Elio Chacon Pilots
UOTE=krantzbucks;4305727]This is a tough one to modify given the helmet. I find the sort of transformation you desire to be better accomplished via a photoshop copy and paste of a pilots cap from a second image onto the original. This works best with a cap to cap whereas this one has a helmet. I have attempted to modify the helmet into a Pilots batting helmet. I could not get the "wings" to appear in a correct perspective.[/QUOTE]
THANKS SO MUCH. Great job. Hope that I not stepping on any toes by using your photo for a card. here is a 1971 topps style of Chacon, also Chacon with the Portland Beavers Last edited by rlumpkin1@tampabay.rr.com; 04-03-2018 at 12:05 AM. |

A White Whale or two, plus a LLWS superstar
From the same source that produced that great Montanez photo, here are a couple of interesting Cardinals farmhands would very much love to have colorized:
1) Ramon Hernandez had already pitched for the Braves and Cubs before spending 1 1/2 seasons in the Cardinals system. Pittsburgh acquired him before the 1971 season from the Mexican League and he went on to have a nine-year career. 2) Walt "No Neck" Williams appeared in 10 games for the 1964 Colt 45s, but did not return to the majors until 1967 for the White Sox. He spent 2 1/2 seasons in between with the Cardinals, including a tremendous 1966 in which he hit .330 with 193 hits for their AAA club in Tulsa. 3) Jim Hutto was drafted by the Cardinals from the Red Sox in the minor league draft for the 1968 season, but after the year was part of the deal in which St. Louis reacquired fan favorite Bill White from the Phillies. He played for Philly in 1970, the Orioles in 1975. 4) Art Deras was an outfielder for the St. Louis system between 1964-68 without ever getting the call. But his claim to fame came much earlier, as he was arguably one of the best players ever in the Little League World Series. Two years later, he was the standout on a team that won the old Pony League World Series and got a big bonus to sign with the Cardinals. Looks to have been a spring training camp invite for St. Louis in 1968. |

Bruce Campbell not Bob Campbell 1930
I am unaware of any player named Bob Campbell who played in the Major Leagues. The player, recently shown colorized, who made his debut in 1930 with the Chicago White Sox and subsequently went on to play for the St. Louis Browns is in fact BRUCE Campbell.

Les Mann 1913
The contributor states that he is shown as a Cub. Mann played for the Chicago Cubs early in his career from 1916 to 1919. He would be 23-26 years of age. I believe the image colorized shows an older man and therefore more likely it shows him later in his career most probably as a Boston Brave in a 1926 uniform.
I show him when he was with the Cubs in 1916. The only possible uniform from that perioid that could be a Cubs uniform is from 1918. In the 1918 uniform the vertical lines on the cap are all of equal strength. The image colorized shows a stronger more defined line surrounded by less strongly defined lines on the cap. This is a better match with the 1926 uniform when Mann would be 33. Both uniforms have the team name shown on the front but in respect of the image shown it is most likely covered. The 1926 uniform also shows a more defined collar which seems more consistent with the colorized uniform. I also show the 1918 cubs uniforms and 1926 Braves uniform. Don't want to get into a spitting contest with this but here is another shot
of Mann in an alternate 1916 Cub uniform. Note the center stripe in the cap is definitely stronger that the other stripes. The face looks pretty much the same to me. I'll let the user decide the issue. Those in doubt can use this poorer qualtiy one for a Cub pic. |
