Rodger Bland may have been the official Player of the Game, but this was all about new faces as some regulars got the day off.

Bob Allen got his first major league hit. Ricky Jordan go this first major league home run. Armando Torres got his first major league home run... and it was a 9th inning game winner as the Jays beat the Angels 5-4!

And who got the win? A brand new Jay!

WP - Greg Green (1-0)
Save - Lee Smith (4)
LP - Dudley Sanders (2-4)

Record - 27-43

Spike Owen and Sam Wilson are now both leading at their positions in All-Star Voting!

Ryne Sandberg is still in 2nd and Michael Klinger is in 3rd.

Ron Hassey is placed on the DL. It is expected he will be available as soon as it is possible to reactivate him.

Sergio Martinez is called up from AAA.

Mark Carreon of Stratford was named Player of the Week for his A league.

Dave Clark of Lethbridge was named Player of the Week for his Short A league.

Gabe Harris of Woodstock was named Player of the Week for his Rookie league.

For the majors it was Jose Cruz, Orioles & Gregg Jeffries, Cardinals

The Blue Jays have moved up to #24 on the Weekly Power Rankings, ahead of the Phillies and Expos.

Whatever is wrong with Orel Hershiser, he acknowledges it. He accepted a demotion to AAA, even though he didn't have to.

Howard RIchmond was called up in his place. Hopefully he can work it out.

We are now being told that Ron Hassey's recovery time is unclear.

This is a huge loss as neither Mauro Morin or Sergio Martinez have been that impressive behind the plate. The team needs Hassey's presence back there.

The game in Baltimore has been rained out.

Tomorrow is now a double header.
