BoxRec lists Sal's full name as Salvatore Canata DOB and DOD from Find a Grave website for Salvatore Canata, 13 Oct 1913 to 26 Nov 1991. Buried Saint Jerome Cemetery, Holyoke, Hampden County, Massachusetts. Wed, Nov 27, 1991, Daily Hampshire Gazette, Northampton, Mass - Obituary for Salvatore Canata, 78 of Holyoke. Notes date of birth Oct 13, 1913 in Sicily, Italy, the son of Nicholas and Lucy Canata. Obituary says he was well known in the area as an amateur boxer in the 1930's and later becoming a boxing instructor training many area fighters. Does not mention his pro career? Sat, Jun 24, 1939, The Brattleboro Reformer, VT - Hub Parker was back in the ring again at the Brattleboro Community Hall arena two weeks after his narrow upset of Mike O'Dowd In another 6 round fight, Hub Parker, lost a decision to Sal Canata, of Holyoke, Mass. The decision was "loudly booed" but the Community Hall crowd. No fight weights were found for either fighter though the article mentioned Parker had a four pound advantage. The fight Parker displayed a good left uppercut. He through a lot of "Sunday punches" with his right but could not land them. His "haymaker rights"? In the third round, one of those Parker upper cuts landed sending Canata down. The Bell though, stopped Referee Joe Gelinas' count. This fight is not listed in Sal Canata's BoxRec file.
