Nagoya Stadium

For almost 50 years (1948~1996), Nagoya Stadium served as the home of a Japanese team whose uniform looks exactly like the Dodgers. After the team moved to Nagoya Dome in 1997, this older stadium was renovated and continued to be used by the team's Ni-Gun squad. The so-called "renovation" was actually a big downgrade - more than half of the seats and upper deck removed, lights removed, scoreboard simplifed.....etc. I guess the minor league doesn't need so much facility and the tear down was to save cost.

This model aims to restore Nagoya Stadium's historical form, with 35000 seats and a full featured big league ballpark. I remember reading an interview by a retired player, who said that this is a very hitter friendly ballpark. The field is relatively small and outfield walls quite low. Pitchers used to worry about every fly ball because they all seem to go pretty far. I made sure to retain those dimensions and the ballpark factors should reflect more offensive numbers.

Absolutely stunning, F_C. I can already hear the chants for Jack Elliot to slug another home run. "Big hit, happy body!"

Taipei Municipal Baseball Stadium

Not many people know of this stadium. Taipei Municipal Baseball Stadium existed from 1959 to 2000 and can be considered a baseball cathedral in Taiwan's history. Many memorable events happened here, such as CPBL inaugural game (where Sadaharu OH was part of the Ceremonial first pitch), countless international/local competition, Dodgers' exhibition series with CPBL teams, crazy fans climbing the light pole in order to watch the games.....etc. It's not hard to feel the passion in this place.

However, despite being in the heart of downtown, Taipei Stadium was not well maintained. I read about the place being really run-down, having light issues, sewage problems, even infested by rats at some point! None of these caused Taiwan baseball fans to not love the place. As time goes on, many newer stadiums have appeared in several major cities in Taiwan so it is inevitable the old Taipei Stadium would eventually be phased out. In December 2020, it was officially demolished, and the construction of a new indoor skating arena would begin.

I always think it's important to preserve and study history as much as we can. So here it is, the baseball cathedral of Taiwan:

Nicely done!

Only 360 to center? Dang, that's a short porch there!

Yeah, some of the older Asian stadiums had smaller dimensions for sure.

With the new baseball season and OOTP24 just around the corner, I'm making plans to build several ballparks as well. Here are the ones that I have my eyes on:

Stade Canac in Quebec, Canada
Estadio 5 de Septiembre in Cienfuegos, Cuba
Heiwadai baseball stadium (historical stadium in Fukuoka, Japan)
Chengqing Lake baseball stadium in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

These will be making me busy over the next few weeks/months for sure

Can't wait for Stade Canac! Any chance you might look at Stade Amadee Roy in Sherbrooke at some point (pretty quirky left field that actually has a hill up to the fence, like CF in old Minute Maid)

Cool park! The incline probably won't work well in game. Players would be cut off. I can certainly make it in 3D, or we leave it flat. What do you think?

I think I would rather see the hill added and deal with the players getting cut off. Correct me if I am mistaken, as I have not made a stadium in quite some time, but is there a way to position the fielder so they would actually stop at the base of the hill as opposed to the base of the fence? The incline itself is quite sharp (thinking like 60 degrees), to the point that the hill is more like an extension of the fence.

Good idea. That might be the best way to handle it. I'll align the wire frame along the warning track and create 3D incline behind it as part of the aesthetics. I've never attempted this type of "invisible wall" so not sure if it will work. We will see

Wanna take a shot at US Bank Stadium since they held an NCAA weekend invitational?

That's something if you want ideas for down the road: taking some football stadiums or even soccer stadiums from around the world and place a diamond in them!

to Canuck:

i think silvam14 concerning inclines with Minute Maid in Houston with the hill set the fence posts so that the fielders do not go into the hill waist deep. it is a good tradeoff.

just for fun, and i mentioned this to asrivkin, how about somebody doing a really old fictional field set just after the civil war?
i mean, imagine little house on the prairie type field with:
no real skinned infielders areas, just kind of worn basepaths
no real skinned home plate area, just kind of worn batter and catcher areas
no real skinned pitchers mound, just kind of worn pitcher area
no fences to speak of. perhaps a house or barn or corral here or there. i think that one can get by with setting "fences" at 1 foot if one does not want to see the ball roll 600 feet.
options could be:
1. little house on the prairie field
2. wild west field just outside OK Corral
3. civil war era camping grounds
4. 1800s urban with broken windows possible

can one make a field without the traditional infield? imagine just paths between bases. imagine a pick up game set in 1866.

I did similar thing with BC Place. The challenge is fitting the field inside. I really don't prefer one side of the field to be so short mainly because the game seems to have a minimum distance. Anything shorter would cause balls and players to go through the fence even when the wire frame is set correctly. Over the years, I don't know if this has changed in the game but I highly doubt it (nor do I think it's a priority).

One work around with BC Place is I actually removed sections of the lower bowl so we can have a normal diamond fit in there. I'll take a look at more stadiums like that in the future (e.g US Bank as you mentioned).

Sounds interesting. I don't mind doing fictional or unusual stadiums like those. After I'm done with my current batch, we can see what else to do and make it fun.

Hello, I'm new around here but I was planning a first expansion in the Northwest and saw your Vancouver stadium and blown away. Sorry Portland, maybe next time! Thanks for the work that's in all the stadia in this thread.
