The St. Louis Cardinals have traded outfielder Riley Greene to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for three minor leaguers outfielders Deundre Jones and Jackson Rusiecki and second baseman Roylan Quevedo.
After having a solid season in 2028, hitting .240 with 17 home runs and 55 RBIs, Greene lost his starting job in the offseason and did not respond well.
In 40 games this season, 25 starts, the 27-year-old has hit just .143 with one home run and five RBIs.
The three players the Cardinals acquired are mostly prospects.
Jones, 24, has spent the 2028 season at AAA Worchester where he has hit .273 with five home runs and 24 RBIs.
Quevedo, 24, also was playing at Worchester and was hitting .257 with five home runs and 16 RBIs at the time of the trade.
The 24-year-old Rusiecki was at High-A Greensboro, where he has hit .273 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs.
Replacing Greene on the Cardinals roster will be outfielder Corbin Carroll.
Carroll, 27, was signed in the offseason to a minor-league contract.
He previously played in St. Louis during the 2025-27 seasons, starting off well before fading badly.
Carroll has played in 27 games at Memphis, hitting .380 with four home runs in 15 RBIs.

Naughton has pitched in 23 games for St. Louis going 1-1 with a save and a 4.50 ERA.
Heredia has already pitched in seven games for the Cardinals this season, going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA.
After being sent to Memphis, he has worked in five games going 1-0 with a 2.19 ERA.
