Cards news: Nov. 23 -- Reggie Sanders hired as hitting coach
The St. Louis Cardinals have decided to make a change at hitting coach with the hiring of former Cardinal Reggie Sanders.
Sanders, 59, replaces Nick Evans who had been with the team since midway through the 2026 season. The Cardinals were one of the top home-run hitting teams during Evans' tenure, but struggled at the plate hitting just .224 in 93 games in 2026 and .231 during the 2027 season. Sanders played in the majors from 1991 through 2007, including the 2004 and 2005 seasons with the Cardinals. Seasons during which the Cardinals reached the World Series (2004) and the NL Championship Series (2005). He has spent the past three seasons with the Akron Rubber Ducks of the Eastern League. The Cardinals hope his neutral approach to hitting can help achieve more of a balance between hitting for average and power. |

Cards news: Jan. 15 -- OF Corbin Carroll brought back on one-year deal
The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the signing of Corbin Carroll to a one-year contract worth $2.56 million.
Carroll, 27, played a big role in helping the Cardinals win the 2025 World Series. Acquired in July from the Arizona Diamondbacks, he hit .276 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs in 54 games. But something happened. In 2026, Carroll hit just .196 with seven homers and 35 RBIs in 110 games. Last season, he played in 31 games/27 starts for St. Louis -- hitting just .130 with two RBIs -- before being traded to San Francisco. He didn't fare much better with the Giants, playing in 76 games/71 starts while hitting just ..154 with five home runs in 17 RBIs. With the Cardinals giving a couple of young players -- CF Jack Lausch and LF Phoenix Billings -- a chance to win starting jobs in spring training. The Cardinals probably see Carroll as insurance should the two youngsters prove not ready for the majors. |
