John Stephenson 1964-Alt. Uni 1967 Mets
Haven't been here in a while, and I notice I sort of skipped out before doing all of the 1967 Dexter Press Mets. So let's resume.
Stephenson's Mets pic in the Batters Pack is a cool pose (as if throwing the ball, presumably to catch a basestealer), but that means the hat is on backwards and he's wearing a road uniform. For a simpler shot with "NY" visible on the cap and the home uni, here's Dexter Press, doing their thing. |

Johnny Lewis 1964 - Alt. Uni. 1967 Mets
I like the composition of the Lewis/Mets pic in the Batters Pack, but there's shadow on the face, the color has faded, and the texture doesn't look so good to me. So this is a possible upgrade.

1967 Dexter Press Mets, continued.
For the rest of the Mets players in the Dexter Press set, I don't think their pictures are a significant upgrade over what's already in the Batters Pack, so I include them merely for the sake of completeness, without editing them down to 180x270 or 90x135 size shots.
Bob Shaw, whose ladies' man ways allegedly infuriated Al Lopez. ("Shaw, I see you with a different broad every night. You must be a lousy lay." —Lopez, per Jim Bouton.) Hmm, he doesn't seem that good-looking… Cleon Jones, who caught the last out of the 1969 World Series. ![]() Ed Kranepool, who now has less chance of having his #7 retired by the team. (Due to the most recent #7's relocation to South Beach. Sigh.) |

1967 Dexter Press Mets, concluded.
And the last three:
Jerry Grote. I can't believe I never noticed the skin discoloration around his mouth (burned as a child? genetic?) until now. Ken Boyer, not just an MVP, but mentor to another. (Keith Hernandez, whom Boyer managed in the minors, and who won the MVP in 1979 when Boyer was managing the major-league Cardinals. Keith credits Boyer with saving his career, when he was having trouble sticking with the big club in 1975-1977.) A young Ron Swoboda, two years after Casey Stengel praised him as "19 years old, and in 10 years, he's got a chance to be one of the best players in the game." (Of course, the more famous part of the quote is where Casey moved on to Greg Goossen, saying Goossen was "20 years old, and in 10 years, he's got a chance to be 30." Heh.) |

Jerry Grote 1963 - Alt. Uni. 1965 Astros (Spring Training)
While I'm discussing Grote, I may as well include this picture, taken during Spring Training 1965. Grote had played 3 games for 1963 Colt .45s and was a platoon regular in 1964, but he spent all of 1965 farmed out to Oklahoma City while Gus Triandos and Ron Brand handled the catching in Houston. So Grote never actually played a game as an Astro, but here he is in an Astros uni.
(You may notice that the 'stros have just patched a Lone Star over the ".45s" logo on the caps; apparently the full " 'H'-on-star" cap design hadn't been created yet.) |

Philadelphia Phillies uni, possibly a better image than the one used in the Facepack.
