Al Pellagrini

Long shot, but I'm hoping someone might be able to help locate a photo. Al Pellagrini is the younger brother of former major leaguer Eddie Pellagrini. Al played 2 years of minor league ball for the Orioles. He was with Cordele (GA) in 1955 and with Paris (TX) in 1956

Thanks!
Ken

This photo shows him with the Paris Orioles. It's from the Paris (TX) News of April 29, 1956.

Bob Morem

Furman Bisher, the great sportswriter for the Atlanta Constitution, once opined that Bob Morem should have been playing third base for the Washington Senators instead of Cecil Travis. That's high praise, since some would argue that Travis belongs in the HOF.

Bob Morem was on the Senators' spring roster in 1942 and 1946, but never made the big leagues. He topped the .300 mark in five different seasons of minor league ball.

He is shown here in the uniform of the Greenville Spinners. The photo is from the Greenville (SC) News of April 9, 1941. The caption calls him "Rob" Morem.

The 1950's era NFL New York Giants were a pretty good football team but they also had some pretty good baseball players. Quarterback Charley Conerly (OF for Mississsippi) and defensive end Andy Robustelli (3B for Arnold College) were considered pro baseball prospects coming out of college. Backup QB Bobby Clatterbuck was a pitcher-outfielder for a University of Houston team that went to the college world series. Halfback-end Kyle Rote played minor league ball for a season and has already been posted here. Two other Giants had a shot in the minors: defensive back Emlen Tunnell played a few games as an outfielder for the 1949 Cedar Rapids Rockets (although research has suggested he was more highly regarded as a pitching prospect)

Emlen Tunnell Register Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com

Center Ray Wietecha was an OF-!B who played for part of a season with the Charlotte Hornets.

Another baseball connection was defensive back Lee Riley Jr., son of long time minor leaguer and cup of coffee major leaguer Lee Riley Sr., and older brother of basket player/coach/executive Pat Riley. Anyway, here are pictures of Tunnell with Cedar Rapids and Wietecha with Northwestern University in their baseball uniforms:

Don Vesling

Don Vesling was the Tigers 14th round pick in 1987 out of Eastern Michigan University. He also was the place kicker for the EMU football team. Don spent 6 seasons in pro ball with 139 games out of 147 spent with the Tigers org. He made it to AAA during the1989 season pitching for Toledo and going 3-6 in 11 starts with a 3.66 E.R.A. He remained in AAA in 1990 going 3-6 with a 5.02 E.R.A in 35 games with 11 of those being starts. He floundered in 1991 carrying a 6.65 E.R.A thru 12 games pitched and was sent to AA London where he started 18 games and had a 7-8 record and a 5.37 E.R.A. He returned to AA in 1992 and was 4-3 with a 8.03 E.R.A in 12 games (9 starts) and was released. He finished his pro career with 8 games for the Padres AAA club at Las Vegas posting a 5.06 E.R.A.

Steve Armstrong: Man of Mystery

Name: Steve Armstrong.jpg

Looking for trouble (and a specific image), I dredged up the long-dormant Steve's Baseball Photography site and found a few images that provided more questions than answers.
This shot of a Dodgers' minor league prospect was ID'd as Steve Armstrong, for whom I find no listing in Baseball Reference or the Vault. The latter did contain a couple of images of Dodgers prospect Dick "Night Train" Armstrong (seen below), who is not the same guy. Hoping there's a Dodgers expert who can pin down the mystery man.

Looks to me like Kevin Armstrong, one time Mets prospect who closed out his career in the Dodgers system.

For the heck of it, I went through the minor league Armstrongs. Other than Dick and Kevin, the only other Dodger Armstrong I could find who fit the likely time span was Ivey Armstrong. I think Ivey's face is too fat (comparatively), but maybe someone else feels differently. An image of Ivey Armstrong attached.

The Armstrong with the Mets looks to be from a totally different era than the picture of the young man with the Dodgers

Randy Trapp

Randy Trapp was a 5 year professional in the New York Mets organization. He was drafted in the 24th round out of Eastern Illinois in 1973 and climbed the organizational ladder fairly quickly as he found himself with the AAA club at Tidewater during the 1975 season. He spent all of 1976 at AAA batting .234 with 11 HR in 385 at bats playing 3B and RF. He returned to AAA in 1977 batting .236 in 296 AB with 6 HR and was finished in pro baseball after the season.
