tenth, left Easy Town pitcher Aaron Geneva shaking his head. Honeycutt finished the game 4 for 5 with two doubles, a triple, a walk, two runs, and two RBI.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Honeycutt told the Finch Farm Citizen.

Samuels doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Good Company Schiller in the 6th and singled in the 9th.

Looking at his season stats, Samuels has compiled a .360 batting average and a .405 on-base percentage, while hitting 2 home runs and driving in 9 runs.

RF Matt Basile and C Gary Gary Gary each had three hits for the Leafs. Each player doubled. Basil scored twice. Gary scored once and drove in two runs.

Jarrett Metalbox was 3 for 6 for Easy Town with two doubles, a run, and six RBI.

28 April 2299 - Silver Shroud Drop Radstags in 10, 2-0

Fans who congregated at Nuka Park were treated to extra-inning drama.

Mike Cartrette (3-1) was masterful in helping the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud take down the Concord Radstags, 2-0. Fort Hagen goes to 14-4.

The Radstags had trouble solving Cartrette, who surrendered no runs on 3 hits over 9 innings with a walk and 10 strikeouts. Curtis Thriceshot sent the Stags down in order in the 10th to pick up his fifth save and maintain a 0.00 ERA.

"Exciting game to play in," said Cartrette. "Getting the win makes it even better."

The Silver Shroud broke the scoreless tie in the top of the 10th off reliever Bell Franklin (1-3). With one out, Jim Tiller hit a triple. Andrew Nuka then singled him in for the winning run. With two outs and runners at the corner, Paul Grog singled in Nuka for the 2-0 final.

Concord starter Gwinnett Southie allowed no earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts in 8.1 innings in the no-decision.

28 April 2299 - Party Boys Pull Off Thrilling 4-3 Win in Extras

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys scored a tight 4-3 win in 10 innings versus the Salem Witch Hats at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. Nordhagen Beach pitcher Chet Arthur held his own in the contest but came away with a no-decision. Salem drops to 5-13, while the Party Boys rise to 14-4.

The Party Boys relied on second baseman Brian Masterson for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the tenth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal when Jonathan Angelou crossed the plate. Angelou hit a two-out double before Kevin Marsh (1-2) intentionally walked Dustin Mart.

Masterson said his team "played with determination."

The teams entered the 9th inning tied 2-2. Party Boys starter Chet Arthur continued into the 9th inning, but with one out, Hats RF Chris Treestump hit his fourth home run of the season for a 3-2 Salem lead. Arthur also allowed a two-run home run to SS Dan Ackerman in the 5th.

Nordhagen Beach answered in the bottom of the 9th thanks to some small ball exploits. Masterson singled to lead off the inning off Dan Beantown and moved to second on Jon Hitman's sacrifice bunt. Beantown then moved to third on Beantown's wild pitch. After Beantown walked C3-88 Puppetboy, Clux Oldstreet came through with a pinch-hit RBI single to score Masterson. It was Beantown's first blown save.
