Winning the WC game was big, but I was not looking forward to the match-up again with Exeter. The good news was that Game 5 was a 14 inning thriller, that I blew open off Stan Coveleski and Eppa Rixey, and came up with a 10-4 victory on the road. Dutch Leonard with the win after going 3 scoreless extra innings.

Game 1: 3-2 Defeat
Game 2: 11-4 Victory
Game 3: 5-4 Victory
Game 4: 4-3 Defeat
Game 5: 10-4 Victory

The only bad news was that to advance, I'd pulled a few starters into the pen, figuring that if I needed them, I'd rather have them get me into ACS, than look good and rested all off season. Well, they got used a few pitches each, so rooting thru the pen for what will be a rough opening game of the ACS, but we'll juggle and figure that out.

Fairly excited as this was a best case scenario, and I honestly thought Exeter was going to pick up his 11th championship.

Onto the next round!

The Raccoons had a nice season in this slightly smaller than normal league (4 teams/division) winning 116 games, but falling short of Cleveland for most wins and best RDiff.

Keefe won is 2nd pitching triple crown and Keeler won yet another batting title (having a 113 contact rating hitting in a hitter's park probably helps). Keeler is hitting .333 for his career and has 200+ Hs in all 10 of his seasons in perfect.

Schilling had a poor year and is banished to the bullpen for the playoffs with 99 Johnson being the #4 SP, though I might be tempted to use him to start if we play Cleveland in the WS. I don't know, he's just been so unreliable this year.

We won the 1st round of the playoffs, 3-1 and are currently up 1-0 in the LCS. We're hoping to go on to the WS and face the Cleveland Crushers since playing them should make for an entertaining WS (I hope!).

P421 Update

The Red Raiders are up against the Golden Grizzlies in the NC Sub-League Series, the Grizzlies fresh off a shocking sweep of Pawnee. Should be an epic battle!

In total I had 10 players hit at least 10 HR's, and that didn't include my DH, Bill Madlock, who hit a robust .348. There were a couple of non-Cubs in the rotation, but today I picked up their replacements, and next year we'll be 100% Cub. There is a disturbing lack of Cub talent CF looking around though, Jerome Walton was decent while he played, and Andy Pafko but up some big numbers, but his glove scares me, and I saw Adolpho Phillips on the AH tonight, and his glove looks great, his bat not so much. Finally, looks like Don Kessinger is going to be my SS at least until I can find a Sandberg to play 2B, and stop using Javy Baez as a utility player, and move him full time to short.

Kind of funny, but started to realize that for a team with a long history, the Cubs greats don't have a ton of impressive cards, and there are some positions where they certainly have not developed good talent.
As a fellow Cubs fan myself, I might do a theme Cubs team in PT 3.0. I can't deal with managing more than 1 team at a time. lol

I suppose Cap Anson playing 1B would look nice at some point? It's a $150 card though.

Who knows, maybe Brailyn Marquez gets a nice fat Future Legend card in PT 3.0. You can assemble a pretty good staff from Mordecai Brown, Pete Alexander, Greg Maddux, Rick Reuschel, Jake Arrieta, Mark Prior, Fergie Jenkins. Bullpen could have Sutter and Lee Smith in it.

Do you limit yourself to only cards that are Cubs versions of the player? Or could you have Indians Kenny Lofton, Braves Greg Maddux, Cardinals Lou Brock etc?

The Summoners lose to the WhoDats, 3 games to 2. Their perfect Pedro gave up 1 hit in a complete game shutout, while mine gave up 2 runs in 5 innings. Congrats and good luck to them

The top 4 teams during the regular season make up the 4 sub-league series teams, the only one who doesn't have a championship are the tough luck Fort Lee Christies, 0-17 overall and 0-14 in Perfect League. The Summoners themselves now have 11 Perfect League appearances and no victories, 1-16 overall.

Ozzie Smith (90), Ichiro Suzuki (82) are my offensive weak links. Ozzie is tops in defense and has great speed, so there's no real issue there. Ichiro is good defensively but isn't amazing as my center fielder, so it's finally time to jump off the 'no live cards' train and put in Mike Trout (100) in.

Dah Bears get swept by the Pawtucket Poets as predicted. Unfortunately for the Poets, they are up against a tough opponent in the Jonestown Athletics. No upsets in this division either, with the top 4 teams making the final four in the playoffs.

I will outline all of the changes in their thread, but Dah Bears are going to make a couple of shifts for right-handed dominance.

The Grizzlies wiped out Ed Walsh and the Red Raiders 10-3 in Game 1, but Huntley finally dealt Golden its first defeat in the 2039 playoffs in Game 2, as 99 Walter Johnson bested 100 Walter Johnson 2-1. On to Glendale for Game 3...

My 92-70 Good Boah's have somehow made it to a Perfect League final. We knocked off a 131-31 5x PL champ in the Division Series to do it.

But this team absolutely does not belong in the finals. We've made the playoffs 3 of the past 4 seasons but usually that's been due to a poor conference.

The Golden Grizzlies defended their home turf well, winning 3-2, 7-4, and 2-1 to take the Sub-League Series 4-1 over the Huntley Red Raiders. They await the winner of the AC Sub-League Series, which the Delaware Blue Hens lead 3-2 over the Ottawa Knights. The cool thing here is that, no matter which teams wins the P421 title, it will be their first Perfect League championship! Good luck to all teams still standing!

The top teams in each conference will be meeting in the WS. The 116 W Raccoons will play the 123 W Cleveland Crushers. Fortunately, their series went the distance (we won ours 4-1) so Keefe is now fully rested for the opener vs 100 Clemens (their #3 SP). In our only meeting during the regular season, we won 2 of 3 (all 3 were decided by 2 R or less).

It's going to be tough, but if we can win this, it will be 2 straight perfect championships. And if we do win 2 straight, that will almost certainly be the end of the streak since we're joining a league full of whales next week.

The two teams I expected to die just as quickly as my main did...are both in their sub-level series.

Steelport have breezed through the playoffs, while Metuchen used a massive upset of the team that whooped them in regular season play to propel them to bigger and better things.

Game 1 of the Division Series with the Space Cadets was the most exciting. Walter Johnson wasn't very sharp and the Magpies fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, but clawed back to tie, only to have Lee Smith and Carl Hubbell cough up 1 run each. In the 9th, their copy of Lee Smith came on to try for his 49th consecutive save. The only reason I know this is because in the game notes at the bottom of the box score was a note about Lee Smith's 48 game save streak. So we tied it in the 9th and won in the 10th. The remaining games were split, so I moved on to the LCS.

The 82-81 Costa Rica Dart Frogs were no match and went down 4 games to none.

In the finals, I meet the wild card entry of the other conference, the 94-69 Bad Boyz Black Panthers. They beat 118 win Brooklyn Bombers and 108 win Asbury Springboks and edge past my Cy Young in game 1 of the Finals 2-1, as the bats fail to show up.

The Colonels beat the Silver Sox in six games. The final was a comeback vistory in the bottom of the ninth with Wade Boggs delivering the 2-out hit off 100 Rivera. We play the League City Astros in the PL Series, and our work is not yet complete.

The Colonels captured their second PL championship 4-1. George Brett was series MVP again and also received his second league MVP award. This was close to being a three-peat as we lost last year's final in extra innings.

Perfect Loss!

The Raccoons had a 3-1 lead against the Crushers with our ace Keefe vs 97 Johnson. We lost 3-0, but what's interesting is how we lost. Johnson was perfect!! Even being on the receiving end of this is pretty cool. I've never seen a perfect game in a post-season in all of my OOTP years. So now we're up 3-2 and are returning to Cleveland. Hopefully we can hang on and win this. Congrats to Cleveland on the perfect game!

p.s. - The game summaries really need to note when a perfect game/no-hitter is thrown.

11-2 playoff run including a championship series sweep with a dominant 3 man rotation of Rijo, Soto and Riddle who threw a Maddux in the penultimate game. Series MVPs were Votto, Robinson and Pinson

Votto was 2nd in league MVP voting behind Clemente, in the other conference Cy Young won pitcher of the year and MVP

The Glendale Golden Grizzlies finished off a spectacular 12-2 playoff run with a 4-1 Perfect League Series win versus the Ottawa Knights. Congrats to the Grizzlies!
