Had a dominating team/season in R53 taking 1st overall with a record of 110-52. Went on to a disappointing lose in game 6 of the Divisional Finals. Had a lot of fun my first week despite the disappointing end to the season.
Cheers!!! |

Had two teams in Gold playoffs. One team 97 wins and the 116 in the regular season. The 116 win team lost in the 11th inning of game 5 in the divisional round and will be returning to gold. The 97 win team is currently playing in the Series and will make its first Diamond appearance next week.

The regular season pattern seems to be 1) slow start 2) hot summer 3) September swoon. And so it was in 2049, where the Magpies were tied with about 10 to play and facing a 4-game set with the team they were tied with. They lost all 4, of course, as part of a 7-game losing streak, however, I did manage to log on early enough Saturday night to insure Face Walter Johnson would be available for the wild card game and 104 overall wins isn't exactly bad.
Face Walter justified his high price tag with a complete game, 12K performance against the Dumpster Fire who remain in the dumpster. Next up was the #1 seed (113 wins) Jonestown Rockhounds who have no less than 8 diamond league championships. Broom time! That's right, the Magpies sweep them in 3 games! Next up, 3 time Diamond champion and 2 time Perfect League playoff team, Wayzata Trojans. Collingwood drops the first two on the road, then equalizes at home, but drops game 5. Game six is a romp and Face Walter Johnson shuts the door in game 7 (with a little help from Face Plank)! Onto the finals to face the Charlotte Knights. They have 4 Diamond championships and 1 Perfect League Championship on their resume. Broom time! A complete game 11-1, 2 hitter, from Face Spahn sends everyone home early in game 4 and Perfect League reject, Face Clemente, is series MVP. |

Face Walter Johnson didn't remain my most expensive player for very long.
So much easier than trying to run down 600+ elusive cards! I really can't believe people are willing to sell this after going through all the trouble to get it. |

It's early, but I thought I would savor the moment: first place by 2 games.
My opponents: Minneapolis 4th time in Perfect, best record so far is 65 wins Flagstaff the team to beat. 10th time in PL and 2030 PL champions. When playing in Diamond, wins about 120 games on the average. Ouch! Glendale Another great team, also 10th time in PL. Had a run of 6 consecutive weeks in PL missing out on the 7th by 1 game. Long Beach 6th time in PL with a couple PL playoff appearances. |

Flagstaff is a tough team, Millers are another tough bunch I don't like to face at all.

Reviewing the Perfect team participants this week, it is interesting how many (around 75%) of the teams that completed over 400 Missions. I am assuming theses did all the FOTF missions and have all the same superstars like FOTF TY Cobb and Pedro? The others must have bought the big name FOTF players. Good Luck to you and Orcin in the Perfect league this week.

Day Two and I'm still in the hunt, although it's difficult when you only have 1 starting pitcher with an ERA below 5. That would be Warren Spahn who was named pitcher of the month in April AND May. He is 11-0 in 11 starts and leads the entire league in ERA. Tom Seaver is over 7 so moved him to the bullpen in favor of 99 Maddux. My bullpen which I figured to be my weak link is actually #1 in the conference!

Two 10 game win streaks so far in ST237 and now a month where I'm barely able to keep .500 over the month. Ups and downs baby.
Cheers!!! |

Fun while it lasted.
The Magpies have begun to sink into the depths after going 10-15 in June and are now 4.5 games behind. 2 back in the wild card though. My conference is definitely the weaker one based on interleague games. .500 should make the playoffs in my conference.
I have the best pitcher in the whole league in Warren Spahn and the absolute worst pitcher in the whole league in Walter Johnson. Along with Pedro Martinez these 3 cards account for 60% of games started league wide. Collectively, Spahn's ERA is 4.40, Johnson's is 4.35, and Pedro's is 4.05. When so few unique cards are used, I guess someone's card has to smell like a pile of dog manure. Edit: Breaking News--Warren Spahn is pitcher of the month for the 3rd month in a row! Edit: Mistake: it's not 60%-- it's 51.1% Last edited by bailey; 10-21-2020 at 11:53 PM. |

Still kicking
The Magpies righted the crashing ship in July and regained a tie with the Grizzlies for first place. The wild card is also extremely close. There are 4 wildcards and each playoff qualifying team plays the wild card round in a best of 5 series.

This week I had Chuck Finley get 4 strikeouts in an inning.
In case you were wondering, that is worth 2500 points, it is called a hi def inning.

20 games to go and still hanging around the postseason contenders! Half game back for the last wild card spot. 3 games behind for the division. The Oracle gives me 47% chance.
Just noticed the brutal schedule. It's just not bad enough the opponents are brutal, but the schedule is a nightmare. The whole thing is over in 181 game days, so just 19 days off, of which 4 are around the all-star game. Compare to the standard 30-team schedule which takes 187 game days, therefore has 25 days off. No wonder micro-ing every game at perfect level is so important. You also need 4 or 5 pitchers in reserve to avoid gassed bullpens. Twenty games to go and no more days off, but it's too nice a day to stay inside. |

Crunch Time
After the last dreary post, the Magpies won 8 in a row to go into 1st place by 2 games and Oracle odds of a playoff spot grew to 97%. With a magic number of 7 for a playoff spot, 4 games later, 4 losses and "magic" number remains 7. Tied with the Grizzlies for 1st and 3 game lead for final wild card spot. I did make a roster move by adding an arm to the pen in place of a backup OF. 9 games to go.

I guess this is why I was losing. I should have stayed home and micro'ed!
4 to play need 3 wins against Flagstaff, the team I identified in my first 2050 post as "the team to beat"! |

Wow you were in the playoffs, but lost the last 5 games. Very competitive league. At least you had a winning record. I see Orcin snuck in as a wildcard in the other conference. And waittillnextyear froggy team had a rough season.

...and got swept, losing 11-9, 7-1, and 8-4. So, since being demoted back to Gold, Huntley has made the playoffs 7 times in 8 seasons, winning 3 division titles and appearing in 4 Wild Card games, and has a horrendous 3-15 playoff record and 0 Sub-League Series appearances. This game is dead to me.

Well another dominating season for the Halifax Cardinals this time in ST237 and yet another lose in the Division Series. The playoffs RNG just freaking hate man I swear. Oh well onto Iron my Cardinals go.
