Mel still the Master
Another player has a solid run at Mel Ott's AtHoL-record 31-game hit streak, only to come up agonisingly short.

Just wanted to say how much I enjoy all your threads. Blows me away how you're able to have several projects going at the same time and provide so much detail about all of them. Thanks for making my work days go by faster

Gone fishin'...
Despite him seemingly following his IRL odd / even year phenomenon, with them just a game out of the WC race this is a huge loss for the Herrings, especially as it means he'll miss a good part of '49 as well.

Finally it falls...
After all those close calls, Keith Hernandez - who will no doubt be in the mix for this seasons's KA Elysian Medal - finally breaks Jackie's record, but only just.

1948 AtHoL Race Update
Into the final 20 games of the 1948 AtHoL regular season and there's plenty still up for grabs.
While Cincinnati, Jacksonville and Lewiston have all but cemented their spots in the post-season, the other three Bands look set to go down to the wire. ![]() ![]() ![]() And it is anyone's guess how the two WC races are going to play out. The ABCs are coming hard and the Reds are playing some really good baseball of late, so my money is on them. ![]() ![]() While we are still mathematically viable, at this point we simply aren't playing well enough consistently enough to catch those above us. The root of all our problems...
... is my utter lack of faith in our bullpen, which often means I leave our SP in too long. This faithlessness, as can be seen here, is entirely justified and needs to be one of my main focuses for 1949. This devastating loss pretty much kills us off for the season.
![]() Unbelievably the exact same thing happens the following day, even down to the same hitter delivering the killer blow.

Good to see...
... teams from Boston's ability to lose under any circumstances transcends simulated timelines...
![]() They did that despite this effort from Randy K. ![]() Must've been a nice day for a ride...

CAG 1948 Recap
A full league recap after the playoffs but I thought I'd get our season recap done now.
I won't lie to you, I'm struggling with this save and, in particular, with the team I've put together. Strange results and player performances beyond the pale. A few organisational SNAFUs haven't helped. Fingers crossed it's just teething problems that settle down before too long and the new structure gets things back on track. We are eliminated handily and finish 85-81, 3rd in our Band and 6 GB the Stars. Our story is easily dissected: high BA and good clutch hitting + little power or speed + terrible defence + atrocious pitching = mediocrity aplenty. Let's hope the newly-christened Chicago Whales mark a new chapter for the franchise in more than just name. Here are some specifics from the season: Batting Stats ![]() Pitching Stats ![]() Team Stats ![]() Plenty of work in the offseason to get this group where it needs to be. 1948 AtHoL Playoffs
None of last season's late drama this time around, with the only point of interest on the final day in the LA Flood Band where it remained undecided which of Detroit and Toronto would enter the post-season as Band Champion and which as WC. In the end, the Stars got home by 2 games.
The standings finished as follows: ![]() ![]() I'll do a separate post for each round. |
