1962 Indianapolis Indians - 3
Ed Drapcho was on the 1961 White Sox spring roster.
Glen Rosenbaum was a non-roster invitee with the White Sox in 1956, 1957, and 1958. (I can't vouch for 1959, because I haven't figured out the NRI's for that year yet). |

Anthony Tornay
For those of you who prefer images in color, here is catcher Anthony "Nini" Tornay. He was a non-roster invitee with the 1959 Kansas City Athletics. (The 1959 NRI's are a work-in-progress).
The photo comes from a slide-show which accompanied his obituary. He died on June 22, 2015. Tony Tornay Register Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com |

This team photo is way too small for making a satisfactory identification. Last edited by Cusick; 08-11-2016 at 08:35 AM. Reason: Add Elvio Jimenez and Art Fowler. |

Bill Lachemann
Catcher Bill Lachemann is the brother of major leaguers Rene and Marcel. He is best known as a coach for the California Angels in 1994 and 1995.
He made an appearance as a non-roster invitee player with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1959. An article in the L.A. Times on March 1, 1959 indicated that he would be in the starting lineup that day for the Dodgers' first intrasquad game of the spring training season. He was due to face the likes of Ron Fairly, Carl Furillo, Frank Howard, and Johnny Podres on the opposing side. This photo comes from The Oregon Statesman (Salem, OR) of June 26, 1961. It shows him in the uniform of the Salem Dodgers. Bill Lachemann Register Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com |

Jim Allicotti
Jim Allicotti passed away in June at the age of 85. A right-handed hitter, Baseball-Reference indicates he played only 3 seasons in the minors--the first two as part of the St. Louis Browns organization--but its believed the B-R record is not complete as SABR has uncovered at least one regular season boxscore in a wire story showing that he played (at least that game) for the Spokane Indians of the WIL in 1952 or 1953. Apparently, minor league teams of that time routinely did not include stats for hitters with fewer than 10 at bats in their final season tallies...something I did not know.
Jim missed part of one season and all of 1951 serving in the military. Between baseball seasons, he worked as an extra in Hollywood films. After baseball, he became a teacher. And, after retiring from teaching, Jim went back to working as an extra--this time in television. Jim stood 6' 2", weighed between 180 and 190, batted and threw right-handed (all details missing from B-R). He was an outfielder who could flat-out fly. But he was a light hitter. He was one of those guys you'd like to bat leadoff because he could make things happen on the basepaths, but you couldn't bat leadoff because you can't steal first. I love the image of Jim with the 1950 Miami OK Eagles of the KOM League. That's cool. That says "baseball" to me. I don't suppose anybody knows what the uniform colors were. I mean, I'd love to colorize the image, but I don't want to be guessing about the colors (I could not find anything on line). I'm tempted to go blue and gold (don't ask me why). That image comes from John Hall's Flickr feed. John literally wrote the book on the KOM league. He was once a batboy for the KOM League's Carthage Cubs. The other image is a spring training image of Jim with Spokane in 1952 from the Spokesman-Review of April 12. Just cuz. |

Cal Ripken, Sr.
A fairly decent shot of Ripken, Sr. with the Fox Cities Foxes. This is from the Appleton (WI) Post-Crescent of April 29, 1960.

Lee Elia
Haven't looked at the minors thread for awhile, and I have a couple of items requested herein.
So here's a companion to the earlier 1958 shot of Elia signing with the Phillies. This is included, and given quite prominent play, in the '60 Phils yearbook. |
